Canadian Moms & Moms to be!

And a third post, to be a post whore, did anyone ever have a wooden teething toy for a baby? I am looking for stuff on Etsy, for Elliot for Christmas. They have cool little wooden guitar teething rattles.

Similar to this. Not this expensive lol

Just to clear it up, I didn't say you SHOULDN'T HAVE kids if you don't have a lot of money, or can't care for them, but at the point where it's becoming a struggle to provide basic necessities, OR you must depend on someone else to essentially raise your children, you shouldn't have ANY MORE...but again, my opinion, and I don't feel like arguing it anymore today, lol.

Besides, 6' Wendy might stomp little 4' 11" me if I keep going

;)

Nah haha.

I'm not really passionate about this particular topic to keep arguing lol.

Reba, I am happy to see you back in here! I forget if I posted that earlier, but I wanted to!

That's an insane price for a baby rattle!! I've never heard of wooden teethers though. I'm not sure how safe it would be?

I actually change my mind on the Duggars because of Tasha's excellent points. Bring on baby #20 lol.

Wendy I drank wine while bfing without guilt. At first I bought these little test strips that tell you if there's too much alcohol in your breast milk, but after a while I realized that I either wasn't drinking very much or I was metabolizing it quickly and stopped worrying about it. Plus Andrew was sleeping pretty decent chunks of time by then and I knew he wouldn't be bfing for hours anyways. That said I think my SIL was pretty horrified when she saw me have a glass of wine when Andrew was 3 months old :haha:

most of my UK friends drnk wine while bfing... I dont see anything wrong with a glass a night.

Hi ladies!

I'm a horrible thread friend and can only poke my head in once in a while. Only read this page.

And Brandi, although, I agree that you have a right to your own opinion...I mean if you think about it...essentially...most Canadians have someone else raise their children...at least part-time. I will take Kate as an example because she's my real life bestie and I know she won't care.
She works full time...38-40hrs a week and Pete can sometimes work well over 60hrs a week...during this time they rely on Grandma B to raise the girls...does that mean that Kate shouldn't have had Alora because she knew eventually she would just "pawn" both of them off on Grandma?
Anyway, on one hand I understand where you're coming from...but on the other hand...besides the blanket training that you mentioned on FB...I can't see anything wrong with what they are doing. :hugs:

Anyway, HI!!! I miss you ladies!! I'm severly lacking social contact! :haha: I'm so busy...and starting to panick that I won't have enough stock for the craft shows. UGH!! lol! anyway, I'm still breathing...but probably will only be poping in once in a while for the next 3-4 weeks.

xo

I think I'll avoid getting into the Alcohol while Pregnant and/or Breastfeeding thing. I'm passionate about that, perhaps because of the field I was SUPPOSED to work in, but I don't have the energy tonight, lol.

You're right in that aspect, about most Canadians having someone else "raise" their children. The difference is that most people who use child care services don't use their teenage children to do the work...but, like I said, I'm so tired of it, lol.

I'm going to finish my Doritos and watch SVU.

There is plenty of science to back up safe levels of booze and BFing. Booze and pregnancy, not so much. I have no problem with wine and BFing. I just follow the guidelines and don't overdo it.

Wendy, the item had already sold, so I couldn't see it, but yes, I have a couple of wooden teethers, both made in Germany. One by Haba, one by Kathe Kruse, I think?

I'll try to find links for you:

and

Beware that site! :muaha: It charms the credit cards right out of your wallet! :)

But no safety issues whatsoever with wooden teethers. They are probably far safer than plastic teethers, chemically speaking! :)

Hello!

I have no opinion on the Duggars. I don't watch their show and only know a bit about them from snippets I see on the Internetz from time to time. I think the only thing I think about is that I'm glad that I don't have to worry about 20 different kids college/university tuition! :haha:

Glad Vickie and Sara had a good meet up! :happydance:

I never did, but granted I only BF for 3 weeks, but I had lots of friends who would drink a glass of wine or have Guinness while they were BF'ing. Their midwives suggested it to help with letdown.

Work was okay-ish. Glad to be home! :happydance:

Really? I'd be worried about pieces chipping off. I might look into teethers like that.

I have always been against drinking while pregnant, but while breastfeeding I don't see how its gonna get into Elliot really. Caffeine would be more dangerous, and I chug coffee. I drank while feeding him the other night. Queen of the ghetto here

ETA: Thanks Sarah! I def. want to get him one, just wasn't sure if he would use it! They are adorable. Also I hate plastic.

These ones are super cute!

Wooden teethers reminds me of Nathan's old-fashioned grandpa who was completely against soothers and told us to let Alia chew/suck on a wooden spoon instead

Brandi you should no better than to say something controversial and not expect a response from us!!! haha

Re: Drinking while BFing, as long as it's done within the guidelines it's perfectly safe. I have a chart and I can have one drink and it's completely out of my system after two hours (goes by weight). I think it's silly to make mommy's feel guilty about something like that when clearly it has zero affect on the baby. Visit Europe!! haha
I also agree with Wendy that caffeine is more detrimental to a BFing baby than alcohol. Just to really make people gasp, I've had a sip of beer or wine every once and awhile with both pregnancies....I'll just wait for someone to talk about FAS now haha.

Oops! Possible confusion about my chastisement of the last post: I meant about alcohol and pregnancy, not mocking wooden teethers!
Hey man, we're all Canadians here - if it's good enough for a beaver, it's good enough for my baby!
And your grandpa is 100% correct. A wooden spoon is an excellent alternative to the incredibly cute and clever wooden teethers on the market right now. (Wendy - those are crazy cute! :))

OH MY GOSH SARAH!!!!! :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
"If it's good enough for a beaver, it's good enough for my baby"

THAT right there my friends will go down in the history books!! It has to be a new slogan for Canada or something!

Thank you for that much needed laugh :hugs:

Sarah :haha:

OMG I'm pissing myself laughing right now because Alia is talking in her sleep and giggling. I can hear her going "boo!" and then laughing
