Canadian Moms & Moms to be!

Oh Em I am jealous! We have a wood burning stove, but it is just sitting in our living room. It's not hooked up yet! Kalevi's goal is to get it installed by September! I'm going to go CRAZY until then, because I know on those chilly summer nights it would really be nice to have a fire!

Do you have a fireplace or a stove?

We have a fireplace in the living room :) Its going to be a bitch tho once LeeAnne starts crawling! I cant believe how chilly it gets here in the evenings! Someone told me on a really hot day here it will still get chilly in the evenings!!

That's crazy Em! But you know, it's kind of a blessing. The cooler nights will make things comfortable. It gets hot and stays hot here, and we don't have A/C!

We have AC here and I know BJ will want it on during the day but I fear freezing LeeAnne because he likes it cold!!

How was everyones night? We just put LeeAnne to bed and are watching Here Come The Newlyweds! Love this show!!

Just trying to get Helena to sleep / reading a book on the couch.

She is whiney and her cheeks are red and keeps having explosive poo so hopefully a tooth comes out. I have no idea which one it is because she clamps her mouth shut and turns her head whenever I try and stick my hand in.

I want to kill our neighbour. He's playing his guitar as loud as possible! Our walls are vibrating..I seriously hate him! He has a nasty mohawk and smokes gross pot outside by our front door! He has a little girl that comes over on the weekends and we've had to call the cops before because we can hear him yelling and hitting her....LeeAnne keeps waking up because of his goddamn music! I HATE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jesus! I leave for less than 24 hours and you ladies have like 6 pages to go through! LOL!

How is everyone?

Not too shabby!

Nat I didn't mail those coupons because I figured I'd see you again! I think I'm going to need you to resend your address... I don't want them to expire before I can get them to you.

That goes for you as well Vickie! :hugs:

Our night was okay. Claire went to bed and P and I watched part of "A Night At The Roxbury". Love that movie!

*yawn* just got up from a nap with Hannah  Hubby actually goes into work on Tuesday  (only day of the week) but he wakes me up getting out of bed and I couldn't go back to sleep

looks like a boring day here but Hannah's in a great mood so that should help

Uggghh! I am feeling so crappy today but I'm at work :(

Hope you got Helena to sleep...but what is with all of this exploding poo? Emily mentioned something about it earlier. Why does that happen when they are teething? It sounds terrifyingly gross. I think I'll be handing baby over to my husband when that happens, since he seems to think we should be using cloth diapers. I really can't see how a cloth diaper will hold up against pressurized poo! YIKES!

Teething can cause some umm runny poos

I think Tyff uses cloth diapers though :)

I wanted to use cloth diapers but it was BJ that said noooooo way!! He thinks its gross to have to wash them or something????? Who knows!!!

It was Kalevi that brought it up...he hates the plastic kind cause he's the oldest of 9, and by the time it got to the last four or five kids his mom started using them, but they lived on the farm and are really messy, and were lazy about burning their garbage, and the dogs would drag the diapers all around the yard...ewwwwwwwww...
So I told him, if you want to use cloth diapers you have to do all the laundry!! And he said YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am going to HOLD HIM TO IT!
(think it'll work?) :D

BJ is the one that does the laundry  So I wasnt able to use that against him..so when he said NO because of washing them I just walked away lol

We use cloth and don't find it any more work than having to run out to buy diapers. We soak them overnight and then wash and dry them in the morning. DH usually does the wash but diaper wash is pretty much who ever is available at the time.

I use cloth diapers at home... If I know she hasnt had a poo yet I put disposables on and I use disposable if were going out. Im pretty lazy haha... I hate scrapping off poo from a cloth diaper, I always forget the disposable liners.

So finally got an appt for LeeAnne's 3 month checkup, a little late tho as shes 3 1/2months but oh well! Should be interesting to see how much the porker weighs :dohh: She's now taking anywhere from 6-7oz every 3 hrs! Seems a bit excessive, and 2 hrs after her bottle shes cranky and hungry already so the doctor wants to discuss starting pablum! I know NOTHING about it, when to give it, how often they should have it, morning or night..blah..why do they grow up so fast!

Good luck at your appointment Em! When is it?

Talking about pablum reminds me of when I was a kid (well, not so much a kid - probably 10 or 11) and my cousin and I would make pablum and eat it. Why didn't we just eat chips like normal kids?

Thanks for all the replies about the cloth diapers :) I hope, also, that I will be able to be tuned in enough to my bubs that I'll know when it's coming, and will just hold her/him at arm's length and let it rip into the bathtub or something :D

Her appt is at 3:30 Stiina! So we shall see what the dct has to say!
As if you guys ate pablum-it tastes so gross-did you add anything to it!?!??
LeeAnne just talked herself to sleep! She was in her swing talking and laughing away, I walked away for 2 secs to grab the phone and come back to her sleeping LOL She must have bored herself!

Hun, I was the exact same as you! I did NOT want cloth diapers AT ALL. I didn't want to have to rinse off the diapers (gross) and I figured they'd be smelly and yucky.

However, then I discovered the Bumgenius 3.0 cloth diaper, and I tells ya, I'm in LOVE. Not only are they freaking adorable, which clearly is important to me  but you'd be surprised at how well they actually work! When Claire was having a poop in her disposables, not only could we hear it, but we could smell it too. Pretty much every poop ended up as a blow out. Either up the back, up the front or through the legs.

To date, since we changed to the Bumgenius diapers we've had one, I repeat: ONE blow out. That happened because she hadn't pooped in a day and a half and she was normally a pretty regular gal. So it kinda makes sense, ya know? Anyways, you can hardly smell the poop and we buy the liners that go in the diaper so when she does poop, it's a matter of taking the liner and flushing it down the toilet. Hardly any gets on to the actual diaper part.

Here's the link to the Bumgenius website with the diapers that I use, and here is a link to show the type of liners I use. The liners are like a roll of tougher toilet paper, runs about $6 for a roll of 150.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me! I've yet to know anyone who's used the Bumgenius diapers and NOT like them.

Okaaaaaaaay, time to get out of Bumgenius spokesperson mentality!

Edit:

Just for price referenceing, we bought 24 diapers. They'll grow with Claire until it's time to potty train her. So inital investment is steep. We're looking at about $500 for the diapers. Yikes, right? Well, if you start using them early... once your baby is around 10lbs or so by the time your LO is around 6 months old they'll have paid for themselves. All we buy for Claire now are wipes, and the liners. We had friends who knew they wanted them so when they registered for their baby shower they put the diapers on the list.

24 diapers lasts us about 3 days or so. Then it's a wash and we're good to go for another 3 days. As much as I love them, I hate toting around dirty diapers. So if we are out for the day or are going away we use disposables. :)

Thanks Tyff :)
The cloth diapers I grew up in, and am picturing, are swatches from the fabric store, with baby diaper pins on each side. haha!

The page isn't loading, so I'm not sure if there's a picture for reference, but I've seen "g" diapers before, and I the bumgenius is along the same concept, except with g diapers you have to buy different sizes of "outer" diapers, and then packages of liners, and they are SO expensive! Around $18 for each outer diaper, and then almost 40 cents per liner. No thank you!

Thanks for the links :)
