They do have to stay rear facing until they are around 9months or 20lbs and able to sit unaided.
It's fine if his legs stick out abit. Aslong as his head isn't right at the top of the carseat it's fine.
If you do want more room though you can get a car seat that is rear facing then will go to forward facing when they need it. These are bigger than the carrier type carseat
You must leave him in it even though his feet are hanging over the edge. You only need a new seat if his head is sticking out of the top. His neck won't be strong enough yet to cope with a forward facing seat.
I'm just wondering how it's physically going to work though. Soon he'll have to constantly have his legs bent when he's in it..and he sure likes to kick and straighten his legs!
Ah well, suppose it's a good job we aren't going on any long car journeys...yet.
Thank you for everyone's advice! I wasn't going to do anything without asking at mothercare or halfords or anything. I know it's so important to have the right car seat for LO's development as well as size!
