Could you (or do you) manage without a car?!

I had a company car until it had to go back when Elliott was 2 months old. I now walk everywhere! Having to walk everywhere is the main thing that has helped me to lose all of my baby weight. The dog gets walked even more now and Elliott loves the fresh air.

Yes, I do get frustrated at times but I have some great friends who always offer a lift if we are going somewhere that I won't be able to get to very easily.

It has also stopped me spending so much money as a trip in to the city centre is a half an hour bus ride away and Elliott isn't so keen on shopping these days!

I am keeping fit, doing my bit in helping to cut down C02 emissions and saving me and OH money. A winner in everyway I think!

We don't have a car and we cope perfectly well.

There is a reason why we were born with legs :haha:

personally it would be impossible for my OH and i to not have cars for each of us. there is no bus service on our side of town, no safe sidewalks to walk to grocery stores on and this is not a pedestrian or bike friendly city at all.

same here. Where do you live?

We live in the countryside. The only bus route is a good 20 mins walk away. So nope unfortunately couldn't do without my car. If I lived somewhere more rural I could no problem, lots of my friends do. x

The city I live in has a useless public transport system. If I didn't have a car, I wouldn't be able to get to work. If I didn't work, I could probably cope without a car, although it would make life pretty boring, not being able to get out any further than the suburb we live in and maybe the surrounding ones if we wanted a long walk.

Thinking about it, this is what i would have to do just to get to work which is 6 miles away ....

20 minute walk fro my house to drop Brooke at nursery
20 minute walk from nursery to train station in opposite direction
x2 different trains to get to work
20 minute walk from train station to work

All for 6 miles, i dont think so

i think it really depends on your location..i have thought about it before but we need a car as my kids school is a few miles away an hrs walk in rain isnt appealing to me...my mum lives 7miles away all country lanes very hilly would kill me and my 4yr old could not walk that very in practical

Me and my OH don't drive but are learning after the year, I need to for travelling to uni next year. ATM we use buses everywhere, we pay £45 each for monthly bus passes xx

I don't have a car and manage fine. I pay £85 for a ten week bus pass that literally gets me everywhere in Glasgow. If I were to drive into town for work and uni (so every day) then I'd be about £100 a week just for parking not to mention petrol etc.

Now imagine all that during a rain storm :haha:

You could ride? I put my daughter on back lol.

I know cars are needed, its just about what can be done without cars and what cant. I know sometimes its not always possible but I see mums at the school and get annoyed when they call me skinny cow and moan about weight when I walk up the school and they drive lol x

I don't drive and I manage but we wouldn't manage if my hubby didn't drive. We gave it a go for 6 months and couldn't believe how much it cost us in public transport  We never use the car for short journeys though, that'd be ridiculous. I love walking with LO in the pram so it makes sense for me to go out to get the little bits and bobs that we need. So really the car is used for my husband to get to and from work (he works nights) and for big trips to the supermarket. I've seen my neighbour take the car to the top of the road to the shop dozens of times which is a five minute walk; it's silly :dohh: xx

Running a car is only slightly more expensive for us than public transport! It's so unreliable and expensive where I live.

In fact, it might cost us more to use buses to and from the train station, as the buses don't link up with the trains, so we would be waiting around for ages at the station, incurring extra fees with the childminder. Rubbish!

A five minute bus journey costs £3.00 here.

When I lived in London I did not have a car and did not need one whatsoever.

we don't own a car

we generally get around on public transport or walking. We do however rent a car once a month to do a big shop :D

 I thought it was extortionate that I paid £4.20 for a 50 min bus journey lol

Its £3.00 here to go 5 mins down the road too. I have a bus pass though which is worth it if you make lots of journeys x

The last time i went on a bus it was £1.20 for a 40 minute trip ... i would imagine nowadays its something like £4.40 at least

I share a car with my OH. We both had our own cars before, but decided to get an SUV.

I love my car, but I know lots of people who don't have cars and they are fine. I grew up all of my teenage years without a car. (My mom did not drive until recently)
