Errmm... hmmm...
You can always stitch the edges to prevent the fraying but that seems like ALOT of work!! Especially for someone who claims they can't sew.
What about finding some sort of backing -- like iron on tape binding/backing or something. Applying that to the ends as far as you intend to cut upward and then cut that. The backing may prevent the fraying. Not sure how easy it would be to string beads on that though....
Maybe someone else has a better idea!!!
