Hey Laides!
I'll be honest - i'm not going to read the entire thread because it'll just wind me up. At the moment, I'm a stay at home mum and OH works, but he only brings home an average wage (i.e. less than £30,000). I don't know how, but I'm almost certain we'll lose some money somewhere with the new government.
Anywhoo, my tip would be, if we do get the HIP grant (which I'm close to applying for now!), use it towards a birth-to-potty set of re-usable nappies. That's what i'm doing as they look great, can be washed at 30 degrees, and I put on a washload every day anyway. You can also buy re-usable baby wipes too I think, but I haven't decided on those yet.
Also, I'm planning on breastfeeding until at least 6 months. Not only will this cut the cost of expensive formula milk, but it's best for baby. And, while I'm feeding bubs myself, I won't be able to drink alcohol - That's around £5 per friday-night bottle of blossom hill saved! lol.
All in all, natural parenting really does save money and, IMO, is much better for bubs and the environment, too. I know that things like cotton nappies are expensive to start with, but it makes sense for people who might get the HIP grant and then have their weekly income cut.
Just an idea
