Dermoid Cyst

I love LA Ink! ha ha

My periods were regular, maybe a bit heavier. The reason I found out about the cyst was because after having my baby I bled for 6 weeks (instead of the usual 3 or 4), and they scanned me thinking maybe I had some retained placenta. They said to me the cysts can cause heavier / longer periods. (so i wouldn't be surprised if it also caused irregular)

Hope this all gets sorted for you soon.

Mines are totally irregular just now, its driving me insane. Do you get checked regularly for them reoccuring?? xx

I was told that you are actually born with a dermoid cyst (my doctor actually said that it is your twin that never develops properly thats why the cyst is full of hair, teeth etc, however my gynae consulant said this was just an old wives tale), and what happens is that sometimes it just very slowly grows until it becomes a problem. So I was told that once it was cut out, thats it, you can't get another one on that same ovary.

Sometimes, i think, you can have one of the other ovary, but they check this with all the scans etc while sorting out the cyst you have. So I have never had to be re-scanned or have any check ups. As far as I am aware, once that I have taken the cyst away, you have a couple of gynae appointments just to make sure you have healed properly, and that is it. Or it has been for me.

:flower:

My periods have always been regular too. Always been heavy, and that could have been becauses of this growing dermoid. - Usually have painful ovulation cramps on my right side every couple months, I also suspecting that in the past that could've been from the cyst.

I've been doing research, dermoid cysts are usually benign; there's a lot more solid material than liquid or something like that. They can't really know for sure until it's been removed and examined.

I think more and more I'm looking forward to getting this thing out, the constant pain is driving me crazy! I can't sit for very long at all (makes work suck).

Yea, I'm surprised and almost shocked that your Dr told you it was a twin that didn't develop... talk about outdated information! lol

It's odd i know, the doctor actually mentioned it again to me a few months ago, and I just smiled. (my doctor is so lovely I didn't want to say he was wrong) Like I said my gynae consultant said that it was an old wifes tale. I wonder why they do contain teeth and hair though??

hi girls ive got a dermoid cyst on my left ovary that they found in dec after I had a miscarriage. My cyst is 8cm and ive been told ill probably need the big operation, was never told I might need to wait 6 months to ttc again though

blossom ive been told they contain hair and teeth because the cells in the ovaries that make eggs are stem cells and have the ability to turn into any body part and instead of turning into an egg they go nuts and turn into other stuff. its pretty scary to think whats growning in there im not sure if I really want to know !

Mine told me to wait for six months just to let my body get back to normal iykwim...but I started trying as soon as I felt up to it tbh (2 weeks after op ). Although it did actually take a couple of months before it happened anyway and I think when I fell pregnant it was when my body was ready.

My periods are still every month now even though I only have my left side now, they were very messed up for a long time and then falling pregnant just after having my first, they never got chance to get back to normal, but they are regular now!

thats good i think i'd go mad if i had to wait another 6 months

im in quite a bit of pain but ive got another scan next week then i see the gynaecologist two weeks after that so hopefully it'll not be too long till they fix it and i can go and make myself a :baby:

afternoon ladies, sorry i've not posted was back in hospital, AF arrived on Sunday and on Monday the pains where back with a vengeance so i ended up being readmitted to the hospital. I just wish they would hurry up and get on with it to be honest x

Random - Sorry to hear your in such pain. I hope it all gets sorted for you soon. With me I had the option to either just have the op straight away, or wait a few months while having scans to see if it would shrink at all. Hopefully you will get this option too, and then you can just go for the op. x

:hugs: oh honey thats terrible!! :hugs:

Thanks ladies i'm going to push for the op, i can't be doing with waiting around especially if the pain keeps ending up with me in hospital x

I must admit, I felt like I got my life back after the op...although I did crap myself about the whole only having one ovary.

BUT....two years later I have one ovary, no problems (touch wood) and two gorgeous, healthy, beautiful kids!!

:hugs:

It didn't feel like that at the time though :flower:

Felt pretty shit tbh!

I can imagine it must be pretty scary to lose an oary, but yayy on having two beautiful kids, they are all that really matter.

I'm beginning to think i may have andometriosis and its not a cyst after all as i get flare up's when AF is here. A woman on my ward was admitted to have her laparoscopy for a dermoid cyst and when they went in they had to switch to a laparotomy as it was endo and they removed an ovary. I thought if they were telling me it was a dermoid thats what it must be, but this has changed my mind. xx

Randomxx - Sorry to hear you had to go the hospital again. That's not good! I hope they can take care of it soon.

I had a horrible week for pain too. ugh. it really sucked. I went back to the Dr. and he's going to try and speed up the meeting with the gynecologist (*crosses fingers*).
I'm almost looking forward to surgery, I feel like I would feel better, or more me?
