Dermoid Cyst

hi girls ive got a dermoid cyst on my left ovary that they found in dec after I had a miscarriage. My cyst is 8cm and ive been told ill probably need the big operation, was never told I might need to wait 6 months to ttc again though

blossom ive been told they contain hair and teeth because the cells in the ovaries that make eggs are stem cells and have the ability to turn into any body part and instead of turning into an egg they go nuts and turn into other stuff. its pretty scary to think whats growning in there im not sure if I really want to know !

8cm! that's pretty big. is it painful?

I am not looking forward to waiting several months after surgery to TTC. 6months? ah!
I don't even know when surgery might happen.

Randomxx - Sorry to hear you had to go the hospital again. That's not good! I hope they can take care of it soon.

I had a horrible week for pain too. ugh. it really sucked. I went back to the Dr. and he's going to try and speed up the meeting with the gynecologist (*crosses fingers*).
I'm almost looking forward to surgery, I feel like I would feel better, or more me?

After the surgery I felt like a huge weight had been lifted of my shoulders, and deffo felt better so totally understand what you mean. Hope you get a surgery date asap.

lu-is - yeah its pretty painful Ive always had painful periods and ovulation pains but now I think its been the cyst causing the pain all along

Ive got my scan today to see if its shrunk so FX

Hope you get to see the gynaecologist soon my wait is nearly over thank god

Oh no!!! Hasn't it grown a lot?
You're meeting with a Gynecologist in a couple weeks, right? Hopefully it's still small enough they can do laroscopic surgery.

The sonographer wouldn't tell me how big the cyst was said I'd need to wait to see the doctor to find out I also had a normal cyst on my right ovary that they thought was pregnancy related and would burst on its own but thats still there too so I don't know what they'll do with that one now

Yeah ive got the gynae in two weeks. lu-is ive joined your waiting to try for medical reasons post too xx

It's a shame you can't find out the size until you see the Dr.

I got some good news yesterday, I managed to get an earlier with appointment with the gynae! Feb 4th! Hooray! That is way better than leaving this until March 9th. That makes me happier.

Kaboom I got told I had a cyst on my left ovary while pregnant with my second. I crapped my pants actually but as the sonographer said would happen it had gone by my 20 weeks appointment

As far as I'm aware everything is fine and dandy now! Just got to wait to get my smear up to date

Was it just a functional cyst on your ovary? Those have a tendency to go away on their own.

Dermoid cysts can't just be absorbed by the body, as they tend to have a more solid make up then general ovarian cysts.

hiya i had a 15cm dermoid cyst on my right ovary 3 years ago i had it removed and also lost my ovary i had a laparotomy they opened me up and took it away, if you have any questions feel free to PM me xx

They did tell me the name of the cyst, but tbh as they said it was a typical one that would burst during pregnancy I didn't really take much notice.

But I don't think you forget the name of the cyst that takes your ovary or causes you the pain that comes with it

Thanks everybody! Today's the day!!! I am both excited and nervous.
I'm nervous that I'll just get refered to somebody else and not get any closer to fixing the problem. I can't wait until this afternoon... I'll keep you posted!

It's a good thing it's today too, I woke up in really bad pain this morning. I don't know if it's related but I've got some cramps running across my entire belly at about belly button height. (or maybe I'm hungry I'll pretend it's that for now).

update on me i had my appointment with the surgeon/consultant and i should have the op either the end of this month or beginning of next.

Hi Ladies, thanks for the wishes!

The appointment went very well! She seems fantastic, and she's going to put a request in for keyhole/laroscopic and I'll be going for surgery as soon as they can get me a date!
Yay! That's exactly what I was hoping for, no waiting and watching.

She seemed optimistc that I wouldn't have to wait too long for a date.
