i actually hate my body, much to the point where i want to cry (doesnt help i've always had body issues n stuff before)

sooo question is:

can you diet pretty much straight after giving birth (a week or so after)
i cant think of the reasons why not too?
it wouldnt be a fad diet more like a detox! and im not breastfeeding so wouldnt have to worry about milk supplies etc?

any reasons u can think of why not to? thanks

if you're not breastfeeding then i wouldn't see why not.

i'm planning to breastfeed and i hear that it's a great way to lose weight.. to each their own though!

see how you feel - i can imagine our eating habits will change a lot with the amount of changes in our sleep patterns, etc. you could find yourself dieting without realising.

xx

Hey there, I breastfed and dieted immediately after having DS, I put on over 3 stone and was 13stone when I went into hospital. When I say I dieted I mean I ate really healthily, I made sure I got all my nutrients (after about 3 days of being unable to eat as the morphine didnt sit well with me and i vomited constantly) I just cut out everything that was naughty and the weight literally dropped off me... bear in mind I lost a huge 19lb just giving birth!!! Its amazing how quickly it goes.

If you are bottle feeding then I cant see any reason not to diet as long as you are eating things to give you energy cos you will be exhausted for a few weeks xx

I start healthy eating straight away and make sure i have staple healthy stuff in with both my ds' and then started dieting a week later.

Losing weight is a top priority after giving birth for me

Im going to try breastfeeding but I still plan to diet - well, eat really healthily as soon as LO is born and cut out ALL junk food, treats and try not to eat too many carbs in the evening. I will make sure I get all the nutrients I need and take vitamins etc but I HATE being big and I know that if I stay big it will affect my mood and make me feel down about myself and unhappy.... Hopefully breast feeding will help me lose weight too! :)

Thanks for the advice, i've heard BF is good for losing weight but i've heard you have to consume alot of calories? (thats not the reason i've chosen not to BF just to clarify) is that tru?

Hi there. I think if you are doing healthy eating then fine. I had to join weight watchers because I was HUGE but didn't do it until a year after having baby. I am sure Weight Watchers say to wait until 6 weeks after having the baby and you have had your 6 week check up.

Breast feeding seemingly shrinks the uterus quicker x

Hi

Didnt want to read and run. How much weight have you put on since your preg? I've put on loads I plan to go on a diet after bubs as im not BF either but I will be hvaing a healty intake mY OH has prepared a diet plan for me/:

Breakfast:
1 Slice wholemeal toast no butter with a teaspoon of jam, a banana and a cup of green tea

or

I small bowl of cornflakes with skimmed milk (no sugar), an apple and green tea

or

Egg whites scrambled with a bit of skimmed milk , pepper and or salt, A smal glass of OJ

Lunch:
Salad PLate( 2 slices of ham, 1 tomato chopped, half cucumber chopped, 1 small red pepper chopped, 1 table spoon of low fat coleslaw

or

Brown pitta bread with grilled chicken breast with teaspoon of mayo and lettuuce & apple

or with any of these a packet of unsalted popcorn

Dinner:
Grilled chicken breast with Broccolli and 3 small baby potatoes
or
Cod with Cauliflower and 3 small baby potaotes
or
2 small handfulls of pasta with chopped tomatoes, basil and grilled chicken breast..

Snacks:
Fruit, Nuts(almonds), 1 small pot of activia yoghurt.

Sorry its so long my OH did this for me before I got pregnant and I lost 2 stone with regurlar exerices in 3 months. THe good thing about this is it allowed me to have a small(very small) takeaway on a Saturday night as a "reward" and it made it so easy.

Tip also is if you are sick of plain chicken breast get a little olive oil crush a stock cube in it and rub on chicken then grill its deliscious..

Im not breast feeding either I couldn't with my other two. Iam hoping that after LO is born and allowing time to heal & be exhausted that eating sensibly and gentle exercise should help me drop the extra pounds. Im looking forward to going on nice long walks with LO in her pram ipod pounding x

thanks for this. my plan was to eat hardly any carbs. works best for me :)

well i dont actually know how much exactly but about 3 stone.

i've always been around8stoneish and would like to get back to that, however i had gone through alot before falling PG and was around 10stone so now am around 13stone (UGH) :( so i'd like to lose 5 stone probably, which i will aim at losing in around 6months, i know thats fast but its very likely as i do drop weight quickly when i try :)

Id also say dont put too much pressure on yourself at first.

It can be a very hard time, my first had colic and reflux and we were both knackered. Thinking about food was the last thing on my mind and we did have treats to help us. I think I would have found it too much to really watching what I was eating at that stage.

This one is due in November so Im not going to even think of any sort of diet until after Christmas and New Year. :haha:

I'm going to diet, cos I'm a big fat moose right now!!! I lost 4 stone before getting pregnant, and I was so happy with how well I'd done and was planning on losing another 2. I know I can lose weight, so I'm not getting too wound up about it, but will be getting back to eating healthily really quickly after baby is born. I plan to breast feed and going by my friend is really does get you back to your pre pregnancy weight...ok I dont expect miracles, but if breast feeding helps then thats a bonus!

you need more calories but i don't think this is something you are conscious of - you may just find you are more hungry. have a read about it - it's certainly the best way to aid weightloss though - apparently you can burn 600 calories a day from breastfeeding alone! x

Shame you are going to give BF a try. you dont have to diet, your weight drops off.

To those who are planning on dieting and BFing, it will affect your milk supply. Mine was very sensitive to how much i ate.
