Differences: US vs UK

18 :)! or 17 and a half.. I reckon its about 65% of people do have one.. maybe more like 75% actually.

I went to my aunts in missouri in 98 and asked for a bag of chips...i got crisps :lol:

Oh right! Chips is crips for you....so to you chips is..fries, right? Sometimes restaraunts here have a special for "fish and chips", which is fish and french fries, but that's the only time I hear them referred to that way!

Over here it's easier to not drive I think.

yeah I was going to say, the island is ALOT smaller. Its not a NEED to drive, you can pretty much get anywhere without the need for a car :)

The sweet 16's on MTV baffle me lol plz tell me they are not ALL like that! x

Oh, and we totally know that our chocolate is far less superior than anywhere in Europe! haha. People get excited when they receive German chocolate and Swiss chocolate, etc. I think people tend to spend a lot of money to get those. Beer is another thing that Americans like imported. German beers are probably the biggest. And Heinekin from Holland. I like Canadian beer myself. Though some people prefer the domestic beers we have here because they are lighter.

OMG no definitely not. Those are spoiled rich girls that act like complete spoiled brats. :lol:

I never had a 'sweet 16'. I just turned 16 and my dad gave me a car and I got my license and that was that.

Yeah we have to be able to drive pretty much here. Everything is so spread out. I grew up out in the country and the nearest town was 10 miles away so not like we could just walk into town real quick to get groceries. :lol:

I've lived here my whole life and I have NEVER understood the sweet 16 thing. What you see on tv, on those sweet 16 shows, is just a bunch of trashy reality tv. No one here really acts like that, unless they are seriously, obnoxiously rich/spoiled/stuck up/etc.

eeek. I dont drive (need to pass test) I cycle most places, I live in a national park but its small compared to most haha.

I love different cultures :)

To be fair I think that is why a lot of americans are overweight because we just drive everywhere. :lol: I've only, just in the past year, started getting in the habit of walking to the store but I live in the city now so it's easier to do.

I';m from Canada, so the USA is different than us too, like we have alot of the same chocolate as the UK, and not all the ones in the USA. We also have things like poutine here. Hockey is big here, football seems big in the USA, and in the UK, I am not sure..soccer I guess, which I think is called 'football' but isn't the same as the USA football. The USA has to pay for everything whereas Canada has health care like the UK (althoug IVF ect is not covered here, except Quebec). I live in British Columbia, and we are very british influenced here, espesially on the island here...but, we also have alot of Irish influence etc too, and French. There is many french-Canadians where I live, and alot of french speaking families. We use metric, like the UK and the Americans confuse me with their temperature etc. lol We call soda pop, just pop here, and chips are french fries...but we call it both. More people tend to breastfeed in Canada than in both the USA and UK....I think, or so it seems. We are ruled by the Queen here, but for some reason, we call her the 'Queen of England' even though she is the Queen of Canada, and we have a prime minister, not a 'president' like the states. It seems the president in the states is almost worshipped in the USA, but in Canada, that is not how it is at all. Those are just some of my observations.

^^ I call soda 'pop' too!! It's a midwest thing here in the US to call it pop. Southerners and the west coast seem to use 'soda'.

It seems like the UK girls are obsessed with chocolate. I can't even remember the last time I ate chocolate. :shrug:

We make a big deal because thats used to be the legal age to drink, to get married with out your parents consent ect so its more tradition.

Our chocolate is wayyyy better than your chocolate, your chocolate tastes like brown wax so that might be why were all chocoholics.

I'm pretty close to Canada- in Michigan. It's a 4 hour drive to hop over & I've been there quite a few times. Everyone in Michigan calls it pop, as do a lot of other states on this side of the US. The western side calls it soda & the southern areas call it soda pop. Weirdly enough, I call it soda because my ex is from California and he "trained" me to call it soda. haha. Hocky is big here too, my son is obsessed with the Red Wings! Football is the most popular sport, I think though.

I completely forgot about the metric thing! So weird that we do it different from the rest of the world!

I wouldn't say worship the president, but our politics are different. Our president (and a select other group of people) make the laws and decide a lot of things for our country. As I understand it, your Queen doesn't do the same kind of law and policy making for a lot of things like our president does. Politics around the world are quite interesting.

For the girls in Cali/usa.... have you had tri tip?? Oh my, I looooove me some tri tip! My DH is from California and introduced me to it, yummmy!! It's only really used in Cali as well, correct me if I'm wrong :)
For the UK gals, it's a certain cut from the cow that we don't use/eat over here.

I've never heard of tri tip. But I'm not from California. I'm originally from northern Ohio. I've just lived here for a year. :lol:

As for chocolate. If I buy it, it's usually like ferrero rochets or something like that. Which aren't 'american' but still super popular here. And I love good ol' snickers bars but I don't think I've actually eaten candy like that since Halloween now that I'm really thinking about it.

Its weird cos you say the 4th of July don't you? Youd think you'd say July the 4th since you write it like that.

Ha, I think you've managed to find the only date that we say like that! Every other day of the year is January 22nd, April 8th, etc.

:shock: noooooo lol not french fries!!! fish and chips is battered white fish (cod, haddock, pollock etc) with big fat chips, not mechanically reformed and not those thin nasty maccy d style things. and if you have any taste mushy peas too :D

crisps= american chips
chips= chunky fried potato chips
fries= french fries.

:thumbup:

americans have marshmallow fluff :cloud9: sooooo nice, hersheys syrup, IHOP :cloud9: root beer :happydance: and taco bell

mmmm
