Differences: US vs UK

somethings are even different from ireland and uk, from family experience.

uk family say kitchen cupboards and we say kitchen presses.

i found US chocolate too bland even mars bars etc. my niece, 20, is heading off to ocean city for the summer and is rightly annoyed at not been able to go to a bar.

CLECKNER04: i luvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv fererro rocher yummmmmmmm

When i went to florida i know that Beef Jerky was really popular :sick::lol:

And i loved the all you can eat places!!!

Also we say we're going to the toilet but americans call it a lavatory/restroom.

Theres loaaads of differences!! x

I went to my aunts in missouri in 98 and asked for a bag of chips...i got crisps :lol:

Oh right! Chips is crips for you....so to you chips is..fries, right? Sometimes restaraunts here have a special for "fish and chips", which is fish and french fries, but that's the only time I hear them referred to that way!

:shock: noooooo lol not french fries!!! fish and chips is battered white fish (cod, haddock, pollock etc) with big fat chips, not mechanically reformed and not those thin nasty maccy d style things. and if you have any taste mushy peas too :D

crisps= american chips
chips= chunky fried potato chips
fries= french fries.

:thumbup:

americans have marshmallow fluff :cloud9: sooooo nice, hersheys syrup, IHOP :cloud9: root beer :happydance: and taco bell

mmmm

Fast food;
we have macdonalds (ours is half the size of yours and ALWAYS cold) pret a manger (sandwich bar) costa (starbucks type) greggs (pasties, cakes, sausage rolls) burger king, subway... none of ours is as good as yours.

do you have sausage roll? (sausagemeat in pastry)

your fizzy drinks come in bigger cans and bottles than ours too.

It may just be my own experience but I noticed that pretty much everything is supersized in the US compared to UK... anyone else find that?

i hear alot of ads and ppl talking about Gregs. is the food nice? i know its a shop and not a restaurant

Yeah Greggs is like a bakery/takeaway place. It's pretty good if you're out and about and need something cheap and cheerful :) They do sandwiches, pasties, pies, baguette pizza slice, plus cakes, doughnuts, etc as well as cans/bottles of drinks and some do coffees. They also do loaves of bread, and rolls for using at home but I've never bought them as I bake my own :)
They don't have anything healthy or anything but if you are out and hungry it's cheap! :rofl:

....................... drools lol. i must start making my own bread, promised myself i would do it months ago.

Mmmm... I only do it in the bread machine these days. So easy lol

Pizza dough is brill in it too :)

I have to drive everywhere because I'm in the middle of no where lol.
In US they have bacon with dessert, seems very strange to me
The UK doesn't have many variations of things like pop tarts we only have two flavours.
Flip flops are called thongs?? or something like that. That confused the hell out of me when I heard it on friends :haha:
What's the big deal with cookie dough? I bought some when I was in America because I had heard so much about it and it really isn't very nice.
I'm starving btw hence mentioning so much food :lol:

I'm American and I have never ever heard of bacon with dessert!!??

And we say flip-flops, not thongs. Thong=little underwear :haha:

Don't base your thoughts on America from TV, plleeeeesee....:wacko::wacko: It's sooo misleading.

^^ I call soda 'pop' too!! It's a midwest thing here in the US to call it pop. Southerners and the west coast seem to use 'soda'.

It seems like the UK girls are obsessed with chocolate. I can't even remember the last time I ate chocolate. :shrug:

No! In the South we call it Coke. No matter which one. :haha:
"You want a coke?"
"Sure."
"Which one?"
"I'll have a Dr. Pepper."

I've never heard anyone say soda pop. The only other thing I see is on restaurant menus, they're called "soft drinks".

Also, American chocolate is no good. It's like brown wax, like another poster said. British chocolate is sooooo creamy and sweet and yummy! You should try to find some Cadbury's dairy milk. Do you have a World Market near where you live? They carry foods from all over, imported.

When I was in America and went out for dinner they would always ask if I wanted a side of bacon. :shrug:

Tbh it may have been breakfast, it was like 4 years ago I just know whatever I was eating was sweet and it seemed very strange to have bacon with it :haha:

Yeh wetting the babys head is basically celebrating a birth by getting pissed :rofl:

Oh ok, you must have been having breakfast. If it was sweet it would have been pancakes or waffles?

We do love us some bacon here ....but I have never had it as a dessert.

I guess I wouldn't do so great in the UK because I HATE mayo and I also am not a huge fan of chocolate either. I don't get the obsession with it.. maybe I just haven't have the good stuff yet?

Yeah it probably was something like that so all my posts are pretty pointless :haha::blush:

I hate mayo and chocolate I can take it or leave it although it is really nice here.
