Do you think it would be worth me going on the pill for a month?

I'm now on to cycle 11 after my miscarriage. I had a blood test on Monday to check for ovulation (CD21 blood test) and my husband has had a SA - haven't got results yet. I'm wondering if my luteal phase is a problem. I generally start spotting at 11dpo, but usually notice a tiny bit of orangey CM at 10dpo but that's so minor I wouldn't notice if I'm not wearing white underwear (sorry tmi!). Anyway, I was wondering, if I start taking the pill from the end of my period, if it might help. I know it takes about 2 weeks for the pill to get into your system so I think I would be likely to still ovulate as I usually ov on CD13 or 14 (although this month was CD16) and then be in with a chance of falling pregnant. And then this would maybe help my LP as I would be on the pill and my period wouldn't start until I stop taking it (in theory anyway!). I could ask my doctor what she thinks but I'm pretty sure she would say no as I know doctors don't like women to fall pregnant while on the pill or even in fact the next few months after. And I also know it can stop people from ov'ing for a while. But my reason for thinking this is I fell pregnant on my 3rd cycle after coming off the pill. If I'd know anything about fertility when we started trying, I reckon it could very well have happened on the first month, but as it was back then, I didn't even know what ovulation was (god knows where I was during the sex education lessons we had at school!!). Anyway, just wondering what you think?

I would think if you took the pill at the at the end of your period you may mess yourself up badly as your supposed to take it on cd1 .

hey susan, personally i wouldn't. As it is your cycles are regular and a 10-11 day LP really isn't something to worry about.

I fear you could make a bad situation worse:hugs: Wait and see how the results come back and what the GP does next.

good luckx

I wouldnt either. Sit tight for the cd 21 blood and SA. If you have a short LP the gp may put you on clomid.

I think to start messing with the pill which could take 6mths+ to get out of your system is in some ways defeating the purpose. You wouldnt want to conceive with it in your system anyway, even if you caught the next ov.

The cd21 shouldnt be long and see what the GP says. Good luck. XXX

Well when I was on the pill before, I never took it from CD1, I took it from when my period finishes which is what I was told to. I remember when I first went on it, the woman told me that I should start taking it from when my period finishes but I wouldn't be covered for that month. I've never taken the pill from CD1 before.

Oh well thanks girls. I won't do it. I'll speak to my doctor about it though. I know when I came off it when I started TTC, I ovulated that cycle and have done ever since (except when I was pregnant of course). But you're right, it might mess things up. I do remember having a break from it once before and I didn't get my period for six weeks. I think you're right so I won't do it. It's only cos I saw a pack left over in my suitcase a while back and it crossed my mind.

I'll see what the doctor says. Thanks girls. I needed someone to tell me one way or the other as I'm been ummming and arhhing over this for a while now x

For the first cycle, Susan, it always recommended you start the pill on CD1, albeit it can be taken anywhere up to CD5 and, yes, then you will be protected for that cycle, but from then on you take it for 21 days, then stop for 7 days during which time you will bleed. Don't forget you don't have a period on the pill, you have a withdrawl bleed so the balance of hormones is different. but the recommended time is CD1.

I personally wouldn't consider taking the pill again. I really believe the thought of being more fertile after the pill is just urban myth. There's never been any studies and yes, of course some people will catch quicker than others....and they are probably the ones that put the stories out there!

I know so many girls that the pill has mucked up their cycle for months on end, and although it didn't last time, it'd be sods law that it would this time!

Why not invest your time at the mo, whilst you are waiting for your results, into getting into one of the good books on the subject. Taking Charge of your Fertility by Toni Weschler is a good read, and that could help you really focus on areas that could make a difference.

They put me on Clomid and Progesterone for a short luteal phase. Has your DR suggested those at all? If not, I would ask.

Thanks Lyns, I read that book actually after someone on here recommended. It was quite useful but, after coming on here for so long now, I felt like I knew most of it.

No, doctor hasn't considered putting me on anything for the short luteal phase. All she said was that I should keep taking vit b complex, but I am having a month's break from taking anything just to see if it will make any difference, although I'm sure it won't.

I don't think the doctors would take my luteal phase a problem as it is 10 days minimum, although I did have one month when it was 8 days - well I started spotting at 8dpo through to 13dpo when AF arrived.

I'm not going to go back on the pill just in case because it will be sods law and mess me up even more. Doctor has referred me to the hospital for further testing as she isn't concerned about DH's sperm test results (18 million - although he does smoke and likes a drink but we've kind of stopped the smoking, seem to just be having a few on the weekends and we've cut down dramatically on the alcohol - and he has 31% mobility - doctor said they looked for 50% but she said 31% shouldn't be a problem). I've got him on vits though, macca, zinc and wellman although the doctor thinks that that is the placebo effect, because you think it's working it does. Who knows, but he's happy to take it so hopefully it'll make a difference and if I'm not pregnant this month, then his sperm should have improved by the time we start trying again after a 2 month break. Fingers crossed x
