I'm 35 & have been ttc for over a year now. I am now on cycle day 65. My previous cycle was 95 days and the one before was 99 days. They have been. All over the place since I stopped taking the pill back in May 2015. Because I'm already a mum every dr I've seen had basically told me there's not a lot they can do for me, so has suggested I go back on the pill for 6 months to try & reset my body. I don't think I have ovulated at all since first coming of the pill a year ago. How could the pill possibly help? Has anyone had any experience with this? I've lost all hope of falling pregnant & exhausted by the disappointment. I really don't want to go back on the pill at all, let alone for 6 months, it's such a long time. All scans have come back clear and bloods have shown my progesterone levels are a little low. I don't know what to do. Whether to go back on the pill or hold off in the hope my body will sort itself out. How can it just stop producing eggs. I don't understand. I know there are people a lot worse of then me and I AM grateful for my daughters but it's still so hard when I so desperately want a baby  Thank you in advance for any advice you may have and baby dust to all

Id have thought they'd be trying you on clomid. I understand the pill can regulate cycles, but seems a bit backwards when the problems you're encountering have started since stopping the pill.
Id also recommend looking into Soy Isoflavones- otherwise known as natures Clomid. It worked wonders for me x

Hi, sorry you're going through this, is your doctor a GP or a fertility specialist? I'm surprised that a fertility specialist is suggesting this and not something to help you ovulate if you are not ovulating.

It does sound odd, not something I have come across to be honest so I can understand why you're confused :hugs:

It does seem a bit counterproductive to go back on the pill when you just came off it and while 35 is not that old (I had a baby at 35 and will have another at 37) its old enough that you don't really want to try something that will stop you from getting pregnant for 6 months and might not help anyway. I'm not an expert but I would have thought clomid was a better thing to try. Maybe try another doctor? I have heard good things about Soy Isoflavones too.

Why can't they do anything for you because you are already a mom? I'm not sure how thing work in the UK but can you get a second opinion? I would not be happy with that plan if I were in your shoes. My old OBGYN suggested i go back on BCP for three months to regulate my cycles. I was not comfortable with that idea and did not do it.

Have you considered going private? Obviously something like IVF can get quite expensive but it might not be too expensive just to try stimulating ov with drugs.

I have heard that being on the pill will only make you regular while you are on it...so when you go off you will likely go right back to your long irregular cycles. I wouldn't recommend it!

I agree with PP's that medication to help you ovulate like clomid or femara might be something to try. If that's not an option or you want to go the natural route, I've heard good things about fertility acupuncture or Vitex for balancing hormones.

Good luck!

Thank u all for your comments. It's only my gp I've seen. I don't think they are willing to refer me to fertility specialist as I'm already a mum. Today will be my third day of taking the pill. Out of curiosity (and because I can't help myself :dohh:) I did an ovulation test today and it's positive. So have now just confused myself completely. Whether it's positive because of the pill or if I am actually ovulating. It's the first positive through this cycle (now on cycle day 67) that I've had. Don't know whether to carry on with the pill or not. Was only going to do one pack. I'm not willing to do 6 months. I have attached my ovulation test

It's definitely pisituve but can't give any advice if it's the pill or not, Id have thought not, but I'm no expert!

Also shouldn't matter that you already have a child, it'd be different if we were talking ivf, but I have several friends that have seen a fertility specialist and had clomid etc for subsequent babies x

High LH can be a sign of PCOS...no idea if it would still be high if you are on the pill. It can also be a sign of ovarian failure but I would doubt that at your age!

Maybe you can get a referral to a gynaecologist to address your irregular cycles. Good luck!

Thats an obvious lh surge but I have no idea if it means impending ovulation. This is really confusing! I think you should ask to see a specialist, it can't hurt to ask.

Hey! I'm also 35 and TTC my second, I found it a struggle to get anywhere with my GP who just kept telling me to keep trying for "another few months" eventually I asked to see another GP who referred me to the assisted conception unit straight away and couldn't understand why I hadn't been referred earlier. I think it depends on your healthcare trust what they provide in the way of treatment for couples who already have children. I can have 3 rounds of Clomid (I have PCOS) then I'll need an HSG if no success and I can then have another 3 rounds of Clomid providing the HSG doesn't show up any blockages. Any further treatment would need to be paid for because we already have our son. Can you ask to see another GP? Do keep trying.

Oh and my GP kept telling me that all my scans and blood tests were "normal" and some couples just take longer than others etc etc etc. I was convinced when I walked into that assisted conception clinic after 2 years of TTC that they'd tell me I'd had early menopause and that I had no chance of having any more children. But when I did have my appointment he told me I had PCOS and here's a prescription and don't worry we will try several things to help you. I was so relieved I just sat and cried! I asked him why my GP didn't tell me this as I has suspected I had PCOS and had asked her on several occasions if I had it and she said no and he said that GP's just don't have the specialist knowledge that the clinics do and that a GP's definition of "normal" is very broad!
