drinking in pregnancy

Well my mum said the odd sip would be fine so when i went to try a tiny quarter glass of cider, i was about 4 inches away from drinking it and the smell is sooooo strong rly put me off, tried a sip of ohs since then and it was horrible tasted so strong like it was absinthe or something and this was just cider, when i used to absolutely love cider, so no haven't drunk in whole pregnancy apart from the sip can't stomach even the smell i think its the bodies defense to protect baby. I've been wondering if it will ever go will be a no go zone for me. xxx

I go to the local pub about once a fortnight to pick DH up on my way home from work, and have half a guinness while I'm there.

I've also had 2 small glasses of red wine (seperate occassions), and they were like nectar. I lurve my red wine. We're going to lunch at a family members house tomorrow and I'm taking a bottle of red and will be having a glass with my food.

I see nothing wrong with the odd glass of wine, and considering I've got to go over Xmas and New Year, I'll be having the odd one then as well.

Honestly, I don't see the point of freaking out about having a couple of beers or glasses of red during the first two trimesters.

Alcohol is never "good" for a pregnancy, like caffeine and refined sugars aren't good for nourishing the baby (I'm sure there's not a lady here who can't own up to having an unhealthy sweet this week, but of course she knows to balance it out with proper food and a quality prenatal vitamin). However, the studies on low fetal weight and other conditions linked to alcohol during pregnancy have only been based on terribly ignorant or extremely negligent women who've drunk like non-pregnant people.

well i agree with most of your comments there!! although i havnt had a drink since i have been pregnant i dont see a problem with having a glass of wine every now and then!! i think i will also raise a glass myself at xmas and new years eve xx mmmmmmmmmm or MALIBU yum yum xxx

I hadn't drank anything during pregnancy atall untill tonite, I treated myself to half a glass of wine! Was hardly worth having lol

lol i bet it was though!!! bet you throughly enjoyed it and savoured every last bit lol xx

it was on the news a few week back ( i think ) that having a glass of wine here and there during pregnancy could be good for the baby the "research" they did showed that while drinking if u had a girl she would be less likley to be depressed and showed in boys they would be able to consentrate more and be more likley to do better in school. i dont drink anyway so it doesnt bother me

drunk a day after i found out that i was pregnant.... but that was because i wasnt sure wot i was gonna do as baby was not planned... nevertheless i now worry because apparently it only takes one medium glass of wine for the unborn child to be affected by FAS( faetal alchol sydrome)... nd this cannot be detected by scan or tests... can only find out after the baby is born.... it affects the baby for a lifetime.

I haven't had a drink at all, and I don't intend to throughout the rest of my pregnancy and while I'm breastfeeding.

There are so many conflicting studies and theories it's hard to decide what to do! My midwife told me about the news that some alcohol during pregnancy may be ok, even beneficial, then she told me that it's different for everyone, and in some people even one drink can result in fetal alcohol syndrome.

I'd rather not risk it, so I won't be touching a drop. I couldn't live with myself if something were to be wrong with my baby because I'd had a drink.

I haven't had any myself since I found out I was pregnant. I haven't actually fancied it and I LOVE MY WINE! Don't personally think the odd glass here and there will do any harm despite the conflicting information. I spend a lot of time in France and Spain and pregnant women have been having a glass of wine with their daily meal for years their children are fine. I will probably be having a nice glass of wine at christmas and new year if I can stomach it. I think we can take things too seriously sometimes once in a while is ok otherwise we would never eat or drink anything would we!!! Don't actually believe everything I read or hear everything in moderation and you can't go wrong.

I havent touched a drop.
Although i was tempted to have a glass of red at my Granmas funeral i didnt.
I cant see the point in having one now, ive gone this far its only 40 weeks out of my life.

I thinnk its personal preferance.
I wouldnt cos its only 40 weeks, i can do without...but there is so much conflicting informaton out there i can see why people do and dont

i may have a glass with my xmas dinner and new years but then again last year they brought horrible wine so if they do that again i wont be lol

I just thought it best not to drink anything alcoholic at all. Haven't had a drink since July 17th anyway, and that was a work night out. I am not a big drinker though! xx

when I first found out I was pregnant I didn't touch a drop of alcohol, but after the sickness was over I had a double bacardi, and I really enjoyed it, I felt very relaxed after. I don't think an occasional drink will hurt the baby, as long as you don't get to the point of being drunk, just one glass occasionally, I reakon helps pregnancy along, I intend having 1 bacardi christmas eve, christmas day and new years day. I have been looking into mulled wines, anyone know if there is any alcohol in that stuff?

I have not had any since TTC which was the month I conceived and I will not have a drop until after baby is born at least. Canada does not support any amount during pregnancy as well. I think it is because they have no idea if one drink can cause issues or if 10 can and that is the part that scares me.

I found out i was pregnant at 8 and half weeks, and i had been on a group holiday to malia at the beginning and got smashed every night, then had my 22nd bday and got smashed so i had drank alot Which i was worried about, bt was told it should be ok, havent drank since finding out i was pregnant...
Although i went out and my friends got me a glass of wine but i literally had couple of sips and that was it, couldnt manage anymore.

I havent drank any since a month before I got pregnant as we were ttc .

Of course it does, it's red wine! Some of the alcohol content does evaporate off in the heating process though.

I'm not much of a drinker, I don't drink wine or beer at all and the only alcohol I like is Archers. I haven't had a drink since we started TTC as I don't want to go near spirits. I think, despite the recent research, it's probably safest to steer clear just in case. Just my personal opinion.

Ive had half a shandy but dont really miss drinking at all.
