drinking in pregnancy

I have drunk during pregnancy, but i think you just have to be sensible if you stopped doing every single thing that might possibly harm the baby you'd be wrapped up in cotton wool and bubble wrap in a sealed container.

If you go out and get totally blotto then you are asking for trouble, I will have maybe one or two drinks a week, or i will have a shandy with a meal.
I have one healtly happy boy already and havent changed anything for this pregnancy.

I'll admit to the odd glass of wine. i had nothing for the first 12 weeks and was really good with the don't eat this list. I have gradually become more relaxed, for my birthday dinner I had scallops, crayfish, prawns, cheesecake and a glass of wine! I'm certainly not going over board but I do believe that everything is ok in moderation.

I'm almost 21 weeks and would guess at having had a total of about 6 glasses of wine. had my scan yesterday and baby is healthy so thats the important thing.

That's great, but there are limits on what can be picked up at the anomaly scan. I'm sure everything really is fine though.

I'm also sure that 6 glasses of wine and one seafood rissotto in 21 weeks is not going to do any harm whatsoever. My mums craving with me was blue cheese, 30 years later thats also on the do not eat list.

In my opinion, common sense rules over any list out there. Getting drunk as a skunk even just once during pregnancy is never going to be wise but a glass here and there I don't see any harm in.

I'm not a big drinker at all (at least not since I met hubby and stopped having to go out on the pull with my beer goggles on...) and think in total I have had 2 half glasses of white wine and one glass of very diluted Pimms. I'm definitely of the opinion that a tiny bit here and there is not going to hurt, but at the same time I fully appreciate that some people would prefer not to take a chance at all.

I totally agree, I just thought it was wise to point out that the scans have their limits.

I'm with you, we are all fully grown adults capable of making sensible decisions (hopefully!) I have certainly not exceeded the 'guidlines' of no more than 1-2 units of alcohol once or twice a week, and have not felt guilty about having a small glass of wine when out for a meal/at a wedding etc. I've never been much of a drinker, but am sure the government would not issue these guidlines without plenty of research.

I'm nearly 16 weeks and it's coming up to my birthday I haven't had a drop but would love a glass for new years and my birthday but dunno if it's worth it in England the NHS website says you can have 2 to 3 units a week just make sure it's 2 hours before feeding.

I'm sure it's not horrible to have a glass of wine, or beer once in a while......... but it's not worth the worry for me. I'm going to choose not to have any. For me, it's not worth the one glass of alcohol. I have New Years, my birthday, my husbands birthday, and I'll be just fine drinking a cider, or another drink of some sort. There are great non alcoholic ciders out there, quite yummy actually. Well, I believe they are 0.5% alcohol, but you would have to drink 11 of them to = 1 beer. lol......

I'm with you dukechick, it's just not worth it to me. This is the time when I am responsible for a lot of what happens to my baby and me not drinking for a few months really isn't that much of a sacrifice, but I'm not much of a drinker to begin with. Just knowing what i've learned at college about alcohol fetal syndrome and how it crosses the placenta it's not something I'm doing to indulge in.

Not drinking for 9 months isn't exactly asking a lot of someone really when you consider how important your baby's life is. I personally will not risk it myself.
