During Your Labour...

She was with me the whole time, I had her practically as soon as I got there tho lol xx

I had the same mw the whole time i was in labour and the only time she left me was for lunch and break or to give me and my dh time alone.

I was was only in hospital 4 hours before he was born, but I had one midwife and a student one (who I'd seen earlier that day as they were monitoring me, as my hind waters broke the day before) who then sent me home, but I was back an hour later! Adn then when their shift ended I had one midwife who just kept popping in, and then towards the end she was with me for about an hour. I remember another midwife being in there during the pushing stage and a bit afterwards with her though. I don't know why she came in, but she did! :)

For the first stage, I only saw a mw every half hour when they came to monitor the baba. And most of the time it was a first year student who was on her second day of placement!

I was only in the delivery suite for about five or ten minutes before my LO was born so there was a mw there the whole time. Before that, I was on a pre-labour ward and two midwives were looking after about six of us.

I had a student MW and the Head MW (forget the proper name but she was in charge thats all i remember lol). The student pretty much stayed the whole time, in fact both of them were due to hand me over to another MW but they didnt want to so they stayed late for me :)

I'll never forget either of them, lovely ladies, Head MW was firm but still nice. The student had tears in her eyes when Erin was born. I got a hug and a kiss when they went as well. Getting a bit teary remembering it actually.

Well when I got to 4cm there weren't any delivery suits free so I was given diamorphine in the assessment area, well this knocked me out and knocked my contractions on the head too. When they did come back they told me they weren't close enough together and stuck me on a side ward. I was given a monitor twice in the 20hrs I was there (hate when they say back in ten but don't come back for 30-40mins, I ended up getting up and removing monitor when they didn't appear again as couldn't stand being on my back) but decided I wanted to go back home because they weren't giving me any pain relief I couldn't get at home as they thought my contractions were "just niggle pains". I was examined once because I said I wanted to leave at which point they realized my "niggling pains" had actually been contractions as I was fully effaced but still only 5cm. However delivery suite was still not an option cos contractions so far apart - so I went home anyway and didn't get back to hospital till 9cm. The midwife who helped me deliver was lovely but she left the room once to get a second opinion about something and that was the moment I really needed to push!!

It's different here in Canada when you use a midwife (most people use an ob, not a mw). They aren't based in the hospital, but out of clinics and you have two midwives throughout your whole pregnancy and are guaranteed one of them to be available when you are in labour and they stay with your throughout. I was induced so had to be transferred to ob care, but my mw still came to the hospital and was support for me throughout my labour and emergency c-section. Except for when she went to take a small nap after I finally got an epidural and took a nap myself, she was with me the whole time.

My midwife only came in to check on me from time to time or when I pressed the call button but that was how I wanted it - don't like having people around when I'm in pain.
Had two midwives for the pushing stage though and they stayed the whole time (holding my legs hah).

With my first labour I had an epidural so the midwife had to stay the whole time. With my second I had a water birth and the same midwife stayed throughout then I also had a second one come in for the pushing stage.

My midwife came to my house at 2am and 5am, then met us at the hospital at 6:30am. She stayed with me all day until Thomas was delivered at 2:21pm.

She only left once to eat.

She may as well have not been there though, all she did was sit on her arse and yawn and complain all day.

I didn't see any hospital midwives until the late evening.

My doctor didnt bug me too much, but th nurses were kinda in and out for the first few hours, then it eased off and it was just me FOB my mom and my dad for a while till my dad left then it was just us until I started screming that I needed to push :haha:

well when i first when down to the room i had one and she was hardly ever in the room but lucky for me her shift finished within an 2 hours she was a total cowbag too. and i had 2 lovely mw's (one qualified and the other a student) and they were with me the whole time.

<3

My m/w was with me all the time, never left the room and only stepped away to write notes; from 9cm till about 3h after LO was born and I had been stitched etc, had a pee and was tucked up in bed
She arrived at 9cm as that was when the contractions got bad and I called her!

My midwife kept popping in every 20 mins or so and when my LO was born there were 15 people in the room with me!

my MW was with me the whole time, she popped out for a few minutes a couple of times, butapart from that, she stayed. And she was lovely :)

I had my husband and my mom with me for nearly my entire labor, my doctor saw me 3 times that day, and I had the same nurse for almost 15 hrs of it so all in all I am a happy camper with my labor and delivery! My dr promised me when I was still in my 1st trimester that no matter what she would be there to deliver haley (it was important to me as she is the same woman that delivered me and my husband) and by george she was, she entered the room at 12:04am (I needed to start pushing at 11:45pm but was trying to hold on for her to get there) and at 12:26am I met the love of my life!

I was only at the birthing centre for just under 2 hours before i gave birth but both of them stayed with me pretty much the whole time or there was one of them there. I think they both only popped out for about 10 minutes in total at the same time. I did have my DH and mum there with me as well though.

The MW only left the room to make me cups of raspberry leaf tea :) She didn't interfere though, she sat quietly in the corner for the most part.

I had 2 with me all the way through... from when i went into the delivery suit to when i went up on ward... every so often one would leave (to get me some toast hehe) but would be back within like 5 mins, but the other would stay so was never on my own xx

Wow alot of different labour stories. I think alot of different counties/countries do it differently. My OH was sent home at 2am and came back at 6am, then MIL came at 9am and I was adamant i needed to push but they didnt believe me til i stood up and my waters gushed everywhere and i was uncontrollably pushing in the corridor lol!

OH was sat in corner mostly updating facebook hahah but when i had delivered isobelle he said 'oh, ur back then?' cos id not spoken for 11hrs lol, well a woman has to concentrate lol!
