Me, OH and LO are going on our first family holiday to spain in 3 weeks time. By then LO will be nearly 4 months old. If anyone has been away with their LO's I would appreciate some advice....

Firstly, on the plane, can I bring ready made milk through security or will i not be allowed to? How else will I be able to feed her on the plane?

Secondly, whilst abroad, as water over there is not good to drink, what should I subsitute with? Do they sell nursery water anywhere in spain? Or would I have to buy bottled water and boil that instead? And also, where can I buy formula powder?

One last thing.... Will I have to be extra careful when bathing her and bringing her in the pool? As sometimes when she's splashing around in the bath water gets in her mouth. I'm really worried about her getting ill from the water out there! Thanks in advance! Xx

1. You should be able to take ready made cartons of formula, enough for your plane journey, in your hand luggage. Give the airport a call and check their infant formula policy as I know some ladies who bring formula through have had to taste a sample of it.

2. You will need to use bottled water that has been boiled to make up powdered formula. Check the label and make sure its sodium (Na) content is 200mg/litre or less and its Sulpur (SO or SO4) content is 250mg/litre or less. I would worry about pool water as it should have been treated with chlorine.

3. Give Boots a call and see if they have a Boots branch at the spanish airport you will be flying into. If they do then you can pre-order your formula and pick it up when you arrive in Spain. Spain also have Aptamil formula, branded as Mulipa Aptamil. Its probably not the exact same as our Aptamil, but would be an option if you couldnt get your usual formula. xxx

*I wouldnt worry about pool water that should be lol xx

Im taking my 4 month old away in 2 weeks. I will take one made up bottle to airport just in case, you can take it thru security but you need to taste it. I have ordered cartons of formula from Boots at the airport, its fine to take liquids on board if you buy them after you are thru security, she should be due a feed when we are taking off so hopefully she will sleep! My HV said she wouldnt recommend me using bottle water when away to she suggested I take the cartons with me, but the drinking water is safe where i am going to boiling it will be fine. They sell the powder milk in the supermarkets where i am going so will just buy it when i get there.
