For the last couple of days LO had been a pain when feeding, he would take his bottle fine and then at random intervals start kicking off, I would take it out and he would cry for it back id give it back and it would happen again

These are the tommee tippee variflow teats and he has been on them for around 4 weeks and been fine .............

I checked the teats when feeding and they were fine, but iv just come to wash all the bottles and teats to sterilise and thought id double check and when comparing to others iv now noticed, 6 out of 12 of the teats have split!!

It has a cross section through the hole which opens more the harder they suck as you know, well 1 out of the 2 slits have split open even further so iv been drowing LO :-( I feel awful but so glad iv spotted it now and just to warn others about this, NOTE I always made sure I gently cleaned the teats to avoid damage

They arent cheap either so im really not happy

xx

hmmm... I work in the Silicone industry (our company make mouldings, like teats, tubes, gaskets etc etc..)
Silicone is a great material BUT it doesn't have the best tear strength.
IE ; If it is cut or slit it doesn't take much for it to give even further
a little hole is generally ok but when silicone is slit it does become more vulnerable - even the high tear compounds.
I would def complain to TT about it, perhaps they are using a cheaper grade of compound with poor tear (chances are they are moulded in china)..

Thanks for that info ouchwithno.2 I defo am thinking of complaining just need to sort out an email as im rubbish at things like that

Id complain too, especially if its as many as you say, maybe if you bought them all at the same time you got a faulty batch?! Good news you noticed :)

I would complain too. I had nothing but trouble with TT teats last time! x

I would complain also hun. I think Variflow teats would go sooner because of the slit.

Ps don't feel bad its not your fault hun

ive heard about this, im gonna check our ones too

no problem.
things can also go wrong in the manufacture which could affect the quality of the silicone - temp too high on the mould press, that can cause silicone to become more brittle (silicone can only go up to 250c max BUT that wouldn't be a food grade silicone like a baby teat which would only manage 180-200deg c tops).
steam can also break silicone down, you can steam sterilise but it would have an impact after a long time.
this is along the lines of what they should be using (probably very boring to you!!) but I doubt they are, bet it is some dodgy chinese cheap compound :

my friend had this problem with her TT variflow teats.

i must say TT customer services are amazing so defiantely complain, my steriliser broke after 5 months and they sent me a cheque for the RRP value :D

Thanks everyone for your replies, made me feel better :)

My mum is writing a complaint letter for me as she is good at stuff like that, ill let you know the outcome
