Fertility Treatment - NHS/Private

Just a quickie - if you choose to go private rather than NHS for IVF - do you use separate fertility clinics or do the PCTs still do it?

I know my local PCT falls to Sidcup so wondering what happens if we are paying?

Hi there. Many private clinics also take NHS funded. We are in a private clinic in Bristol and half way through out treatment our local PCT agreed to start funding for one cycle. The Bristol clinic told me that they had about 10-15% PCT funded at their private clinic.

We ended up at the same clinic as we would have with NHS IVF. We looked around and were happy that their results were the best in the area anyway so it all worked ok for us. I'm sure we could have asked to be referred elsewhere though if we'd wanted.

So DH has his 2nd SA and a referral to the urologist - do you happen to know at what point they will refer us to a clinic/waiting list for IVF? Just wondering how long it will take! xx

Umm.... think it was maybe 6 weeks ish to get appointment to do a SA in the hospital after 2nd GP SA. Is that what you are expecting urologist to do?

Then I think it was a couple of months after that test that we had first IVF appointment, however.... we jumped the queue a bit on that... I'll try to explain. Our FS who referred DH for the test was not part of the hospital and we were supposed to go back and see him to find out results of DH test. However, before that appointment had had happened the hospital had sent us an appointment with the consultant there (by mistake) for an IVF appointment. So we probably saved another 4-6 weeks I guess.
