We had our NT ultrasound yesterday at 12 weeks and I am happy to report that baby is developing wonderfully.

However, at our doctors apt following the ultrasound my OBGYN mentioned that all my labs came back normal except for the thyroid antibody panel. I mentioned at my 9 week appointment that I have Hashimoto's and had been tested positive for the antibodies before and have be euthyroid with medication for the last year.

My doctor said that because of this, they want me to have a level 2 ultrasound at 20 weeks and I will meet with a fetal specialist. I was surprised by this because I had this condition when I was pregnant with my first child and my doctor at the time never did anything. When I asked if that means I am high risk she said "Yes and no". And when I asked what they were looking for she said that my antibodies can attack the babies thyroid and cause issues.

All of this was new to me and I haven't been able to find a lot on the internet. I know lots of people have thyroid issues. Has anyone else dealt with this? Should I be concerned?

Thanks!

I don't have all the info, but I was diagnosed with Hashimotos, celiac, PCOS, lupus, all things that can cause your body to turn on baby, and I have three delightful little ones. My doctor doesn't worry about my thyroid because I have been treated before it became an issue (only started treatment a month before getting pregnant with my first!).

I treat all of my autoimmune disorders with a paleo diet, which also helps to combat morning sickness (even though I am definitely suffering this time around!). Avoiding grains and sugars keeps my antibodies away. This is something you can definitely do your research on - there is even a stricter plan for those of us with autoimmune issues. I don't need to go that far. Regular paleo keeps mine at bay, but some people need to also avoid eggs and nuts and night shades.

Best of luck! I honestly don't think you have anything to worry about us. There are many, many of us with Hashimotos whom I've seen on these boards over the years. We have ALL had fine pregnancies!
