I am meant to be away from the internet for the next week or two but wanted to ask this before leaving.
On Sunday, my husband cooked frozen pork in the crock pot to an internal temperature of 140, which took about 9 hours to get there. WHY he decided to cook the pork frozen, I dunno. Everything I read said this was a very bad idea because it's like the perfect breeding ground for bacteria to grow due to it not reaching a higher temperature fast enough. We didn't eat it that night, but ate it Monday night after it had been in the oven another 40 minutes to warm it up, and I am actually the only one who ate it was a small amount. Maybe six bites worth.
Anyway, 24 hours later I got horrible gas cramps, followed by having diarrhea (sorry) once. I felt immediately better afterwards. Does that sound like food poisoning at all caused by the undercooked pork? I had some nausea, (but I am pregnant. Lol) no vomiting, no fever, didn't lose my appetite. And was perfectly fine the next day minus a headache. Wouldn't food poisoning have lasted longer?
I called my doctor who sent me for a blood test for Listeria due to the recent recall on fruits. I mentioned all the pork stuff, it being frozen when cooked and cooked for 9 hours, only reaching 140. They said to not worry about that because that wasn't it.
Logic tells me since I only had diarrhea once, felt immediately better, and had no vomiting or anything that I probably didn't get food poisoning but maybe it just didn't agree with me, and wanted others opinions.
Undercooked pork can cause a slew of problems like trichinellosis (which is serious but very rare), salmonella, e coli, and taxo all of which are characterized by stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Again, I guess I am looking for some reassurance that I probably didn't get food poisoning from undercooked pork since I only used the bathroom once and never puked. seems like it would last longer than that right? Also, symptoms came on very suddenly. It was over start to finish in an hour.
Sorry this post is super tmi. Hopefully someone can help!
