Four yr old in pram

If you think she needs a buggy that's all that matters. People are gonna judge no matter what you do!

Who cares?
Remember most of the families you see at the shops probably got there by car, hence few 4 yo in buggies.

Exactly this!

At the mo we drive pretty much everywhere to avoid using the buggy. Tom hates walking more than about 10 mins and whinges so much that walking 40 mins into town is out at the mo and I don't want him in the buggy if possible.

You do what you need to

Ben is nearly 4 and he still uses a buggy. If it's a quick walk to the shop then he walks but if we are going to town then we use it. I can't carry him when he's got 'tired legs' and tbh the threat of the buggy makes him walk further! People often give me the look but theyd also give me that same look if he was having an almighty melt down because he wants carrying. I've given up caring what people think. If he still needs a pushchair when he's 10 then I may have something to worry about!

I stick jake our eldest in a double for a lot of trips he's around the same age as yours.

In my experience age doesn't matter, it's all about ability and if you feel the walking you are doing is too much for your child is too much then do whatever suits your child.

Don't let other people's opinions cloud your parenting decisions

I quite often end up with Daisy in the pushchair as soon as Finn is out of it  Id rather push her than carry her tbh!

I think the only people who criticize the stroller are people who drive everywhere. We live in a big city and we have to do a lot of walking. Any idea how dangerous it is to have a 2.5yr old by the hand in NYC? Not to mention it slows me down when I've got him by the hand, he's like a puppy who wants to stop and inspect everything. When I'm on an errand he's in the stroller, when I want to walk for exercise he's in the stroller, if we have to walk far he's in the stroller. In fact, I think it's criminal how much people depend on their cars.

Like many others said, it depends on the circumstances. My little girl is 3 years and five months old and hasn't been in her buggy more than twice since she was two, but she actually likes walking a lot and can walk for quite a fair distance.

Generally I don't entirely agree with using a buggy for a 4 year old if it is just for a ten minute walk or so, because the exercise is good for them, but for a walk of an hour or so, if you feel that it is too far for your LO to walk then why not??

Also, like someone else said, it takes a lot longer to walk with a child, so that one hour walk could end up being a two hour walk without the buggy. It's sort of like an adult driving to the local shops rather than walking... sure, they could walk.. but it is quicker and more convenient to drive sometimes. Don't worry about what others think- it is your child and you know what they are capable of. xx

I think she's too old but I can see where your coming from however why not stop for breaks!

That said I know 10 min walk is different to an hour. My friend threw her buggy in storage so she was never tempted. Her lo is fine walking. She also uses his scooter so it's a tad easyier. But it depends on you.

I was just commenting to my husband today how silly it is that people use strollers for 4 year olds. That being said, an hour there and back plus walking in between sounds like an awful lot of walking! Personally, I'd probably stick her in the back carrier mei tai, but to each their own.

If Owen is going to get tired by the distance we are walking I will take his buggy, hes heavy and if I pick him up his legs dangle past my knees its very hard to walk with him lol.

I think its more ability over age some 4 year olds may feel more comfortable walking long distances whilst others don't I wouldn't worry :) xx

I have the same thing with my 4yo and my friend commented that once they're 2 they shouldn't go in a buggy anymore. but she drives everywhere and i walk everywhere, so if they only have to walk 10 minutes from the carpark then yes they can walk but if it's an hour away which it often is then i think it's fine for them to go in the buggy.

My oldest is nearly 4 and still uses a pram. I don't see the big deal if I am honest. We go for walks daily for a couple of hours and it is far too much for her. We don't usually go shopping for long periods of time (I find it much easier to shop online) but there are times when we are out and about when she uses a pram. I sometimes get comments- but it shuts them up when I ask if they want to volunteer carrying a 30lb overtired toddler while wearing a 20lb 6 month old. It stops meltdowns too. She loves it in her pram so if she is getting fed up I stick her in there for a quick few Zs and she is right as rain.

I think 4 is to old however it up the parents, and I may reconsider if we lived that far from the town as children do get tired really easily :) x

My reaction was no, but I honestly don't know why! I'd have no qualms with a four year old in a carrier. But yeah it makes absolute sense logically!

I expect I might still use ours when Micah is 4. We don't have a car and I think nothing of walking 2+ hours a day several times a week. At 1 he already loves walking locally but I can't imagine taking him that far without a buggy at least with us for a long long time.

Say we desperately need food in our to go to the dr or something and he's tired or ill. Most people would think nothing of using the car but as it's not an option for us we'd probably have to use the buggy even if we got funny looks for it.

In general yes, but like you said for an hour each way or long walks then no! As long as you are comfortable with it, screw everybody else!
