So you've been in Germany for a while then?

I come from New Zealand, I met my husband there 8 years ago while he was studying there for a year. We lived in NZ for 4-5 years, and he wrote his PHD. He then had to move back to Germany for a job and he's been here for 3 years, and I stayed in NZ for another year and a half to finish up some study. I moved here in Sept 2010 and we got married in Oct :). And just to add onto that, We started TTC in Nov last year, it took us 4 months and we are now due in Nov this year :D! We also managed to get pregnant on our last trip to NZ, so we met there and conceived there :).

hm What is the difference between cupcakes and muffins? I thought they were the same :haha: You can get baking mixes to do them yourself though.

I by the way am German, and live in Hamburg in the North :). My husband is an English-speaking South African .

Where abouts does you husband come from in SA?

Um, well icing really, but also I think cupcakes tend to have a higher butter/sugar content. And be mixed more. It's basically the difference between muffins and cakes. I'm hypothesising though :P

Thanks! :) morri, my husband's German. Where's everyone from and how did you end up in Germany? :)

I come from Southampton in the UK and I met my OH on world of warcraft :haha: He came to London to visit me and stayed with me as that was our original plan as I had a job etc, but when we came here to get his stuff I fell in love with the place and demanded to come back :haha: I've been here for 2 years now.

As for cupcakes, I have never seen any apart from muffins. I have seen the dr oetker ones but I don't know good they are. I never see them in bakeries or anything. I don't think it's common here to make them so probably best if you make them yourself if you don't find anywhere.

Well it is common to have them at little parties or so(like kids birthday parties or little functions) They do have muffins at the university cantina though :haha:

Haha, I'm guessing your on a euro server? :3 (or were)

Yeah. I was on an English speaking server and I would have imagined my OH would have played on a German server. He's been playing since it came out and I don't know if there were German servers then (I didn't start playing til mid burning crusade). We don't play at the moment as we don't have time, I'm sure we'll pick up again once the new expansion comes out :haha:

We played since vanilla, although late vanilla. We played on on american servers :P. But my DH no longer plays, he feels he doesn't get enough done when he does! I've stopped playing till panda, although I don't play much as most of the people I played with are no longer playing.
Panda comes out for my last month of pregnancy, so its going to keep me entertained :P

I don't get enough done either when I play. It's scarily addictive. Oh and me PvP a lot so we tend to get stuck in and forget the time. I've tried another game which is a similar pvp type game but has really stupid penalties if you leave before the game is over. My OH left a game twice and had a 24 hour ban  at least with wow you don't have such crippling penalties for leaving but it's annoying to pay for it.

Yeah, and now that they have changed it so you don't get stuck in games so long, it's so much better. I'd love to do more raiding, but I don't want to commit to it. Also, we used to have good times being in NZ and playing in the states. But now any raiding times are at impossible times :(.

But oh well, baby will be here soon! I can't wait till she arrives :)
Are any of you ladies doing cloth nappies? Did I ask this before? I've kind of become addicted to finding good deals on ebay :O

I want to try it :) I have got a few already but need to get more.

Sarah, do you think the soon to be three of you will ever move back to NZ? I've been in Germany since September 2009.
I've been really wanting to try cloth diapers! They're just so expensive when having to buy all at once. So, the convenience of disposables kind of outweighed the long term money saving/extra hassle with cloth. I do want to get a few to test out anyway. I like the pocket type, I think they're called? The kind where I can throw the liner away.. or whatever it's called. Someone on here explained it to me before but I've forgotten the terminology.

morri, cupcakes are usually vanilla, chocolate and there are probably other flavors too but that's what I'm used to, those two flavors. They have frosting on top. Muffins are usually with fruits, sometimes chocolate chips, and without frosting. Makes me really miss Funfetti cake/cupcakes (https://www.pillsburybaking.com/products/details/692)
Mmmm!

dgirllamius that is really neat, how you and your husband met! We totally played, past tense :p, WoW too! Not anymore. :p Maybe when that panda world comes out we'll try to play again.. I think it'll be out soon, maybe September-Octoberish my husband was saying. Once our second's born I think we'll have to retire it completely for at least a couple years!

Yeah me too, I wish we were in the UK for it. They have so many more options!

Yep we are always trying to get back to NZ :P We'd love to be there now tbh, but things don't always work out like that!
Sept 09, is a year longer than me :)

Yeah they are, I think though your lucky with your LOs, having two babies make it so much cheaper to do cloth though! I'm going to buy some second hand ones from Ebay as well. I want to be able to try out some for cheaper before I invest in any type. Although they always say you should buy a few brands because some week/months they fit better than others.

There are pockets, AIOs and AI2s which are the easy ones. AIOs are all in ones, AI2s are two bits, which clip together and you mostly just wash the inner, and then pockets I believe you have a bit of fabric which you fold into 3 (super easy as well). I think I like AIOs the best, but thats because to buy one it;s cheaper... to buy 1 AI2s you have to buy the outer, which ads up, and then is only cheaper when you buy more inners...
There is always a bit in the middle that either you can wash or throw away, it's the liner. :) yeahhhh, kinda becoming obsessed, and I don't even have a baby yet...

Yeah sept the 25th I think! I might only play for a month tbh, until the baby comes :) but It'll be nice I think!

I so far have mostly fitteds and some pockets.
hehe In Germany all the little cakes (törtchen" are just thrown together no matter whether they have fruit or are coated woth chocolate or whatever. speaking of which I recently had a blueberry muffin which I got at the local bakery.

Congratulations on the pregnancies in here, by the way! Looks like everyone's having a girlie. :D

I understand it may not be so easy to get back to NZ with your husband having work here, Sarah. Hope you'll manage to work it out soon enough! :) I don't think I'd want to leave NZ either if I were from there. Then again I've never been but it looks dreamy!
We'd also like to get to/back to the U.S. We both have concerns when it comes to moving there but we'll probably give it a go before the kids are too far along in school here. I don't necessarily see our entire future here. :p

Ebay, good idea! Which brands are you looking into testing? I guess I'm not 100% sure about second hand diapers but I could put them through a 95º cycle. It seems many BnBers get cloth diapers off Ebay and such so it can't be so bad. :) Thanks for the explanation!

Do you play on the German server? We do but I wish I could play on the English one because all the slang in German gets me stumped! Plus I'm way too slow to respond, hehe. But, then my husband and I can't trade items and whatever else and he doesn't want to start all over on another server. Ah well!

Also the buy swap and sell section is also nice on here , as UK ebay has issues with used nappies apparently.

Oh my, chat happy today! I made my own cupcakes in the end - lemon - yum! I just wanted them to satisfy a craving, so no need for anything too fancy!
All this WoW is like another foreign language to me...
Saphira, I'm Northern Irish, hubby is English, he's been here since Jan, I've been here with our two girls since April... baby number 3 due any time now (although I reckon another 3 weeks...) We're meant to be team yellow, but the doctor slipped up and told us what it is... but we're still keeping it a secret so it's a surprise for everyone else!
