Atm I only get finger checks for my cervix, and I think this is how the other docs I have heard from do it as well.

yeh she does that too and the ph levels maybe its to do with my uiterus then as i know it can causet pre term labour maybe she just wants to check everything is still ok:haha:

2 h later and i still havent done any thing....

Yeah my doctor checks my PH levels, and does a "1 finger check", lol, idk why, but that makes me cringe when I say it! He also does a quick position scan of the baby.

yeah, still trying to convince myself to go into the basement to hang up DH's washing...

well at least I managed to take the rubbish bag out of its bin and collect the old newspaper together and put it on the table  ok , now no more internet and get unpacking the dish washer :haha:

I had a scan at each appt with doctor, just a quick glance over type thing, she had the ultrasound machine in her consulting room, so did it after a quick internal each time...
no talk of me having to pay for it!
I've seen a neurologist in the UK just before we moved, who has recommended a treatment plan for the headaches, but can't while I'm breastfeeding... it sucks. In a month I'll be OK as I'll be used to it again, it's just cos I had a lovely time off that it's annoying me now

just found this link very helpfull i shall be memorising all words and phrases that are down the right hand side

https://www.howtogermany.com/pages/havingababy.html

do you know I read that website about 5 times, and kept seeing references to the lists of useful words, and I never spotted them written down the right hand side!

:haha: i had to read it a few times before i noticed it have bookmarked it now so i can learn them:haha:

Haha, I've read this page a few times too and never saw the phrases!!! :DOHH:

Sorry I'm still on this, but genuinely interested! holywoodmum and morri - do you have private health insurance or regular? I'm wondering because my doctor also has ultrasound equipment in his office but I'm only given ultrasounds if one of the trimester ones is up or it's paid for privately (30€). Just a bit jealous if you get one at every appointment regardless.

I've found that site before Whisper! It's amazing how medical my German became once pregnant. Simple words like "eigenständig" I just learned last night yet "geburtszange" and "dammschnitt" are readily available in my vocabulary, hahaha!

Well, yeah.. I've been up since 4AM. Slept maybe 2hrs. Aurora was up soon after her dad left - the world's lightest sleeper I swear! He's working the early and late shift today and probably for the rest of the week, sigh. More money but not so nice on the sleep. Fun, fun!

I am on ordinary gesetzliche Krankenkasse. (Techniker Krankenkasse) They have however been rated as the best numerous times so they may just have more optional treatments (like they also do acupuncture and some homeopathic stuff they pay)

You know this one was the first baby /pregnancy related forum that i was on so when I went onto the German one (the nfp one) I had to relearn a lot of the stuff I had learnt here, especially in the babywearing and cloth nappy parts , but I still say epidural instead of PDA :haha:

Linguistically interesting is babywearing: In german "to carry" and "to wear" are both described by the same word "tragen" I wonder where babywearing came first from, maybe it was just a bad translation :haha:.(like hoppediz have been making wraps since the 70s)

Haha, yeah I got my DH to read some of those phrases on that website as I thought he'd possibly only know the english word for things and not the german :) (he is german...).

I have non private insurance, and I get an ultrasound every time. But it's not like the long ones you get, it takes about 2 minutes and he just checks position and a couple of other things. He often makes sure not to call it an ultrasound though, because the insurance doesn't technically cover it (only 3).

You're all lucky! 2 minutes is better than 0. :( I want to see my baby every time too! :( I have AOK but I don't think it makes a difference, my doctor's office is always full so he needs patients in and out.

Babywearing sounds kind of funny to me. I didn't know that's how it's referred to really until I entered Baby Club! Unfortunately mine doesn't like to be worn much. See, that sounds weird, haha! Wonder what our second will think.

Sarah, have you noticed Brewfest on WoW doesn't start until the 28th?! How annoying is that?! Oktoberfest started last week, why's Brewfest starting a week later? Plus, no one will be there to do the group quests since Pandaria's out by then. I love the Brewfest and Halloween event. :)

Babylove all the way! We tried Babylove, Pampers, Babydream (Rossmann brand) and the eco friendly version, Babylove Nature. Babydream and Babylove Nature I personally wouldn't recommend. Babydreams leaked more often than the others and the Natures felt like softened cardboard and leaked worst of all of them. :/ Pampers Baby Drys are awesome in Midis (3) and we used them only for when she started sleeping through the night and tended to have very full diapers in that size but now that hasn't been so bad so we're using Babyloves only in Maxi (4). For day use and when they're newborns there's really no difference at all between Pampers and Babyloves except the price (Pampers is around 2-3€ more expensive a pack for the same amount).

Also, I want to add - I'd start at Minis (2) instead of newborn and here's why - we had a few packs of NB Babyloves and Pampers ready. Each pack comes with 28 diapers and is for 2-5kg while a Mini pack comes with 42 diapers for 3-6kg and there's a price difference of about a Euro with the NBs more expensive for nearly half the amount (and you need a ton of diapers when they're tiny, we went through 7-9 a day!). So, NB size, not at all worth it in my opinion. The only difference between NB and Minis is the Minis are a few cm longer, if that. Other than that they're identical. So, this time around we're definitely starting with Minis.

Okay, I wrote a novel there, sorry. Hope it helps anyway. :)

From my memory she went through a ton the first weeks. Or maybe we just changed her diaper too often, no idea! I'd say 7-9 a day honestly (but don't worry this lessens! She's now in 4-5 a day at 9 months). So, for the first month you'll probably need either 9ish packs of NBs only or 6ish packs of Minis (2) only. I know that seems like a lot and it is an estimate but like I said, it lessens over time thankfully. :)
