Gestational Diabetes Group - Us vs. the Carbs

7+ weeks hopefully to go for me! I sort of want my privilidge of going overdue!

I finish work on Friday, I really need to now. My body is exhausted.

Thanks so much ladies! I am glad my baby came out on your birthday Amythyst! Most of you are in the home stretch ladies! Not long now. Take hope from my case that baby might decide on its own to come in week 38 or earlier. No one in my family has given birth this early nor has anyone on my husband's side so I think it's GD that made my baby come early.

My placenta was 650 gm and was healthy as can be. I had a super long umbilical cord that was 76 cm and was wound once round baby's neck and once round his belly. But they said since it was so long there was never a danger of strangulation. I had the right amount of amniotic fluid too.

So you ladies that have had taken insulin or have had high numbers days in a row, please take heart. I have been imperfect and had so many high numbers I was sure I was harming baby. But he turned out to be healthy and fine. They told me at the hospital that the blood sugar meters are mostly calibrated higher than labs so your actual readings might be slightly lower than you actually see on the meter. That's good news for all of us!

You ladies are doing better than most other "healthy" pregnant moms and you and your baby will be better for it in the long run and please don't worry about your placentas and baby being ok on the inside. You will all be fine. I am praying for all of you :)

To continue with the positives, today is 4 days after birth and I am already lighter than what I was pre-pregnancy. That is with my huge breastfeeding boobs that weigh a kilo each and with extra fluid still in my body.

thanks oneway! Congratulations on the weight loss!

Letsgo, we are due on the same day (according to my very early dating scan that I still don't believe). I'm thinking closer to April 20 and still hope to be earlier than that. All of the women in my mom's family have gone early. So that puts me at at least 6.5-7 weeks left! Looking at my numbers spreadsheet, I am over half way done with my GD diet... 8 weeks down, no more than 8 weeks to go!

Nothern, I hope you get some good news on an induction date and help with the numbers... It sucks so much when they spike and you have no idea why.

I'm so glad everything worked out so perfectly Oneway and that baby is doing well :flower: Your post made me feel really emotional.

I must admit I find it hard to stop the judgmental feeling when I see a pregnant woman gorging on sugar - but then I have to remind myself for most people that is fine and if I hadnt of had this issue I would likely be doing the same.

I remember looking at both my girls when they were born, especially DD2 where I was was diet controlled for such a long time, and just seeing she was healthy and I'd worked so hard for her to be safe, it was an amazing feeling.

I am due on 22 April by scan dates. I think, if they let me though, she will be late.

That's great news and makes me hopeful.

Amelie it's such an eye opening experience though. I thought I ate healthy before (although not within portion size often times) but holy crap, what I was eating before was pure crap. I don't think I can ever go back to that now or justify it.

I'm getting a NST on Friday and a sweep on Tuesday. If it doesn't work, I get another ultrasound next week. I'll get another sweep the following Tuesday and if that doesn't work she will induce me that Thurs/Fri

I think I'm the next one that is going to pop. Hopefully they will induce me today or tomorrow. My appointment is in a few hours, so I'll know then! I'm going to insist they get this giant baby out. :D

Good luck!!! Hope they do something for you.

My sugars are going to be totally out of whack. I went and got a sugar free soy latte that I get sometimes and it doesn't touch my sugars. I felt like it tasted sooooo good and was almost through it all before I realized it tasted so good because they screwed up and had regular vanilla syrup in it.

Finally had my appointment with diabetes specialist and dietician today.
Got my monitor and she showed me how to test my sugars. It was 2 hours after lunch and my reading was 5.2 which she said was perfect. I was dreading having to test because of my needle phobia but it really wasn't that bad. She only wants me to test once a day too which I can live with. Feel much better now I've sat down with her. Appointment with dietician was a bit of a waste of time seeing as I had already made changes to my diet thanks to you lot :)

awww Amelie! :hugs: :flower:

You have been an inspiration to us all having done this three times! As a reward you get the satisfaction of knowing that you gave your girls the best ever start to life with stellar nutrition.

To continue with the positives, has anyone noticed that their skin is much better on this diet? My fine lines have disappeared and I had no new stretch marks from this pregnancy. I think the fact that sugar causes glycation which damages the skin is really true. https://www.prevention.com/beauty/beauty/how-sugar-ages-your-skin

Good luck with the induction Amythyst. You and Northern are next in line!

Good luck Amythyst, be patient with your induction. Settle down and relax and it will feel less stressful!

With dd2 I was mentally prepared for it taking days, in fact she was here the next day.

Northern - that sucks....grrrrrr. If they messed up definitely complain!!!

I look quite OK on this diet I think. Only got stretch marks with dd1 who was my sugar baby

My skin has been wonderful until the past few days. I'm hoping it's some hormonal surge that means labour is near.

I wish I could say the same thing about my skin - I have rosacea and the only thing that works for me as a treatment is Doxycycline and I haven't been able to take it pregnant of course. So, my face has been red and filled with bumps most of the time. Pregnancy seems to have kept it from getting worse which is good but still very annoying.

Well, no more being induced.... I'm now having a c-section on Friday morning. She said with the projected size of the baby and that this is my first child and there is no way to know if he might get "stuck" trying to come out naturally that a c-section is a better option. In a way, I'm sort of relieved... it takes the stress out of not knowing what labor will be like and also if I could push a 9 pound meatloaf out my hooha.

I also get 2 extra weeks of time off from work... so win-win. :) They checked my cervix today and its still closed and no sign of labor, so they thought inducing would probably take a long time for me or not work at all.

I am glad you are feeling positive about the c section, I wasnt very favourable at all for induction with DD1 and it was hard going. She was little but I almost had a csection.

I hope you get a lovely calm birth experience on Friday :flower:

Good luck with the c-section tomorrow Amythyst! Getting to spend an extra 2 weeks with your baby is a nice bonus :)

Thanks ladies... I will let you all know how it goes. :)

I was fine but then I remembered I've been on low dose aspirin every day since like 20 weeks to help with my blood pressure and to try and ward off pre-eclampsia and I totally forgot to ask the doctor if that was a problem! I made a thread about it hoping someone might be able to ease my nerves... I will of course remind them tomorrow morning but I'm wondering if that might be an issue or not.

Good luck Amythyst!

I just got back from my appointment and I'm starting to get frustrated with my OB. First, he tells me he won't be here from April 9-19 so one of the other doctors that I have never met will likely be delivering my baby (at least on my thinking). He is also still insisting on an April 26 due date even though every appt since the 7week one, buns has been measuring a week bigger, consistently. So even though we are measuring at 34 weeks, which is really close to what I am saying, he still says I am 32+5 and that baby is 92 percentile. He is around 5 lbs right now.
I also asked again about classes or something because being a FTM, I have no idea what to expect. I haven't seen the L&D or maternity area and he blew me off again saying do it closer to time, you will forget everything anyways.

When it comes to the GD, he just scans my numbers and says eat more veggies, start with salads, eat more protein and exercise more. Doesn't ask about what I am already doing or anything. He also said if my fasting numbers start hitting 6 to let him know. I have never had a fasting number close to that and they are on their way back down from a peak when I wasn't sleeping. No mention of extra scans, no mention of how anything is looking as a result of the GD, nothing. He just has me coming back in 3 weeks for my 35 week appointment with no mention of another ultrasound or anything, just quick measurements and the GBS testing. I'm not sure if I should be worried or just let it all go!!!
Sorry for the rant, I'm just going crazy cause I am a planner too and I don't like the laid back attitude when it comes to things that o have no idea what is going on!

I'm not sure what area of china you're in, but maybe it's just a difference in health care systems. In another group I'm in there is a girl teaching in China and I know she had some issues with the way they were doing things over there.
