Got Boxers ?

How have I misse dthis thread for so long???

I have had three boxers since 2001.

Yes I am nuts!
One died due to agressive cancer in 2008. Levi, I had her for 10.5 years :sad2:
So I mated her daughter and kept a puppy.
Now I have George, Tasca and her pup Tallulah.

George and Tasca are brother and sister (we mated levi back in 2001 and fell in love with 2 pupps,, was only supposed to be keeping one!)
Anyways.. george and tasca are 9 soon and 'lula is 17months.
They are all fine round Mylo.. I have never had any problems and think theyre great pets!

I have to find the link on FB.. for pics.
here> can anyone see? have I done it right? lol

Boxer puppies are actually the cutest puppies in the world. Only thing cuter is human babies playing with boxers! xx

If you change your mind, make sure you pm me! :winkwink:

Haha.. I could be convinced maybe 4 years down the line! lol

I have just had bad experiences with litters. I did everything by the book and regularly seen by the vets for both through their pregnancies AND births, and after deliveries.
But I had the worst luck and on both occassions the vet said sometimes it just happens and you cant help it.
But twice with me!

so in brief>
1st> My levi, found a good stud 2001 for her. Mated, twice tied and pregnancy was good.. everything went well till she went into labour. 8 pups delivered.. 5 were stillborn. later investigations on their little bodies found out Levi had a rare womb infection for the last two days of pregnancy which spread to the majority of pups. We were mortified and so upset. 3 healthy pups brought up, george, Tasca, and 'harry' which we sold but ended up being called george also!

2nd> Tasca was pregnant by a damn fine stud I found on the pet lovers online site and was well experienced with this. Tasca mated well and pregnancy and birth of 7 puppies all textbook.
THEN the problems started.
We lost EVERY SINGLE puppy week by week toa bacterial infection that affected the whole litter except one female puppy-Talullah. I couldnt sell her after going through sooo soo much with the letter.
Its absolutely heartbreaking seeing them drop like flies and everytime I ran to the vets with another dying puppy they just looked at me and shrugged. Their medication wasnt working and I lost all but one.
However I only wanted to keep one.
But the line I still have cos Talulah is Levis Grandaughter. And special to me.. even tho shes just chewed through Mylos new toothbrush.. Grrrr.. she may me mated maybe one day. I dunno.

By the way.. Lula has a TAIL and IT DRIVES ME MADDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!

why did they change that law.. so silly!

Ohh gosh hun thats so sad :( only one puppy from each litter died of ours but that was terrifying enough. The first puppy was born with something wrong with its cleft palate... As he was feeding the milk was coming out of his nose.. Me, mum & dad took it in turns to stay up all night, tilting his head back and feeding him through a teat. He started yelping in pain after a few days, took him to the vets again and they found he had something wrong inside his tummy. So we had to have him put down.

The second litter, we breaded meg with a stud from carmarthen. He was huge and had a chest of iron on him, such a beauty. When meg went into labour the first pup was so big meg couldnt push him out. We rushed her to the vets and the vet managed to pull him out but sadly he wasnt alive. Luckily the rest were small enough for meg to give birth.

Its not something Id go into light hearted but it is so rewarding receiving pics from people who have bought them from you a year down the line :)

I am absolutely devastated, literally heartbroken. My Arni is dying.

He had an MRI yesterday morning as he'd been having a few funny episodes and unfortunately it's game over for our big boy. He's got very aggressive tumours, started in heart and already spread to spleen and possibly other organs as cancerous blood clots are breaking off and travelling all over, literally riddling his body. There's no treatment, there's no cure. Vet told us he's a ticking time bomb, if we do nothing, he has maximum a few months and would have a nasty, traumatic end.

Vet said if it was her dog, she'd be inclined to let him go peacefully and sooner rather than later. We're making an appointment for the 23rd December to say goodbye, the same day that I lost my precious girl boxer Biri 4 yrs ago. They were thick as thieves those two so in a way quite touching that they share a special date to be reunited.

He's not in any pain at the moment but this dam disease can hit him at any time. If he gets a clot in his chest he will collapse and we won't even have time to get him to the vet. He can't have any excitement or pressure on his heart, he can't have off lead exercise, we've been advised to never walk him too far from the car and to have at least 2 people walking him in case he collapses. We have to check his gums at least twice a day as the colour is a sign that things have taken a turn for the worst.

He's 61/2 and had the worst start in life and fought so strong and so hard and got better. But there's no way he can fight this so I have to let him go peacefully and with dignity. To keep him going and take away all his fun runs and excitement is too cruel and would destroy his beautiful character. He'd hate it and I can't do it to him.

I'm so heartbroken, I've cried a million tears but they just keep falling. Can't believe I have 2 weeks left with my beautiful boy.

I know he's "just a dog" but he's my dog, he's been there every day for 61/2 years, he's been my comfort during a few horrible years, he's literally one in a million and I'm not ready to lose him :-(

That's so sad, I feel for you. We just lost our 13 yrs old boxer, dosn't matter what age they are all special in their own little way

There was a time when heart failure was the most common thing in boxers, now it's cancer. We lose so many Boxers to cancer in our rescue. It's heartbreaking, we lost a 12 mths old beautiful boxer boy to cancer of the spleen last week

Hope you have a lovely 2 weeks with him :hugs::hugs:

Boxers have the most beautiful soul it's so unfair that they are plagued by so many nasties.
Out of interest, not that I'm in any way ready yet, but I'm thinking about life without a boxer and I'm not sure I want that. arni and my eldest (19 months) have an amazing bond and apart from wanting a boxer myself, I want my children to grow up with one as to me, that's something special. But hypothetically speaking, would a rescue centre rule us out as we have young children, my youngest is 7 weeks, or is it a case of waiting for the right dog. A dog that has come from a family rather than been neglected with an unknown background.

I'd love to be able to give a loving home to a boxer that needs one but was wondering about our eligibility.

Not ready yet for many reasons, including that I used to work from home but resigned a month ago. August time I'll know if I'm going to be out at work full time in which case I wouldn't even consider another dog. But if circumstances allow, I'd like to know what options we have other than buying a puppy.

Thank you and thanks for your lovely kind words. People told me you've never had a dog til you've had a boxer and they are spot on xxx

Can I join?!

I've got a mad boxer girl Rox, wouldnt swop her for the world.

My babies!

Zak never barks (except at the hoover!) but he has started to randomly howl? He will just get up, stand, give a long dramatic howl (like a wolf) and then lie back down? Why???!!!

He is such a crazy dog. :haha:

All so gorgeous!

Arni howls too, it's so funny. If I'm upstairs and the phone rings he'll howl, if the baby cries he'll howl and funnily enough, if you mimic him howling for long enough, he'll start to do it - go on try it!!

Here is my baby... Abraham. He will be 3 in March.

Not really, if you shout a Rox when he is licking he is just going to start seeing the baby as a bad thing... I'd use distraction with a toy of something squeeky to get him out of the habbit.
