Had to share as I find this very upsetting..

Not to sound like a ho bag, but I've seen plenty of both and they are all pretty much the same in functionality

Okay I admit I was a bit of a ho bag before I found my OH

:rofl::rofl: Same here! They both work the same as far as I can tell. Oh and this isn't meant to offend anyone - but for those who say a circ'd penis looks "nicer" than one that isn't, let's be honest here, they aren't all that pretty either way.

So true!

There's a quote from a movie (I think it's Mermaids, not 100% on that) but it goes like this. "Naked men look like partially decorated Christmas trees."

 Aliss, I call people hoe bags so much , but I definitely thought it was a NS thing so it cracked me up to hear you say it!

As far as penises being pretty ... they're not. but they do their job.

I'm unsure of where I stand on this... I definitely do not agree with it for cosmetic reasons, ''his dad has it'' or ''everyone has it done here, it's the norm''. It must hurt the baby though and it is modifying their bodies which I don't agree with.

If a ban was put in place and the ''extremists'' decided to circumcise their kids themselves, or as a PP said a local mosque were doing it in her area, this is definitely not cool and I think those children need to be removed from the care of their parents!

I will repeat myself, I dont agree with banning at all, I chose to have my son done, and I MADE the RIGHT decision for my son. No one has the right to tell me I am wrong!

Even if a ban were to go through, DO NOT BAN IT FOR RELIGIOUS REASONS!

The United States of America was founded on RELIGIOUS FREEDOMS! The Pilgrams came to America from England to avoid persecusion for there religous beliefs. Banning with out religious excemptions would be AGAINST OUR CONSTITUTION! I tell you what, if I lived in San Fransisco and this went through, I would be getting in touch with a lawyer!

Bartness, I wonder if it would become a human rights vs constitutional issue, though?
And which would take precedence in the end? It's a very interesting legal topic, I think.
And not trying to get you upset or anything, but lots of cultures would call female circumcision a religious tradition, yet that has been banned. That could be brought up as fairly strong precedent, I would think.

My stars, we Canadian girls are going to give our country quite the reputation, aren't we? :winkwink:

I hate the way that once something has to do with religion it becomes untouchable.
I don't really think that it should become illegal as in some cases (not most) it can have a medical benefit

I dont see why some folks get so upset over the fact baby boys are circumcised. Its been going on for centuries. Its a religious right for some (not me). Its been accepted in society forever, why all of a sudden force some crazy persons beliefs on the rest of the population. Leave it be, let the parents decide!

There is NO medical evidence saying circumcision is bad for a baby, and some doctors will NOT preform it for specific reasons. My friends son didnt get circed till 6 mths b/c his doctor said his penis would point left if they did it right away....

And just to say Female circumcision is nothing like circumcision of the penis. They are not comparable. So dont compare them.

same here. they infact tried to take him away to do it and i nearly screamed the room down at the nurse. i had already had it written into his notes that he wasnt to be circ'd and they STILL kept asking and then tried to take him away to do it. i was furious!
they apologised a bunch and said that it was so uncommon for someone to say no that they normally asked and then ok them because the mums always say yes. it further annoyed me because then asked if they information on circ's and why they arent medically necessary anymore so that people can make an informed decision if they are going to constantly ask if the parents are going ot have it done. they said no they dont provide information about it. and then the nurse tried to tell me it prevents AIDS. :dohh:
See this is what I am afraid of, were moving to the states at the end if the year and I'm terrified, should we have a boy, that they are going to circumsise my son without my consent. My husband who is American reasures me that they would have a really big lawsuit if they did it as they need parents written consent.

I said in the earlier part of the thread, majority of the men in the UK are not circumcised...... Yet they seem to manage just fine!! No hygiene problems. :flower:

:haha: Oh hun, the doctors don't just go stealing foreskins off newborns. Your pediatrician will come talk to you after they do the newborn check and then you have to sign a few consent forms. Otherwise there would be a major lawsuit. My pediatrician is great, gave me the facts and let the choice up to us. Did not try to tell us it will prevent AIDS :)dohh:) or that an uncirc'd one was 'dirtier'. May I ask where you are moving to?

There are many different forms of female circumcision. Some are very extreme and remove just about everything, others are nothing more than a ceremonial knife prick. And there are lots of other forms in between.
Regardless of gender, we are still talking about a ritual or procedure that permanently changes part of a person's body. I'm sorry if you are uncomfortable with the comparison, but I won't withdraw it.

I have no problem with female circumcision, either, if it was the woman's choice to do so.

That's the only thing I think this ban is trying to say - let the child choose what happens to his body. It's not saying that circumcision is evil and wrong. It's saying that it's a permanent thing to do to someone and if it's not medically necessary, then perhaps that person's right to choose for themselves is more important than social or religious custom.

Please understand that I am not calling you a bad parent or making a judgement on your choice. I am just looking at the bigger picture and asking if it is fair that the parents get to decide?
And just because something has been done "forever", as you put it, doesn't mean that it cannot or should not be questioned. Times change. society changes. It is important to ask ourselves questions about stuff like this. It can be a discussion. It doesn't have to be perceived as an attack. :flower:

I haven't read the thread but I can imagine whats been said. I don't get why people refuse to compare FGM and male circumcision. Yes they vary in terms of the degree of invasiveness (although some forms are similar) but they are still causing non-accidental physical pain. If making tribal facial marks is outlawed why is male circ any different. Parents are up in arms over ear piercings but tolerate male circ? When the latter is by far more invasive?

Well you never know!! Were moving to southern Cali in October! I can not wait any longer! :D

i think it should be banned to. they perform female circumsizion in some parts of africa and we all shudder at the thought. just cos its cultural or religious, doesnt make it ok.

I dont think your attacking me at all, I was refering to the people in San Fransisco. The ones that are actually putting it on the ballott. I just dont take it kindly when people tell me I cant make this decision.

I understand why you say let the boy decide when he's old enough, or do it if medically necessary. really I do, and if a law were to pass, I would follow it. I just wouldnt agree with it. (he'll Im not some crazy person, I WOULd NEVER let a person not medically trained, and in a medical facility, circumcise my child).

And just to let you all know in North Dakota I believe the circumcision rate is still at about 78% (apprently its also the highest rate in the USA). SO for me it is the Norm. I have a hard time understanding why so many people get upset about circumcision. I never even questioned not doing it. For me it was always going to be done. And to be honest, if I ever have another son he will be done as well.

I find it really creepy when people want to circ their son so their penis will look the same as daddies. Wiredos.

I dont think its "a crazy persons beliefs" because that would then make a lot of us crazy people and we're not. just because we believe something different to you? and just because its been accepted in society for many years, because they believed multiple benefits which have nearly all been proven to be false...we are suppose to just keep doing it "just coz" even though its not medically necessarily?

i mean that would be like saying all newborns should have their appendix removed as its not needed. but that surgery isnt medically necessary unless something is wrong. that should be the same with circ's. just because doctors say its not BAD for a baby, doesnt mean its good either. its just not necessary.

I don't think its a crazy persons beliefs either. Its not even a belief lol, its keeping it natural, how its supposed to be...
