I dont see why some folks get so upset over the fact baby boys are circumcised. Its been going on for centuries. Its a religious right for some (not me). Its been accepted in society forever, why all of a sudden force some crazy persons beliefs on the rest of the population. Leave it be, let the parents decide!
There is NO medical evidence saying circumcision is bad for a baby, and some doctors will NOT preform it for specific reasons. My friends son didnt get circed till 6 mths b/c his doctor said his penis would point left if they did it right away....
And just to say Female circumcision is nothing like circumcision of the penis. They are not comparable. So dont compare them.
There are many different forms of female circumcision. Some are very extreme and remove just about everything, others are nothing more than a ceremonial knife prick. And there are lots of other forms in between.
Regardless of gender, we are still talking about a ritual or procedure that permanently changes part of a person's body. I'm sorry if you are uncomfortable with the comparison, but I won't withdraw it.
I have no problem with female circumcision, either, if it was the woman's
choice to do so.
That's the only thing I think this ban is trying to say - let the child
choose what happens to his body. It's not saying that circumcision is evil and wrong. It's saying that it's a permanent thing to do to someone and if it's not medically necessary, then perhaps that person's right to choose for themselves is more important than social or religious custom.
Please understand that I am not calling you a bad parent or making a judgement on your choice. I am just looking at the bigger picture and asking if it
is fair that the parents get to decide?
And just because something has been done "forever", as you put it, doesn't mean that it cannot or should not be questioned. Times change. society changes. It is important to ask ourselves questions about stuff like this. It can be a discussion. It doesn't have to be perceived as an attack.
