Had to share as I find this very upsetting..

I got asked probably over 10 times while we were in the hospital by multiple dr's and nurses if I was going to have him circumcised....almost like they were shocked that I wasn't.

same here. they infact tried to take him away to do it and i nearly screamed the room down at the nurse. i had already had it written into his notes that he wasnt to be circ'd and they STILL kept asking and then tried to take him away to do it. i was furious!

they apologised a bunch and said that it was so uncommon for someone to say no that they normally asked and then ok them because the mums always say yes.

it further annoyed me because then asked if they information on circ's and why they arent medically necessary anymore so that people can make an informed decision if they are going to constantly ask if the parents are going ot have it done. they said no they dont provide information about it. and then the nurse tried to tell me it prevents AIDS. :dohh:

No way that is crazy!!! I asked one of the nurses if I had to do anything special to care for his penis (I already knew the answer, you should not try to pull the foreskin back it is actually attached to the penis until the baby is a little older) And she told me you have to pull it back, then said she was unsure and to ask his ped...:dohh: So I asked just to make sure and he told me no special cleaning instructions just to clean it like any other body part :) Another nurse told me you don't have to burp breastfed babies but thats another story lol

You had every right to be pissed off, and to scream the room down. No respetful hosptical/doctor/nurse should have tried pressuring you into circing your son when you had made it clear what your wishes were.

I am sorry you had to go through that.

WOAH! Whats going on over there in Mizzou?
Sounds like some psycho people working @ your hospital.

Are we allowed to be friends because we differ on circ views and I am a Husker fan and I'm assuming you may be a Mizzou fan???

of course we can be friends! im not a nasty person contrary to what people may think in this thread. circumcision is the one thing above most that i feel incredibly strongly about and i felt if i just laid all my cards out on the table straight up then theres no beating around the bush which i hate!

and no im not much a mizzou fan...but if we talk baseball...now the cardinals...:happydance:

PHEW!...

When you say cardinals for bball do you mean the LOUISVILLE cardinals?
because i was actually a cheerleader there in college

I agree. :haha: I think sometimes you just have to learn that some people cannot discuss certain topics together. I have learned that circumcision is not a topic we see eye to eye on and we should best avoid that topic. I should not be in the debate section because I get way too involved, then I come back and have to apologize. Sorry if I caused offense Pepsichic, I get a little hormonal when referring to my choices for my child.

Also, I do not appreciate being told my actions are sickening because someone else does not agree with my parenting choices. There are ways to get your point across without being nasty. People are entitled to their opinion, they are not entitled to be assholes.

i know your probably aiming that at my post (if not never mind) but your choosing to take it personally. i havent targeting you. or anyone else. I think its a sickening horrible thing to do. im not saying your a sickening horrible person so dont take it that way. but i will still stand by my opinion on how i feel about circumcision.

Absolutely it was pointed at your post. How am I and all other mothers and fathers who have chosen to circumcise their son's, not suppose to take that personally? Raising a child is personal. You have targeted every parent who has made that choice, how do you not see that?

^this

it's very strange because I feel like in the US theres hardly even a debate about circs.
In fact, this is the first article I've ever seen about it in the US.

BTW, I've never seen an uncircumcised penis.

At the risk of making myself sound like a skank  I've seen both! And to be honest, I really don't have a preference. :haha:

but what would you DO with a circumsized one ..i just .. dont .. get .. it.

Another skanky Albertan here who thinks both styles of penis are A-okay!
I had no idea that we had a 43% circ rate in our province, though! Seriously? In the middle of cowboy country?

So now that I've given my sexual approval of either type of penis, I would still support a ban on circumcising infants without medical reason. I think it should be the boy's choice. Maybe the age of consent to have it done could be brought down a little? Does it need to be 18? If we are talking about having it done as part of affirmation that you accept and follow certain tenets of your religion, maybe it should happen when you are considered a man? So, what if it happens after your Bar Mitzvah, or something like that? That way, tradition is upheld, but a child's right to decide what happens to his own body is also respected.
Just a thought?

And that whole thing about circumcision "preventing" AIDS is dangerously incorrect.
Circumcised men had less incidence of transmission during some studies that were done a couple of years ago in Africa. BIG difference between that and telling someone "oh now you're circumcised so you won't get STIs". The posted article stated that incorrectly and the nurse that was quoted in the hospital story was incorrect, too. I think that is a very very dangerous miscommunication there. Risk reduction does not = prevention.

no no the st louis cardinals for baseball! not college teams.

I think the ban is a step in the right direction and hope the rest of the world follows suit.

See this is what I am afraid of, were moving to the states at the end if the year and I'm terrified, should we have a boy, that they are going to circumsise my son without my consent. My husband who is American reasures me that they would have a really big lawsuit if they did it as they need parents written consent.

I said in the earlier part of the thread, majority of the men in the UK are not circumcised...... Yet they seem to manage just fine!! No hygiene problems. :flower:
