Had to share as I find this very upsetting..

I havent read all the replies on here cos its a bit long lol..

My OH had his removed because of problems going wee when he was a small boy. Not everyone has it done for religion..

Also, its a part of religion, we read so much in the papers like we cant call Christmas, Christmas and we cant wear our religious pendants but its ok to change the rules of another religion.

I dont agree with it but its stopping people believing in their religion. You cant play with someones faith.

Sorry OT but not calling Christmas by its true name is nothing to do with people of other religions but instead Woolly liberals (usually white of no religious affiliation) in town hall who have nothing better to do but to make up guidelines which they say will prevent offence to others. The gentleman who nearly got sacked for having a small palm cross in his car recently got some of the biggest support from Muslim and Sikh groups....

Of course a site that is anti-c will have the worst possible video examples to back up their cause, its very naive to think these videos (and I have seen some in the past) are representative of most circs carried out in the US and other countries.

Yes but its a point that we shouldnt change religion. No matter if we like it or not. We dont have to support it but its someone elses religion so thats the point I was making.

Of course they do!! It's a terrible thing to have done, to a poor little baby.

people say by making it law its taking aay the rights of the parent, to make it THEIR decision to circ their sons...but if you follow a religion that requires it...then are they not making that choice for you?

honestly like i said before i dont think religion is a good enough reason.

videos are gross...can't believe someone could do that to a baby, let alone let someone do it to their baby. :(

I have to say, I am happy that a law is proposed and I hope it goes through. It used to be a rite to stone people once upon a time but we have evolved from that. I am all for any law that protects children

So its ok to change a religion? I dont think thats fair.

Absolutely. Religion, just like the law, is an insititution and alot of decisions that are made on the basis of religion are not infact made by the parent, but by the religious founders/figureheads etc.

True. I think in a few decades, male circumcision will be completely outlawed. As society evolves the law will evolve accordingly.

I seriously can't believe circumcision is still accepted as a "right", be it religious or of choice. It's shockingly unnecessary and archaic. This potential ruling has been a long time coming and let's hope in a few generations it'll be unheard of and outdated.

i just think of it like this, id be fuming if my mum came to my house saying right im ur mother and i want to trim ur labia! shed get knocked out lol so why would i do something like that to my son. its his pinky his business

Oh no its ok to do it when they're an innocent baby cos they don't get the chance to have a choice :(

:(

even tho i dont want to think about how bad my boys will be when they are older (zanes already a ladies man much like his father) it is their sexual organ and i do not want to no what they do with it so i dont want to change it in anyway.

long as they listen to me and keep it clean and also check for lumps which is very important to me thats as far as ile go

And just as you ladies can't imagine doing it to a baby I can't imagine not. There was no question of whether or not we would do it and if our insurance didn't cover it we would have paid out of pocket to get it done. And if I am blessed enough to have another boy he will have it done too. When I told my family members about the proposed ban they were outraged and could not believe they would even put it on the ballot. There is not one man in my family or DHs family that is not circd. My husband said he would have been so angry with his mother had she not had it done.

Just goes to show the culture is different. I don't see it as mutilation and never will. Those videos were nothing like how it really is. I think LO cried more when he had his diaper taken off then when they did the circ.

but WHY did you have it done? because it sounds like its a "just because"
"just because everyone else in the family is circ'd"
"just because its normal"

its not normal, and whats wrong with doing something against the grain? all of my Oh's family is circ'd (males only) and his son isnt circ'd now. and we hope that continues down the line, because circumcision "just because" is a silly reason/excuse to chop of someones skin.

ur oh sounds abit childish if hed be mad at his mum for not doing it when as a adult could easily do it himself.

but the question i pose to anyone who does something to change their babies body is would u be ok if ur mum came to u right now and said she was going to trim ur labia? i think ud have something to say about that.

yes ur son is fine and might not even be bothered about u doing this, but i believe just because u gave birth to him shouldnt give u the right to change his body when it is infact his body not urs

 Exactly my thoughts, moomin.
This is the point that ban is trying to make: let the individual involved make the decision about his own body. It's not saying that circumcision is banned completely - it is proposing a ban on the practise of doing this to infants.
Why is that so threatening?
If it is culturally important to someone, it can still be done - when the baby is of age and consensual.
