Had to share as I find this very upsetting..

I assume for medical reasons they use some kind of pain relief, i dont think they do for religious purposes.

There is a difference between doing something you have to that causes pain and doing something because your religion or culture tells you rp

They used pain relief for my son to have it done and it was not done for a medical or religious reason... :flower:

I'm personally against circumcision, however, I think a law that bans it altogether is too extreme, especially with no exceptions for religious purposes.

I agree with the ban however if someone felt very strongly about it would they take it into their own hands?

One of the first things I wondered when I read the article

religion really is dangerous imo but why cant they wait till they are older so they can decide themselves? its barbaric whether its done with pain relief or not :(

if it wasnt for medical or religious reasons then why did u have it done?

because if its for "cosmetic" reasons i find it abit odd really seen as its something a mother has nothing to do with past a certain age

My boys are all circumcised; for religion and hygeine reasons; my family are not Muslim or Jewish but several family members have said they think that male circumcision is better than uncircumcised and they don't see why its such a social taboo in this country. I would have considered circumcising my boys even if I was not Muslim. BTW all my boys were circumcised by a specialist; who used a local anaesthetic beforehand, my youngest cried less than when he has had blood tests and only one drop of blood came out, and later on that day and then onwards he was absolutely fine, there are methods these days that involve very little actual cutting, pain or bloodloss. We had to pay a lot of money for this but it was worth it. In the US most circumcision is carried out in hospitals shortly after birth. I would not dream of doing anything to hurt my sons. Female genital mutilation is a cultural practice and not a religious one, in many countries it is found predominantly amongst Christians or pagans, that dates back at least 3000 years; it has absolutely no hygeine benefit, no religious basis (though you will find Christians and Muslims who are illiterate claiming it does; and in the past it was practiced by Ethiopian Jews as well) and it is a relic of times where putting youngsters who lived in extremely harsh climates and conditions through intense physical pain and suffering was seen to help them reach adulthood.

I think it should be banned.

Just because something is based in a religious belief or custom, doesn't make it right.

I have never seen a circumcised penis in real life and find the idea repulsive and just weird. It's not normal! The penis is meant to have a foreskin right?

Many different reasons. I believe in the hygenic pros of it, less chance of infection to the partner, etc. And I know most people will come back with "It is no more hygenic than a non circ'd if you teach them to wash properly" but I have never really known any children to learn the importance of hygenie until an older age. In fact my mom STILL has to make sure my brother (7yrs) wipes after he goes to the bathroom regardless of trying to drill the importance in his head.

My husband is circ'd so he felt very very very strongly about it. There was no question about it. We didn't even need to discuss it. He had it done when he was 4 weeks old by a urologist. My husband said he would have hated his mom if she had not gotten it done for him and therefore there was no way we weren't.

Whether there is any hygiene benefits to male circumcism also seems to be debatable tbh

My brother's wife was Jewish (she converted to Catholicism after marrying my brother) and they got my nephew circumcised at the hospital before leaving so that they wouldn't get pressure from her family to have a bris. I understand their reasons for it but still found it odd that they had it done as my brother isn't circ'd.

its the whole "hygeine reasons" side of getting a baby circ that actualy really gets on my nerves!

if u are a clean person then it doesnt matter what skin u have down there and if ur a dirty person being circed of not wont chage that and u cud still get infections

As there is with any scientific viewpoint; it depends on which studies you believe; I personally believe those that say it does have hygeine benefits.

Perhaps for hygeine, we should all have our teeth removed as they show through (after all, it would prevent potential tooth decay?).

I dunno...to me it just seems so weird. To remove the part of an infants body for no logical reason other than "dad had it done" or "I think it will give him a cleaner penis" just doesn't compute with me.

i wouldn't let anyone near my baby witha scalpel unless absolutely critically necessary. Simple.

id worry that my son would hate me for just messing with him. i think ur ohs words are very strong as if he wanted it done it could get it done himself if he wasnt circ's already.

i duno its a very strange subject, its like the whole piercing a babies ear argument lol

Ways wrong with a slightly dirty Willy anyway. Ive never known anyone circumcised and have never heard of any infections or problems

Majority of the male population in the UK are not circumcised.......... Yet they seem to manage just fine with hygiene........ Just saying.

I know all the guys I've been with were good to go Lol!

I also would like to address the mutilation arguement. When I hear of someone being mutilated I think of gore, blood, etc. For the circ there was little if ANY blood, he didn't cry, he was not bothered by it at all. It looks very clean and neat and there was no issues.

but that's the problem. you csnt use religion to justify one thing but not snother because your not comfortable with it.
