Had to share as I find this very upsetting..

I also would like to address the mutilation arguement. When I hear of someone being mutilated I think of gore, blood, etc. For the circ there was little if ANY blood, he didn't cry, he was not bothered by it at all. It looks very clean and neat and there was no issues.
But it's still someone slicing into skin with a knife and removing it?

I support the ban unless on medical grounds

When I was pregnant the thought of an episiotomy TERRIFIED me. I wouldn't want anyone cutting me down there so I'd never let someone cut him down there. I wouldn't do anything to my child that I wouldn't want done to myself.

I respect other people's religions and to be honest I am still unsure of the actual reasons why people circumcise for religion (I know Lellow and others have explained this well before but it was a long time ago) so I am unsure of how I feel about it (I don't feel I should judge what I don't understand). I hope there will be a ban placed on circumcision for cosmetic reasons as I believe it should only be performed for religious and medical purposes.

For any other reason, besides medical, I am definitely against circumcision. i was thinking this myself!.....ouch

It was done the plastibel method... so no slicing!

On a lighter note does the tinkle not get a bit chilly without its hat :)

I joke honestly

I wouldn't have a son circ but i have nothing against anyone who does for religious reasons.

Re the pain argument, I don't believe that babies show discomfort even when they are experiencing it sometimes, and I think it's pretty obvious that circumcision would hurt at the time and afterwards.

Oli banged his tooth against the bath today and his gum bled, he whimpered for a moment, but then forgot despite the fact it bled for 5 minutes or so. Despite his reaction it would be naive to say it didn't hurt him and I'm pretty sure it will still be tender now. Just because a baby doesn't scream and cry it doesn't mean it doesn't hurt.

What's that then if you don't mind me asking? I should say by the way that i'm against it for me and my boy, i don't know enough about it to comment on a ban which is why i haven't said anything directly about that.

Maybe we should invaid a male forum (is there such a thing) and get them to weigh in!

Completely agree. I've often worried that charlie might have that disorder that means he can't feel pain! (i know he doesn't by the way, it just surprises me how quickly distraction works)

skin is removed however its done and then for them to pee must sting like a bitch. i saw something only quickly on tv where a adult male had it done and he was in pain after.....it was very sensitive

Plastibell is inserted over glans and the foreskin is pulled forward, over the "bell" String is tied in the Plastibell's groove and foreskin is cut off with scissors. Plastibell's handle is snapped off. This completes the procedure. In about 5 days, the remaining foreskin front of string will die, allowing the bell to come off the penis, completing the circumcision.

So there is the cutting of the foreskin, but not mutilation in my eyes.

Edit: Though it is not mutilation in MY eyes I will not claim my opinion is the right one. I respect everyone that says that is is mutilation as that is their opinion on the matter.

I don't think I have the right to put my son through a painful procedure that will give him absolutely no benefit at any point in his life. I hate it when people say they want him to look like his daddy too, I think that's a bit odd.
