Had to share as I find this very upsetting..

Re the pain argument, I don't believe that babies show discomfort even when they are experiencing it sometimes, and I think it's pretty obvious that circumcision would hurt at the time and afterwards.

Oli banged his tooth against the bath today and his gum bled, he whimpered for a moment, but then forgot despite the fact it bled for 5 minutes or so. Despite his reaction it would be naive to say it didn't hurt him and I'm pretty sure it will still be tender now. Just because a baby doesn't scream and cry it doesn't mean it doesn't hurt.

I have to disagree with this, my LO screamed and cried during his heel prick and cried out for a few days after if it was bothered with. That being said, my son is circ'd and besides a little whining the first day during diaper changes, he never seemed bothered by it.

My opinion is that even though the chances are small to get an infection, I would much prefer him to go through as a newborn than older. A facebook friends posted that her 6 month ended up needing circ'd (i am not sure of the reasoning) and he has been in horrible pain for over a week because he wants to be crawling or bouncing around and it hurts. I could not imagine being a grown man needing it done when an average man gets several erections in his sleep alone.

Also, I do not appreciate being told my actions are sickening because someone else does not agree with my parenting choices. There are ways to get your point across without being nasty. People are entitled to their opinion, they are not entitled to be assholes.

I think it's important to understand that it is impossible to fully understand a religion that is not your own. Every time that you study another religion, no matter how hard you try to look at things objectively, you will always hit a sort of stone wall that is your own personal biases and opinions. Many people feel that it is crucial for their sons to be circumcised, and it may be hard to understand that feeling if you're looking at it from the outside. As long as circumcisions are done in a medically safe environment, I really do not see a justification for banning it. Freedom of religion is a really important feature of many modern societies. This may not be a big deal to some people who feel so strongly about not circumcising their own children, but a follower of other faiths where the practice is routinely done would see this quite differently.

haven't read the whole thread yet.
But breezy, you made a mistake posting this type of thread on this forum :haha:

The majority of the members on this forum are not from the US, where circs are very common and accepted.

Personally, I think it's weird they would ban it.
I think as a parent you should be able to choose if you want to circ or not.

I'm afraid if they banned it in the US some crazy people would go ahead and do it anyway...making it super unsafe for the baby.

I would also like to add that circumcision ban may pass in San Francisco but the likelihood of it sweeping the nation is very slim.
So if you don't like it...don't like in San Fran I guess

Absolutely it was pointed at your post. How am I and all other mothers and fathers who have chosen to circumcise their son's, not suppose to take that personally? Raising a child is personal. You have targeted every parent who has made that choice, how do you not see that?

WOW!
Just read through this entire thread and I have to admit i am VERY VERY offended!
I'm actually fuming at some of the posts I've read in here.
IMO, some of your are being really ignorant comparing male circumcision to female mutilation.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but the nastiness is NOT okay!

OP-I feel sorry for you because I feel as if some of the replies were very rude and attacking toward you.
:hugs:

^this

it's very strange because I feel like in the US theres hardly even a debate about circs.
In fact, this is the first article I've ever seen about it in the US.

BTW, I've never seen an uncircumcised penis.

At the risk of making myself sound like a skank  I've seen both! And to be honest, I really don't have a preference. :haha:

brunette, with your gorgeous little baby, please don't be offended. The posts aren't personal and the more contraversial posts (yes you pepsi you little devil you!) are definitely very strongly worded but are attacking the practice not the people. Everyone is entitled to their opinion including people who are passionate, but i hate to think of you sat there hurting because of it x

I circumcised my son. I did it, and I never ever considered NOT doing it. I have never seen a NON-circed penis. And I never will see one. Where I come from its the NORM. MY OH i is circed, my dad, my brothers, my nephews and all of my male cousins. And I will admit as well, ITS NOT for religious reasons at all.

what really pisses me off, is banning it for religious purposes! Wasnt AMERICA founded FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOMS?!? The pligrims came here to ESCAPE religious persecution in Britan! I think banning circumcision for reglious reasons is against the constitution of the United States. Ban it for other reasons, which Im against, BUT DO NOT ban it for religious reasons!

Oh so now we're getting country-ist are we?! :winkwink: i don't think it's fair comment to say US and canada are less judgemental, it's not common practice over here so more shocking. Trust me, the UK is not a saintly perfect population, google jeremy kyle! Xx

O/T...But Mrs.Thomas where are you from in Ohio

I attended college at University of Louisville in KY
and often visited Cinci on the odd weekend.

Ok, that was a little bit of a jab as I was irritated... now seen quoted back to me... it may have been a little immature. whoops! :haha: I take it back!

id worry that my son would hate me for just messing with him. i think ur ohs words are very strong as if he wanted it done it could get it done himself if he wasnt circ's already.

i duno its a very strange subject, its like the whole piercing a babies ear argument lol

Exactly what I was thinking! My son is not circ'd I felt it should be up to him he can make his own decision on the matter.

Most people that get all huffy about getting girls ears pierced saying they wont do it because it should be their choice (which very well it should) wouldn't think twice about getting their son circumcised. You can take out earrings but you cant just magically re-grow skin. Just my 2 cents!

I've been to Nebraska once...my cousin lives in Hastings!
