Hi Everyone!

Ive recently been advised by my HV to try my LO on Cow & Gate Comfort as she was rather unsettled and twisty (sometimes crying as if in pain) after every feed and would projectile vomit at least once a day/sometimes every other day if we fed her less, but was also quite sick after every feed, so HV suspects possible reflux.

Has/is anyone using this??

We started her on it yesterday evening and she has seemed a little more settled but has vomited [projectile] twice and has been rather sickly with pretty much all of her feeds. is it normal for her to be more sick? i thought it was supposed to help with that!?

Also in regards to making up the feeds, it says on the box to boil the water and to leave to cool for 30 mins then add powder which ive done and seems fine except the grainy bits which seems to settle in the bottom when left standing, i googled it to make sure i was doing it right as she is now not very consistent with the amount she takes each feed and i thought perhaps its because i havent mixed it right and she not getting the full benefits [with Cow & Gate 1 she was havin 4oz, now she either doesnt finish her bottle or will finish it and go mad for more and then sometimes vomit!] What ive read is that this particular milk has to be made up differently [altho on the box the instructions are exactly the same as Cow & Gate 1?!] and most people say to make it up with fresh boiled water, might be just me and my dopey brain but is that not just boiled water not left to cool at all? i also read somewhere that the way it says on the box is incorrect?!

Any advice would be much appreciated!
I have tried the Cow & Gate website but it has no more info than the box and the live chat for advice is only open mon - fri!

We're using comfort too for the same reasons. We have found that his feeds are a little more irregular , but we feed baby led anyway so it's not been such an inconvenience. I think the sickness is normal unfortunately, we get that too. But I'd rather have pain free sicky than how it previously was. Try and stick with it, it really is good milk.

And, any change in milk can make a baby sickly at first, so that's something to bare in mind.

Oh, and to mix the bottles I boil the water and leave it to stand until it's cool enough to not melt the bottles. Then we fill the bottles for the day with the water and warm up each one as we need it, THEN we add the formula. It doesn't give the crystals time to settle then.

I've also discovered lo is a little less sicky if the bottle is a little warmer than room temp. Think it's a bit easier in the tummy

Thanks for ur reply! im definatley gonna stick with it as she seems more settled between feeds and actually has some good sleeps which she didnt before! and when i make my bottle up with cooled water the crystals are there when ive finished mixing it up, i did make a bottle with fresh boiled water as a test run and there was very few in that bottle even when left to stand for awhile! ive also been keein some hot water near by tp keep the bottle warm when windin her which helps a little with the bits! You dont happen to know what the crytsl bits are do you?

I've had to move my little on to this too - it took a couple of days for her to settle, she had explosive nappies and projectile vomiting on the sma gold. We are also using infant gaviscogne for suspected reflux which has helped with the vomiting. Still a little windy baby though - but she is only a month today so hopefully that will ease with time...

Fingers crossed for you hope it does the trick! My LO has become very windy at the bottom end! she's always seemed to get her wind out that way (hardly ever burps!) but now it's all the time and stinky! Haha

we used this from about 4 weeks with my LO. Currently we are moving back to stage 1 as i think he has grown out of his problems.

I make it with hotter water, i don't leave it for 30 mins more like 15. Give it a good shake, a really good shake, i forgot how hard i actually do shake it until i was making up the stage 1 milk and shook it in the same way. If it settles, i find when its being warmed back up if you swirl it a bit, it seems ok and ive not had any problems. If you make it fresh that doesn't seem to be a problem but its not very convenient.

^WSS. I always made up comfort with the hottest water my bottles could withstand xx

Thanks for your replies! Seems like most people make it up with hotter water, I'm gonna give it a whirl and see how it goes! :D

We went onto it due to consitpation and gassy on cow and gate first milk... things seemed better the first week but the second week he became very sicky on it, explosive nappies once a day which he really struggled to pass even though they were green liquid, and generally he just became rather narky. I decided to send my fella out to try some hipp organic and he accidently got the hungry baby one.... thought we would try it anyway and it has been a week now and he poo's atleast twice a day, gets his wind up easy and is much happier! So, every baby is different and mine seems better with hipp organic x
