heya ladies.. and gents if there is any around!!
so ive decided to use cloth with my baby once he is here but im trying to think of what to do in regards to my washer .. it comes with the house we are renting but i dont use the powder draw because whenever i do the washing never smells that clean when its try its like it doesnt get through the wash properly! so i stick my fairy non boi liquid tabs in with my washing which woks fine... obviously i cannot put a tab in with nappies as it would be too much detergant not the 1/4 dose needed for cloth... so my question is can i put the dose of powder in with the nappies in the drum? i was thinking of doing a cold rinse and then a normal hot wash with 1/4 powder and then an extra rinse or 2... would this work or shall i buy the gel stuff that you put in the lid and wash the nappies with that?.. or is there anything else you lovely people can suggest

I would suggest using ecoballs or soap nuts as they just go in the drum with your fluff and you'll get no detergent build up :) x

Its fine to put the powder in the drum :)

What tulip said! Much cheaper too x x x

I use ariel bio gel in the drum...unfortunately soap nuts don't work as our water is super hard :(

thankyou :) all makes no sense when youve not done this before  so i take it with ecoballs you dont have to do a rinse at the end of a wash either? wheras you do if you use powder on nappies?

No I don't do an extra rinse. I use a magnoball to combat our hard water.

You should be fine putting it in the drum with the nappies but I would try to get the washing machine sorted out before doing that. If it smells when you use the detergent drawer it sounds like there's some nasty scum somewhere in there that needs sorting. Can your landlord not help, or maybe try some of the washing machine cleaning stuff you can buy?

Maybe put some soda crystals in your drawer (when the washer is off and empty) and wash them down with boiling water from the kettle? Or pour a load of white vinegar down there?
Also put the washer on the longest, hottest wash you can - it wont clear out the pipe running from the drawer to the drum, but will clean the rest of it out.

Gels and liquids leave residue in your diapers, so stick to powder or one of the other things people have already mentioned (like soap nuts).

We use a top loader and throw the powder straight in with the clothes, so it should be fine and dandy in a front loader I would assume. :)

We do cold rinse, add detergent, warm wash and two cold rinses. :)
