Cranberry, you may find hand expressing the best way to collect colostrum, as you usually can't get loads each time, so some may get lost in the tubing of a pump. Also, if you wanted breastmilk in the house for backup, check out HM4HB.

yeah the plan with the pump rly was just to get things going,i have no idea if itll work but i reckon it cant hurt. i looked into using the milk bank here as its all screened etc but they only supply to hospitals/SCBU. tbh i think its very unlikely that we'll need formula but will get some anyway just in case - better than transferring for a drip.

any babies yet?!

hun if im a milk machine by then im happy to send some extra colustrum your way i can express it off and freeze it if you could get someone to collect it and take it up to you.
HM4HB is a great network you might find someone local.
And from my experience expressing colustrum for Nate in the SCBU then it was much easier to collect with one of the mini medicine syringes or little cup than in a pump it wasnt till my milk came in that i started pumping for him

I just sent off my email to MotherWit, a local doula association, whoo hooo! I told OH I was refusing to have another baby unless he guaranteed me a birth/postpartum doula I hear back in 24 hours hopefully!

Im so glad that I booked my doula super early as we've been able to find out about each other slowly rather than just at a few formal meetings. Really its the best money Ive ever spent, I was a bit unsure to start with as I wondered if it was a bit expensive, but shes done so much more than the tangible birth plans etc.

She'll probably put her prices up once Im ready for the next one as shes a trainee at the moment but its been so worth it Id pay double!

Baby P arrived at 17:05 weighing a teeny 6lbs 12 ozs! She is beautiful and feeding well. I had a brilliant home birth and only called the midwives an hour before she was born. She arrived when they'd been there 35 minutes! Did it all drug free and in the water. They were great, really hands off and really respected my wishes. Couldn't have gone better (except maybe being a bit shorter!). I'll upload some piccies tomorrow. I remembered to get DH to take one in the pool . She doesn't have a name yet as we were so sure she'd be a boy even though we were team yellow! She is nursing like a champ, knew exactly what she was doing and is currently laying on my chest. No wonder she needed a little more time, being so dinky!

ok gross question. when youre in a birthing pool do you have to get out for a wee? I know its wee and I wouldnt pee in a bath, but really, theres so much other crap floating about in the water is a bit of wee going to make a difference?

I'd get out of the pool but i didnt need a wee at all during labour Too much going on down there to go for one

The midwives told me to wee in there to help deliver the placenta! So, er, I did!
