Home education/schooling

no we applied for a school place because hes been at school for the first half of this term and we just moved to a different area and were going to put him back in school and the middle one in nursery as daddy will be working from home 2 days a week and can watch the baby so i could get a job for those days

I'm going to home school my daughter whilst working part time. She is only 11months old now but i read and talk to her as much as possible. How did you help your baby along at this age??, some tips would be awesome.

just do what you do anyway. Interacting and playing is important now. If you think about it everyone home schools at that age :) play is important in learning in early days.

at 11 months i just talk through what they are playing with telling them about it and praising them, reading to them and spending quality time with them

A lot of parents do the drumming in to the head of numbers and alphabets and sadly it makes kids get fed up learning or causes them annoyance and be a put off with learning in future *some not all kids* I think they want their kids to not fail in school so its pressure . Theres no comp with home school , which is what I like about it. The pressure is removed.

my kids beg for me to work through letters and numbers, play matching games with them my eldest would spend all day practicing his writing if i let him, i need new dry erase markers though

Thats great, get in there, Williams all volcanoes and space at the moment. :) I know some that torture their kids with it. (speaking form personal povs),

Yup, we're all space&volcanos too lol. My daughter loves workbooks though which makes life easy, but doesnt want to know about science. Her answer for how scinece work is 'magic' or better still 'fairies' (mind you they were in a waldorf kindy for a while...and we read lot of steiner type stories he he)That's the great thing about home Ed, being able to cater for the individual child :) x

Hi does anyone know my lo has never been to nursery or used any of the funded hours do you still get sent the school application packs or will we not be on there system.

In theory yes, but it depends on how efficient your LA are. My son had never been in any kind of childcare and we still got a school application pack for him. It's done by all children registered with a GP or HV. Sometimes people do slip through the cracks if they've moved or been missed off, but going/not going to nursery has nothing to do with it.

If you do get one do you just not fill it in or do you have to contact the council? Hopefully we will slip through as we have most other things were in a massive area of lots of city's for one town. I know they have moved on to online applications now.

Here they dont sent you an application pack, you either do it online or apply for a pack.

Just don't fill it in. :)

I know lots of only child single parent home edders. I've not seen any blogs though. The lids have loads of social aspects the meet a few times at week at home school meets share tutors done go to forest school classes tge gp swimming lessons ballets rainbows beavers ect. Im sure the social
Aspect wouldn't be a problem

My best friend is now a single parent and home educates her three children, so it's possible, at least at the moment. However, when Universal Credits is introduced next year it will more or less mean that single parents won't be entitled to any benefits (council, housing, tax credits, etc.) once their children are all school aged unless they fulfil the work requirements, so you would almost certainly have to work part-time. Self employment is a possibility as long as you are earning enough, so that might be something you want to start planning.

Universal credit starts coming in next year for new claims, but it will take until 2017 for everyone to be transferred across, so hopefully you have more time to figure it out.

Why not look into becoming a childminder? Work from home and social interaction all rolled in together!
