It's all art. First of all the body is designed and sculpted by hand, they just make kits from the original. Then they weight the body, put layers upon layers of pain on them to make their skin look real, insert hairs one at a time... it takes weeks.

Sounds like a lot of work then. I can see the appeal of making one..or at least a baby one as a hobby as im quite arty but i just cant see the appeal in buying a child sized one and having it in my home! I think some of the baby ones are beautiful and very real and could see a lucky little girl treasuring that as a doll. Even maybe someone that collects dolls but i do remember that programme where the woman took out her baby reborn and put it in a car seat????? yeh...a bit odd really!

I love reborn babies, although the older child one looks beautiful i wouldn't like it in my house. Waking up in the middle of the night to that standing over me!

I have a reborn baby made to look like my first baby that died, he lays on a shelf in the living room. So many have walked in and thought i have a real baby on the shelf! lol

I have also made a couple of babies, gave one to my 11 year old last year for Christmas.

This is how the kits come... you then paint it in layers and have to root the hair one strand at a time. Takes ages.

Thank you for sharing that. I think you did well with the one for your dd. Its cute. Sounds like its a lot of work to make one so well done I think the baby ones are lovely....as dolls or even keepsakes. Its the older ones i find a bit creepy to look at. x
