Ok so how often do you formula feed your baby? Do you stick to what it says on the pack? For instance for a baby that is 2 - 4 weeks old, it says 4 scoops and 120 mls of water 5 times a day, my baby eats up to 9 times a day, he usually has 90 mls, but sometimes 120 mls and even on occasions only 60 mls (when he is being lazy). So it got me thinking does anyone feed their baby the amount it says on the packet?

5 times a day doesnt seem like much to me, if he did feed 5 times a day I'd get alot more sleep!!!

I go by whatever my son wants and follow his lead. I give him his bottle and if he still seems hungry I'll make a couple ounces more and give it to him. Usually he sticks to the same amount now, but I really dont think you can go by those things since all babies are different. Mine has 6-7 ounces 5 times a day

the chart on the pack is just a guide. When my baby was your LOs age he was having 1 - 1.5oz every 3 hrs every day and night

bella's fed on demand, so we've never gone what's on the tub :)
xx

I feed on demand as well...but that chart is just a guideline.

I have always fed Carter what he wants never even bothered to look at my package.

I fed on demand too, if i'd of followed the tin he would of cried 99% of the time lol. x

I feed on demand. He won't take more than 4-5 oz at a time. He likes to snack. If I try to give him a bigger bottle, he'll just spit it up.

Hi, my baby is 7 weeks old and I pretty much feed her every 4 hours (except at night)...the charts say that at 2 months she should feed 5 times a day but her weight is only 8lbs7 (which on the pack is a 2 week old weight and thats 6 feeds) and recently she started drinking less and only having 5 feeds in 24hrs so I told the health visitor that I was going to feed her every 3 hrs as her weight wasnt following the red book chart and she now seems to be getting more into her. There is a rule of thumb that says that a baby should take 2 or 3 ounces per pound of body weight per day. This would make my babs need between 17 - 24 ounces in 24 hours, so thats roughly 3 or 4 ounces per feed (based on 6 feeds a day) or 3.5 - 5 ounces roughly if its based on 5 feeds per day. Hope this helps. Happy Christmas x

Ava made her own routine quite early on.

At the moment she has 8oz every four-ish hours (9am, 12.30pm, 4pm & 8pm)
So according to the tin (Cow & Gate Comfort) she is feeding the same as a 6 month old!

We are led by Holly. At the min she takes around 6oz (sometimes a bit less) every 3-4hrs, thats 180mls, 6 scoops. At night she goes between 4-5hrs and we have cartons (as they are easier) as there is more in them she will often take a bit more, sometimes around 200mls.
The charts on the tins are so generic, I think they just pick what is seen as an ideal, but as we all know, babies will choose their own ideal!!

Macy is almost 7 weeks and takes only 2-3oz every 3 hours. Her weight gain isn't very good though and she's now down on the 1st centile! I tried feeding 2hourly to see if it made a difference but she was barely interested and I tried waiting 4hours to see if she could get really hungry and take a larger feed but she just screams!
