How widespread is bacterial contamination of powdered infant formula?

I just wanted to have my quick say...

In my opinion I think this thread would have been better received and responded to if it was posted by a formula feeding mum who had come across the article and was trying to alert other FFs to it.

As it was posted by a BF, who according to her website is a 'natural childbirth and breastfeeding advocate... done some volunteer work as a peer counselor with WIC and thinking about becoming an LLL leader and eventually an IBCLC', I really think there was nothing but malice in the thread being started.

I don't understand why someone who is SO PRO-BF would even care what is going on on the FF board..

We are all intelligent enough to care for our babies thankyou very much.

wow!! i never realised there was such animosity and all out war between BF and FF on here!! makes me quite worried to get involved when my LO turns up.

i have done both before anyone jumps down my throat. im neither one camp or the other. im all for women making the right decision for them at the time with theirselves and LO's best interests at heart. nothing more.

i am however confused slightly......the preperation of feeds has changed so much over the last few years. just like everything to do with raising children. dont sleep on backs, do sleep on backs. weaning at 4mths, nothing till 6mths. when i had my first child you made a whole days worth of feeds up with boiling water and allowed to cool before fridging them. then with DD2 its all changed to making them up as you go. which lets face it is not practical in the middle of the night when LO is screaming the whole house down.

i feel sorry for any young new mum/dad without any form of support from family and friends who reads this. all it will do is confuse them even more IMO. and the arguing about it all wont help either.

I dont get the point of this at all, its only going to cause upset..im off to sterilize a banana before i get annoyed :)

eta: the fact that the original post has been 'thanked' by bfers shows its true intent imo

Personally i think the OP knows exactly why she started this thread and in my opinion it wasnt for the right reasons!!!!!!!!!! People who FF have a hard enough time as it is and i feel the use of scare tatics is not the way to go about supporting them.

Why do people who FF "have a hard enough time of it"? I don't understand t, surely we do whats right for us and thats that!! We're doing nothing wrong so why on earth should you feel guilty for feeding your LOs? OK, i did at the start but thats only because I was so adament on BFing. Now tho, I see my O as a happy, healthy baby!!

I was the first to thank the OP and I'm a FF'er!!!

Well I'm a FF gal and I saw it as being given info on formula and therefore being able to ensure you make it up in the safest possible way? I must be mad tho as it seems this lady actually said we're poisoning our babies apparently!?!

I'm calling troll. Been a member 2 days and so far targeted formula feeding, circumcision, non au-natural births. Each time just dropped links or a quote and stood back for a reaction.

Removed some of her threads, but thought I would mention it here as the thread is still active.
