I've started to become really confused about this!

At the moment i'm a student and well i will be part-time from now so i know i'm entitled to income support. I was told that the income support money is less because they take child benefit money off the income support for the amount you need to live on etc.

Is this true? Surely you would need more to live on as you have a dependant? I just automatically thought it would be around £60 income support and £20 child benefit a week or am i completely wrong?

everyone get child benifit and its £20 a week so thats £80 a month i dont think benifits will effect that.

i have recently rung up about income support and not sure which way round it is but you get about £50 a week for you then £60 a week for a dependant. im not 100% on this yet tho as im starting my claim next week

£60 (ish) Income Support for yourself -just gone up, then Tax Credits for any children - Child Benefit is no longer deducted from I.S. - don't forget you will be entitled to your £500 Sure Start Maternity Grant

Child benefit isn't deducted from income support, everybody gets the same amount of CB (£20 a week) You should be entitled to around £60 a week of Income support and £60 a week child tax credits x

thanks for your replies :)
