Introduce your VIP (Very Important Preemie!)

Welcome BigDaddy!!! She is gorgeous!

Just thought I'd introduce my little girls. They were born at 32wk1d on Dec 20, 2011 via emergency c section due to pre-eclampsia and HELLP. Cassandra Elizabeth - 3lbs 1 oz and 15" and Heather Marie - 2lbs 12oz and 15". They are now 2wks3d old and doing well. Still in NICU but the lid has been raised on their giraffes so they are pretty close to regulating their own temperature. Still on a whiff of oxygen and now starting to bottle feed. Last night's weights were 3lb 10oz for Cassandra and 3lbs 8oz for Heather. Pictures are from new year's day. Heather has the ladybugs and Cassandra the stripes

She was born early due to incompetent cervix. Delivered by semi emergency section...my cervix was already 5cm dilated and she was in transverse position.

Her first 24 hours went great. Early hours christmas day she started fitting and had to be resucitated. She had suffered grade 3 bleed on both sides of her brain. We were called up to the hospital and told to expect the worst.

She is still here though and 2 weeks old. Been on CPAP for a couple of days and is almost up to full milk feeds. She opened her eyes yesterday :cloud9:

Been reading some of your stories... gives me some hope. The days can be hard even when she is doing well.

Welcome Connie! she's really cute, bless her.

how much did she weigh Amy? SCBU can be very overwhelming, daunting and reassuring all at the same time. may she continue to grow stronger every day. :cloud9: xx

heyy AP :) Hows your girlies??

Donna she was 1lb 14oz. She gets weighed again tomorro and tbh im looking forward to it. I think she'll have gained :) She's got clothes on now. No more constant skin temp monitoring. No more long line. Just a cannula and her saturation monitor :) the pressures on the cpap have been lowered to 5 today and shes on full milk feed. She's looking different too. didn't think i'd notice with seeing her everyday but deffo seeing change in her.

Welcome to the world Cassandra, Heather and Connie. We do seem to have the most gorgeous babies in this wee corner of the forum. Lovely to hear they are all doing well. I hope the mums (and dads) are looking after themselves too. xxx

Your birth story sounds v similar to mine. I know the nicu can be a rollercoaster ride and I don't think anyone can fully understand this unless they have been in the same position. My little girl was born at 26 plus 4 in September and we have her home now and she is doing very well. That is brilliant that she is just on cpap and feeding well. Hopefully she'll be home with you soon! xox

After having 4 big healthy babies,I found out (at around 22 weeks!) that I was having another :) I have 1 girl and 3 boys,so was even more overjoyed that I was told I would be having another girl. I started to post on this website for name advice...little did I know that about 2 weeks later,my little girl, that I named Aurelia Helen Hope, would be born at just 24 weeks, weighing 700g(1lb 6oz).That was on 4 Dec 2011 and she is now just over a month old.She had PDA surgery at 15 days old and was able to be weaned of the ventilator after that and is on CPAP.This is also going well but she has a lot of secretions from having such small airways so they are limited as to how far they can reduce the CPAP help.Hopefully in a few weeks as she grows, her airways will widen and won`t get so obstructed by the secretions. She is tube fed 12ml milk every 2 hours and is tolerating it well. She had previously gained 7oz but in the last week, has put on 6oz and is now up to 996g or 2lb 3oz!!! I haven`t got to hold her yet but hopefully I will soon.It is such a frustrating, happy, emotional journey and somedays I don`t know what to feel or think...but we`re getting there. She is such a brave little fighter and when I feel low,I just think of what she has been through already and it makes me so proud.:flower:

Loving reading all your stories and seeing your photos.

My little girl Chloe was born on 9th January at 31 weeks after i went into spontaneous labour. She weighed 3lb 7oz and has breathed on her own right from the start. I love her to bits, but am finding it so hard not having her here at home with me.

Thomas & Alfie were born 24/08/2011 @ 27 + 5 my waters broke at 25 weeks and the early birth was due to the start of twin to twin syndrome
