Introduce your VIP (Very Important Preemie!)

Hey everyone, our son was born at 25 4/7 weeks weighing 2lbs 5oz. My water broke 3 days before I went into active labor and those 3 days were the most anxious days iv ever experienced. Luckily he stayed in long enough for me to get the steroids. When he was born he obtained bilateral pneumothoraces and had chest tubes for the first two weeks of his life which led to me being unable to hold him until he was 2 weeks old exactly. That day was one I will never forget as long as I live. He had major birth depression because his ETT blocked when they inserted it and he required 8 minutes of chest compressions. The neonatologists told us the risk of him having a major IVH was major. However, our little miracle baby came through every obstacle put in his way and beat the odds in every way possible. He had a pda which closed on its own and never had any IVH. He spent 114 days in hospital, mainly because he had BPD and required a small amount of oxygen and we were reluctant to take him home on O2. The day after his expected due date he quit the oxygen cold turkey and we were home a week later. He is now 3 weeks corrected and weighs a whopping 10lbs 5oz and is doing fabulous. Microprems are absolute miracles!! They make you realize how much you took for grantid before and really put everything life has thrown at you thus far into perspective. He is my little miracle baby :)

Wow Nelly, 2lbs 5 oz is a chunker at that gestation! Keira was 3lbs even at 29 + 2 gestation. Congrats on getting him home!

I have two preemies...well one former.

Caydence was born March 8th, 2005 at 35 weeks. She was 4lbs 10oz 17". IUGR baby.

Makaiyah was born March 8th, 2012 at 33 weeks. She was 3lbs 8oz 16". IUGR baby.

Hi just wanted to pop in and say I had another early one. Caleb was a 36 +4 baby and esmae was born 36+5 on may 18th and a big 8lb 6 due to my diabetes.
She gave us a scare and went straight to intensive care where she was ventilated and sedated :-(. She spent a total of 11 day all together in hospital.
I am proud I am still expressing and she is doing amazingly xx

I had my twins yesterday at 29+5 via c-section. Tegan Elsa weighed 2lb 13oz and Britton Aisley weighed 2lb 15oz. They are almost 12 hours old at this point and both on 21% oxygen with CPAP. I haven't yet been able to touch them (I was on a bed, being transported from recovery to my room, so I wasn't able to scrub in and touch them.) but I am hoping to hold them soon.

Both girls:

Congratulations Shelby! They are beautiful. Hope you can hold them and they come home soon.

Ive never thought to put my two here as i wasnt sure whether theyd be classed as preemies.

Anyway theyre 19wks today but my identical girls Isla rose and Lilly summer were born at 36+2 on july 17th @12.20 & 12.21 via c se ction. Weighing 4lb6 & 4lb1. They needed no special care and came home two days later. They are gettin very big very fast and have just started weaning due to reflux.
Our first 13/14 wks were hard as they both suffered colic reflux and are lactose intolerant. They adore their big bro finn and are starting to interact with each now.
Ill post some then n now pics when i put them to bed.

Remi Archer was born at 33+5 on 21/11/12 at 3:46am after a quick induced labour (only got as far as cervidil) due to Preeclampsia. He was born breathing and crying like a trooper. 1.97kg (4lbs 3oz), 45cm and so incredibly adorable with a 2.5 week stay in the special care nursery. He had Jaundice and needed to be under the lights for 24hours. Was in the isolet crib for a week and tube fed for his nursery stay and now after 1 week since being home we are finally exclusively breastfeeding.

Here is my birth story if anyone is interested https://babyandbump.momtastic.com/b...duction-33-5-due-preeclampsia-long-story.html

So glad he's home and settled, love the last pic xx

Hi ladies :) Our little man Solomon was born 28+4 weeks 2lbs 3oz on 12-21-12. Was a fast onset of severe preeclampsia, he was born via emcs - I had to be put under general anesthesia. He is now on a highflow nasal cannula at room air, has a PDA that has decreased dramatically with medicine. Currently battling an infection and is on vancomycin and gentomycin. Is taking expressed BM via gavage wonderfully... Im blown away by my little fighter.

My baby girl's name is: Elena May.
She was born at 25 wks gestation on Aug 19, 2012 (after 3 long and frightening weeks of labor), weighing 1lb 14oz, and measured 13in long.
The nurses absolutely loved her while she was there (11wks total), and told me that the fight in her is what helped her do so well.
She was finally able to come home on Nov 4, 2012, and weighed 4lbs 12oz.
She is my pride and joy! She is also doing very well. She is developing right along and is currently 6months old, 10lbs 2oz, and 21inches long.
I call her my bright eyes baby because she has big beautiful brown eyes, and makes my world all the brighter. I love having her home!

Pic #1 First time that I got to hold her! (1week old)
Pic #2 She wouldn't let go of my hand when I had to leave...she looks so sad that it broke my heart.
Pic #3 She's home now. This is her Christmas picture.
Pic #4 The most recent pic. She's such an angel!

Hi Ladies! :hi: I thought I'd introduce myself and my twin girls. They were born at 35+5 on 2/22/13. Ava (baby A) weighed 4lbs 15oz and Emma (baby B) weighed 6lbs 3 oz. Emma was born not breathing and then once she was stable the tables turned and Ava started having breathing issues. I was not able to see them, touch them for the first 24 hours because I had developed Preeclampsia and the Mag made it so that I couldn't do a thing for my girls. That was the worst 24 hours of my life.Anyways, we were in the NICU until 2/27. Last night was our first night at home and hubby and I were a nervous wreck trying to sleep and not worry about breathing issues with both girls. Will that fade?

I look forward to getting to know you ladies and hearing about your little miracles! :hugs:

Hello ladies!

Here is our small surprise, born at 27 weeks. He had severe developmental delay; specialists believe the placenta didn`t form properly so the baby wasn`t receiving enough bloodflow. By 25 weeks he was ten days behind. I was hospitalized at that point for high blood pressure, hoping complete bed rest would help. But by 27 weeks the blood flow was still decreasing and he was barely gaining weight - at 570 grams (1lb4oz) he was in the bottom 2 percentile, the weight of a 23 weeker. Nightmares that I was starving my baby kept me up at night. But he was active, kicking often to remind his momma he was still going strong.

Doctors were pessimistic, giving him 25% survival odds - if he did survive, he would probably be severely handicapped. We were offered a termination, something they usually no longer offer after 24 weeks... after much soul searching DH and I decided to give him a chance at life. So the doctors decided to deliver him before he showed signs of distress. He was born by c section on mother`s day, May 9th 2010.

As I`m sure you ladies understand this has been a very hard journey, an emotional rollercoaster. The first two weeks were hellish with many complications. But we`re trying to keep positive. Like... I`ve gotten to hold him already! And watch him develop outside the womb! (weird in itself) and... play in his cute reddish hair!

So I thought it would be nice to share his incredible development with you all. It`s crazy how quickly they change!

Hi Mums

I'm seeking comfort as my little fella Dylan Blake was born last Friday evening (exactly a week ago to the hour today!) He was 31+5 delivered by C section - after several hours of inducing drip.

Consequently he is now in SCBU on a ventilator and doesn't seem to be strong enough to come off and on to CPAC just yet. I'm up and down with emotion, frustration and heartbreak as the road seems so long ahead and with no certainty.

Any guidance or real stories and experiences to help me through this difficult time would be appreciated. I just want him home

Hi there-

I'm sorry you're going through this. I don't have any experience to share but wanted to send hugs :hugs:. Do you have a picture of little Dylan that you can post?

I'm currently 28w 2 days and have been in hospital on bed rest since my water broke 3 days ago. Going through this thread has been giving me many smiles and much hope! The babies are so sweet and beautiful~ and it's incredible to see the updated pics of some of the little ones (or not so little any more! ;-)

Connor Snake C. born April 17th at 5:11pm at 29 weeks and 3 days. He weighed in at a whopping 3 lbs and 7 oz!!!! All docs and nurses were surprised at how big he was. He further impressed everyone by letting out some good cries right after he was born, meaning his lungs were doing well. Our little overachiever also hasn't had to be put on a breathing tube yet but has been breathing room air (sometimes with a CPAP) since he was born.

Connor had his first feedings (breast milk via feeding tube) overnight and he is tolerating them very well so far!

We're still taking things hour by hour, day by day but are very encouraged by his first day and a half.

The first pic is one of my favorites- just after he came out. I feel like it captures so well the little fighter he is!

Hi girls, im new to the preemie board! My beautiful little boy Ashton was born on 22nd April 2013 at exactly 23 weeks gestation weighing 1lb 4oz. He's been very feisty from the start and we hope and pray it continues.

He is ventilated but doing alot of breathing himself. He's now 4 days old and his main issues are low blood pressure, twice yesterday they tried to get a picc line in but it didnt work so im crossing my fingers for 3rd time lucky. He's had 2 blood transfusions and some clotting meds.

Im so proud of how bravely he's fighting. I miss him so much while he's in the nicu but I know its the best place for him xx

His pic is him nearly 2 days old x

Hi pink- I've been wondering how you all were getting along. Congratulations!!!!Nice job keeping him in there for so long after the challenges you had. Both of you are fighters, and he's almost at 24 weeks now! Even under the hospital gear, I can see how cute he is!! Sending prayers to you and your family!

I know what you mean- I miss my boy very much when I have to leave him in NICU. He's doing really well, they take amazing care of him and are very responsive to the dozen questions we have each day...it's really tough all the same. My doc told us that the first week is usually the hardest- and you're more than half way through it now.

Sending you hugs!:hugs:

Gorgeous photo of Ashton.

Holly was on medication for her blood pressure too. Can't remember how long for but it was def over a week as I remember them transferring it from the lines in her umbilical cord to a long line. I hope third time lucky for your little man.

The first few weeks are def the hardest but then you get into a bit of a routine and it becomes a weird norm for you. Xx
