Introduce your VIP (Very Important Preemie!)

Truely amazing littles babies, you must all be so proud.

My god daughter was born 6 weeks early, weighing just over 5Ibs, she was tiny. She spent 3 weeks in SCBU and had to have annual checks at Gt Ormond St until she was 4. She is now your typical stroppy 7 year old Bratz fan lol. When Ellis was born he spent 2 days in SCBU. He was 2 wks late but had complications which were luckily only minor but the SCBU nurses were angels. I have nothing but admiration and thanks for their work and support.

C was 5 weeks early and elective C section due to IUGR suspected and they thought he'd be a 3lber. He was 4lb 5 and gorgeous. In SCBU for 48 hours then on a ward til I healed and he gained weight again.

Just gorgeous Elsielouise. Incidentally, I love your rug too!

Aww thank you. He's 18.5 lbs now so growing well despite his funny eating habits. He's currently lying in his cot smacking a plastic duck on the bars. Time to get up methinks!!

Oh and the rug was from Carpet Right I think... LOL

hi was only browsing and do not have a preemie, although been told by consultant it is likely i will have to have him early so was just looking at peoples stories with what to expect etc when i came across this lovely thread.! Their all so beautiful and strong. =] and well done mommies for also being very strong x

Bump.

I noticed some new arrivals to our wee corner. I'm sure we'd all love to see some more wee piccies.

HMMMM I think asking to make this a sticky is a fab idea (not that we'd let it tail off anyway) Ill ask Wobbles or Stir Crazy now xx

what a wonderful thread, it's so good to be around other people who have experienced having a preemie,i dont know anyone in 'real life', so to speak, who has a preemie.

i'd like to introduce Sam to you all. Samuel Timothy was delivered by emergency c-section on august 3rd, he was 30+5, and was a fab 3lbs 4oz. i'd been in hospital since the beginning of July due to severe pre-eclampsia. after Sam was born, some of the staff comment that they were really suprised we lasted that long before he needed to be delivered. anyway, Sam was amazing, aside from an infection when he was about a week old (which cleared up after 2 days), he had no other set backs. we spent 10 days in intensive care, then 1 day in high dependency, and then 4 weeks in special care.

he moved into a cot from his incubator when he was 4 weeks old. he came home aged 6 weeks and weighed 5lbs 7oz. he is 7lbs 13 now at 12 weeks (i keep getting his current age wrong, lol, since pregnancy i havent been able to count!). he rolled over from his tummy to his back for the first time yesterday, we were so excited.

after lots of feeding issuse, sam went from tube feeding to bottle feed, mainly formula as i was barely making any milk at all (for the first month i was getting less than10mls every few hours, and by 6 weeks i was getting about 30mls each 3-4 hours). about 2 weeks ago i just stopped the bottles and formula (with agreement from the healthvisitor!!) so that he would force my milk supply to increase. it was a bit of a crazy few days but i am now fully breastfeeding him which feels like a huge achievement for us both!

Andrew was born early evening and I didn't get to see him until the next day!

For those of you who haven't read my thread, Andrew was born at 29+1wk by emergency c/s following problems with the uterine bloodflow. Having IUGR, he weighed just 1lb 6oz at birth, the second smallest seen by our NICU. He's progressed through Intensive Care and High Dependency, and is now in the Nursery weighing 4lb 8oz.

He is now supporting himself in air and maintaining his temperature, we just have the feeding to crack - obviously the unit's 4hr schedule doesn't suit him, as sometimes he won't feed as he's not hungry. ROP checks came back clear, and at the moment we know of nothing wrong with him; however, a pre-birth bleed in the brain may have caused some damage, we won't know until we see whether his development is affected.

His original due date was next Tuesday (3 November) - and on that day we will be attending a discharge planning meeting, in anticipation of him coming home!
