as I said there is a boy in my sons new class with the name, I have also heard of it before yesterday as well so no not a name that's stupid/made up and would warrant bullying
Absolutely. No reason whatsoever that a name that frequently appears on lists to the effect of "Stupidest Celebrity Baby Names Ever" should be considered stupid or warrant teasing or bullying:

Anyhow, I've said my peace. Best of luck to the OP and to little Kal-el as he makes his journey to our troubled world. I suggest investing in some good martial arts classes, because this Kal-el won't be getting any special powers from our planet's yellow sun!

what is your problem???

your an increadbly rude and nasty person, she had already said she had decide and was no longer looking for opinions when you waded in with an opinion (that strangely contradicts everyone elses) and there are many spellings of the name as pointed out before which are in general more common

such as:

Khalil
Khalel
Callel
Calil

the name is actually Arabic and means honorable comrade (long before being used with the superhero spelling) learn some cultural history or read something other than gossip columns before posting

OP even said she would probably use one of the more common spellings

Everyone needs to relax. There are so many posts that people generally read the original and then give their opinion. They may not necessarily read after someone makes their decision.

An opinion was asked for. Yes it wasn't what the author wanted to hear.

Free speech right? Especially when asked for.

No feelings were intended to be hurt I am sure. I think anyone who lashes out naming someone as horrible or nasty or rude, is guilty for being a mean person too. We shouldn't lash out just because someone else has an opinion.

Just remove yourself from the posting if this is bothersome to you.

In the end the name is chosen. At least its not Apple.

I'm all for free speech, and saying that you don't like a name- or even that you HATE a name. I'm sure there are PLENTY of people who hate my daughter's name!

But that above is just rude. To actually take the time to give 7 links just to prove your point? No wonder there is teasing and bullying when people feel the need to be rude like this just to get your point across.

We get it. You don't like the name. You said that in your original post. No need to come back and do that!

I think we just need to kill this post. There has been a difference of opinion. People are attacking and that's not what this forum is for....funny enough its for open discussions.

I'm not sure i can support the bullying comment, but thats a different discussion that has nothing to do with our post creators questions.

Our post creator has made her decision and is happy with it. Or at least was.

You're right. This forum is for open discussions, not attacking. I'm out!

the point is she kept posting an opinion long after the OP had said she had made a discussion and it was no longer up for opinions, she then continued to offend the OP

and despite posting gossip links she posted nothing of actual substance on the name, in Italy a girl called Andrea is a shocker and not allowed by law, but it doesn't make the name stupid... just makes Italy look uncultured to the fact that its a common girls name, well same thing here - someone saw a film and assumed a name that's exists for hundreds of years is made up and could back it up with nothing but the ramblings of other uncultured people in blogs

as long as the OP hasnt been swayed from what she loves by the attack of one crazy person then everything's fine

your an increadbly rude and nasty person
That is your opinion and you are entitled to it (see how that works?). Maybe on planet Krypton, it really is considered "increadbly rude and nasty" to give an opinion when asked for it, and it's not considered rude and nasty to call someone a "crazy person" just for expressing a different opinion. That's not what I've been taught here on Earth though.

BTW, if you really dislike reading my posts, the ignore function works great.

This has got to be the most inane complaint I have ever heard on a message board. The thread was less than a day old and still open. There is no message board etiquette that says people have to stop posting on a thread once an OP decides s/he's heard enough responses. Someone else may do a search for the thread someday and actually want to hear all opinions on the name. They may find it useful to know that it's one of the most mocked baby names in Hollywood.

Yes, God forbid anyone disagree with the thundering herd of independent thinkers here at BnB.

I read or speak four languages other than English (Latin, classical & Koine Greek, biblical Hebrew, modern Hebrew) and am about to finish master's degree in history. "Kal-el" may sound like the Arabic "Khalil," but any polyglot could tell you that cognate ≠ the same meaning.

If the OP wants to use the Arabic "Khalil," then more power to her. But "Kal-el" (which is what the OP asked about) will be mocked.

So, one of you is attacking me for being the only person here to hold this opinion, and the other is attacking me for taking an entire 2 minutes out of my life to Google up some links and show that my opinion of the name is actually the prevailing one. Make up your minds.

as I said my son is starting school with a boy called Kal-el - he doesn't get bullied and every commented it was a great name

and yes once OP no longer wanted opinions it was rude and nasty to comment on a name she had decided on, would you be that person that think every ones choice is up for there opinion, it doesnt matter if she had asked in advance she NO LONGER wanted opinions :dohh: why cant you grasp how rude you've been

she said at the beginning about changing the spelling from Kal-el - if thats all your argument is based on then learn to read

your talking out your a** about bullying but you obviously know sooo much because you have never met someone with that name and read a few blogs so you must know how people with that name are treated

as I said my son is starting school with a boy called Kal-el - he doesn't get bullied and every commented it was a great name
Yes. I'm sure you spend 24-7 of your time with little Kal-el insuring that he doesn't get bullied over his stupid-ass name.

If you think I've been rude, report my posts and let the moderators do their job. Like I said, I've said my peace.

once again showing your true colors (bet you where/are the bully)

I mean who says that about a little child???

it must be sad to be that bitter to strangers

(bet you where/are the bully)
"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

Lots of people comment on the dumb names of children when the children are not around. There are even some threads here at BnB about it. It's a commentary on their parents, not on the children. I've never told either a parent or a child that a name was terrible unless the parent asked me for an opinion. I admit to commiserating with some children when they complained about their awful names that they hated, though if their names are even remotely normal, I try to cheer them up on it.
