is/was your LO a really bad sleeper? support and advise thread!

So glad it helped angel!!!

I've had Alex in sleeping bags since 4 weeks as he hated being swaddled. If your worried about them rolling try getting a longer sleeping bag and tucking the end under the bottom on the mattress :)

Most of the time he's just moving around his cot babbling away and trying to play. Last night he did get a bit grizzly and by 5.45 I gave up and got in the spare bed and gave him a bit of booby! He woke then at 7 for a bottle then was up for the day. By no means anywhere near the worst night but do annoying while I'm trying to iron these kinks out when I know he's capable of much better and longer sleep.
My OH wants me to keep Jim up later tonight to see if it makes a difference to his wakinhs, but I really don't think it will?

Slightly worried about how tonight is going to go. LO has napped for a total of 50 minutes all day  No matter what I tried he a) wouldn't stay asleep and b) wouldn't then fall asleep for an extra nap after the terrible first 2. Now naps don't make a huge difference to his night sleep unless they are particularly bad, so today qualifies I think!

Last night was surprisingly good - bed at 7pm, awake for a feed at 10, 1 and 4.30  Up for the day at 6.30 which is too early for him really but he wouldn't go back to sleep. Unfortunately I couldn't get back to sleep after getting up at 4.30 so had just dropped off again about 10 minutes before he woke for the day :dohh: HOW is it possible to be this tired and yet unable to sleep?!

Im the same firefly -I think that we get so used to the sleep deprivation and doong what we can to stay alert and awake that when we finally get the opportunity to sleep, we can't switch off

^^^ this was us yesterday and I was dreading last nights sleep, but it wasn't too bad all things considered, apart from the early waking of 5.45am!:wacko:
She has had more sleep today but seems to be really in pain with the teething,so we shall see what joys it brings to tonights sleep :haha:

I hope everyone elses nights go/are going ok!
:hugs:

Oh dear, the first wake up has happened 2 hours after going to bed and now an hour and counting of refusing to go back to sleep. This always happens after really poor naps. I'm convinced that it's because his body thinks the first part of the sleep is a nap so he wakes after 1-2 hours and needs to go straight into night sleep because of how late it is but can't. We then get total refusal to settle and attempts to play even though he's so tired he can barely open his eyes

I see what you mean about the 1st part of sleep perhaps being taken as a nap...hadn't really thought about it like that.
Gosh, I hope it gets better for you and he goes off to sleep soon. xx:hugs:

^^ this! also I find that if I'm close to LO my sleep is very light, but if he's not around I sleep really deeply. also if I am on my own (when?? :haha:) I can switch off immediately, like when I fell asleep at the dentist waiting room :haha:

kosh I get that when it is my OH's night. Ok, on his nights the monitor is on his side of the bed and therefore a little further away but I can still hear it if I wanted to. But when it is my night and I could actually sleep for a stretch I very often do not.

Wanted to report that the boys are in sleeping bags for the first time since they were tiny and so far it is going ok. Not better than usual but not worse either. And golly do they look cute with their arms outflung :cloud9: It is my OH's night tonight but he has to go out early so I will have to wake at 8am at the latest  He better not thump my foot again tonight, that is all I am saying! :grr:

awww, yes, they look so cute in sleeping bags don't they? actually, they always look cute when they are sleeping :haha::winkwink:

kosh soo true! lol My OH and I always joke how we love them that tiny bit more when they are asleep hehe. ;)

Good morning ladies. :) How did it go?
I have a few good things to report. First, my OH didn't thump my foot last night so I got some blessed sleep!
Second: the boys slept well in their sleeping bags! OH had to soothe Dom at 11 by putting in the dummy and then again at midnight and then they slept till 4 when he fed them! There was no midnight feed! Can you believe it!? :D And ok then Seb woke at 6 but he went back to sleep with OH rocking him a little. But what do you think? :D

That's great news Angel! Hopefully it's the start of something good :winkwink:
my night started really well, she went down just after 7pm and slept really well until about 10.30pm when I went to bed. Then we had hourly wakings from about midnight until she was up for the day again at 5.45am:wacko: she literally woke up every hour to the exact minute - 44mins past the hour:dohh:
We have had one nap already, but only for a measly 25 mins!
what will today bring I wonder??!!
:flower:

Our thread seems to have been moved to the lounge area under baby and parenting.:growlmad:

Oh you poor thing! I know those hourly waking so well. I always thought a sleep cycle is 45 minutes but it seems it can be an hour. So basically she couldn't fall deeply asleep again with every cycle. I don't know why sometimes they can and sometimes they cannot. But I always looked for the fault in something we do as parents (accidental parenting  :grr:) but I now believe that this cannot be it. I really don't think I have done anything majorly different with Dom lately and yet he has been sleeping better on average. Still, I would love to know why this happens. :hugs:

Oh I didn't notice. That is a shame cause apart from those who have subscribed to it already, it will attract very little new ppl who might suffer too :(

That's what I thought! I never go into the lounge area:wacko:

I think their sleep cycles change slightly as they get older, but don't quote me on that!:haha:
it's odd as she managed such a long stretch (for her) of 3+ hours at the start of the night,so I know she can do it. Who knows what goes on in their little bodies of a night?? lol
I came to the conclusion quite some time ago that it was not linked to anything I did or didn't do as a parent as it is soooo random with no pattern.
Maybe we are never meant to really understand?:haha:

I laughed at this as it is sooo true! of course we love them all the time,but..... ........it's lovely when they are so peaceful:baby:

Sadly, as suspected, my night was awful. Up every 2 hours at best after the initial wake up and up for the day at 6.30 again. Yawn. The good news is that he seems to be over his illness now and his morning nap was over an hour so today is shaping up to be much better!

Also really annoyed this thread has been moved :growlmad: How is it that there can be a sleepless nights thread as a sticky in baby club but we get relegated to the bit no one ever visits??
