IVF Advice

Oh it sure is. I just want to rephrase what I put above ^ ^ ^ I ment so phrase it as, I would only do IVF to get pregnant the once but it kid of sounded like I would only want one more child, truth is I would have my house full of children .

I think someone on here said - count on delays, etc when it comes to IVF.

My insurance just declined my IVF pre-authorization stating the AMH test is experimental and does not count as medical evidence to pursue IVF.

I guess the good news is they will pay 100% of the IVF but I have to do 3 more IUI's with injectables first.

I would have been fine with that a month ago but after the doctor got me all freaked that I needed to go to IVF so soon - I don't want to wait another 4 months to do IVF.

And will doing 3 months of injectables that creates more eggs, etc - deplete my small supply so I have less when IVF comes?

Oh man do I need some wine now!!!

Hockey -- I'd read somewhere that doing fertility procedures that cause more follies to mature doesn't actually deplete your reserves any faster. Usually only one gets big enough to ovulate and the rest die. So you're just making several bigger at the same time that wouldn't have made it to that size in the first place. I honestly don't remember where I saw that, but it certainly made me feel better! :hugs:

I'm on my third IUI and will be moving on to IVF for an egg retrieval/transfer in early december, should this cycle not work (don't have my hopes up due to only having 1 follicle and a screwup with the doctor's schedule... but anyway. I was just poking around trying to find some info on how far in advance you start meds before the egg retrieval starts and ran across this thread. I'd like to join you all and learn about this process with you! :friends:

Thanks SquirrelGirl - I like how that sounds and definitely makes sense. That makes me feel a little better.

Regarding IVF - for the short period that I was actually scheduled for the IVF, we started BCP's several weeks before I would have started the meds. My impression was you could not do an IUI one month and IVF the next - that there was some period of transition and prep in between though it sounds like it varies by clinic based on the different posts I have read on here.

Good luck!! Sounds like early December would be a good goal and maybe you could have a nice :bfp: as a Christmas present!!

Glad I found this thread ladies as hubby and I are starting ivf next month.

Anyone joining me? :)

I'm in the TWW after IUI right now, but after that I'll be starting the IVF process.

Lizlemon a huge congratulations on you BFP, I like your advice about being relaxed. How long did you take to feel ready to try your second attempt? I am on a high protein, blood sugar balancing diet as advised by a nutritionalist I am seeing which includes loads of antioxidants and fish oil (yuck!!!). The idea being that I am doing everything to improve the quality of the eggs I have left, even if I can't control the quantity.

I found controlling food like you are was v helpful as I felt I was doing something. Hemp seeds are really good too as full of omegas. Our first cycle was in march, second started end of July. This was to be timed to coincide with my school holidays as I'm a teacher - would have been ready to start again in the June but I think it would have taken much much longer to do a third cycle.... :dust: and hope the bfp roll in for all of you ladies xxxx

Hi ladies.

I got my bfp on our first round of ICSI (had 2 embies but back) and my advice would be acupunture. I had it while ttc naturally but also straight before and after ET. Find one who specialises in fertility (pref Zita West registered) and I promise it doesn't hurt a bit! Also I had the whole 2ww off work to rest. Some people say they'd go stir crazy but Gavin and Stacey on repeat got me through!

Lots of luck
xx

Day 28 here and no Af, come on and hurry up so we can get started with this Ivf....

I have been having acupuncture for about 5 months and i love it, very relaxing and it has really helped with my stress levels

hi just enjoyed reading all your notes, very helpfull thanks. After 2 years of ttc post vas reversal we are now going to try ivf appointment in november so starting to get excited/nervous now.NHS doesn't help because DH has children and insurance doesn't cover so we have the added pressure of the expense and everything I read says you need to be relaxed ??? I know it shouldn't come down to money but even before we start we are having the conversation about how many tries can we afford.Cheeky question do any of the rest of you have to pay for your ivf ?
Those that have already had ivf can you give me an idea what the time was from 1st appointment to tww ?

Hi waitingmids, we are not NHS as I have a son from previous relationship, so we are sharing my eggs and get the treatment free. Havent started yet.

Hi Waitingmids, ours will be approx £4k, not sure how long til TWW but i hear maybe 6 weeks? i've no clue really, im seeing FS on 5th next week to discuss, will let you know

hi Greenfingers, im doing acupunture too, yes, i find it really relaxing, not so much at the beginning when she puts the needles in my foot, those ones HURT, ouch!!

Squirrelgirl, im right with you, IUI then IVF hopefully.

Hi Hockey24, how are you? hope you are doing well.

To answer a few questions:

Probably takes around 6 weeks of DR'ing and then stimulation drugs before you get into your 2ww.

I paid one private January 2011, then had one go with NHS June 2011 and now we're about to pay private again January 2012.

Definitely things change as you go to each appt, be open minded as anything can happen ie maybe your linings not thin enough to start stimulation (happened with me).

I always feel good and positive when doing the actual treatment, it's about a week after ET that I go loopy each time, crying and just wanting to know if it's worked or not. Next time I think I'll have a holiday when it's testing time, that way I don't have to worry about going into work or not.

Best of luck everyone.

Hey mrs C P - all good here. Just playing the waiting game. When did you IUI this month?

We went for injection lessons this week and when AF comes next week, we'll start the daily dosage for IUI in October.

Since I have not used injectables before, I'm very curious to how my body will react and how many follicles it will produce. This will be good information for future IVF!

Greenfingers - acupuncture? I've been thinking about going this route as well. Figure it can't hurt. My doctor doesn't think much of it and told me - if it relaxes you, go for it. Whatever you can do to relax! Keep us posted on your IVF journey! Let us know how your scan went!

My consultant actually really recommends acupuncture, she said its one thing with a lot of proven results!

So my scan was clear and i start 375 iu of menopur tomorrow which will be cd2. I have been given a pen to inject into my leg, think i will do it in the morning so i will let you know how it goes x

Hey Mrs C P -

Just did my HIV and hep bloods today.

Right now I am on BCP's until October 9th. I have a trip planned so they have me taking the pills until the day we come back so I'm hoping CD 1 will be within the next few days. So we may be going through this at exactly the same time or at least within a day or two.

I'm excited and scared out of my mind at the same time!

I do hope that your IUI takes this month so you don't have to join me on the IVF journey but if not - let's compare notes as we go through the process! :friends:

Baby dust to you for a successful IUI!! :dust::dust:

hey there! i am going through my first IVF cycle as well and they have me on BCP's until October 11th! We are so close in this cycle together! :happydance: how exciting for you! they will have me on follistim and menopur and then either hcG or lupron depending on if i have OHSS! best of luck to you dear! :dust:

Awwww I just read this and saw that they delayed your cycle  I'm sorry hun! :hugs: My insurance did the same thing to me. I had done 2 IUI cycles with no results so when my doctor suggested that it was time for IVF, the insurance said we had to do an IUI with injectables. So we did that IUI cycle and it was unsuccessful so here I am starting IVF that the insurance company FINALLY approved! Keep hope and just think of these IUI's with injectables as preparing you for IVF and who knows, maybe these IUI's will work and you will have a :bfp:!!! Best of luck to you sweetie! If you have any questions feel free to ask me as I had to go through it before! :dust:

Thanks PetLuvR! My clinic says we'll just keep trying to approve IVF each month and see what happens - all they can do is say no and we're no worse off. After 3, they have to pay!

Good luck this month!! Please keep us posted on your progress!!
