IVF Advice

Thanks PetLuvR! My clinic says we'll just keep trying to approve IVF each month and see what happens - all they can do is say no and we're no worse off. After 3, they have to pay!

Good luck this month!! Please keep us posted on your progress!!

:dust::dust::dust:

Wow! So after 3 failed attempts they have to pay?! That's cool! I am thinking about you dear and know that you will have that little miracle soon! :dust:

hi thanks for all your info it all helps. So from start it could be 6 weeks sooo quick scarey.we are going to the open evening this week at Notts care to get more info on the ivf then have our first meeting with scans etc in november so a bit behind the rest of you.Good luck

I think it really depends on your protocol, I am on the short protocol with no down reg as I have diminished ovarian reserve and am expected to be a poor performer. For me I start injections on day 2 of a normal cycle and will have the egg collection around day 14 of the cycle, so no longer than a normal cycle before I go into the TWW.

So today is day 4 of the injections (cd5) and so far so good, the injections are not too bad at all, not painful and the pen injector is very easy to use and much less scary than a straight forward injection. I feel quite tired, have a headache and sore tummy but considering what I am doing to my body it's really not too bad.

I have my first scan tomorrow so we will see how I am responding, given my DOR I am nervous but trying to remain hopeful.

Goodluck with your first scan hope all goes well for you

Greenfingers - let us know how many follies tomorrow!

Good luck!!!

oooh, I like the idea of the short protocol. I wonder why they don't do that more often??

SquirrelGirl - I think it is for poor performers generally so don't wish yourself in that catergory!! Not that I really understand it all....

So today I had my scan, so far so good, first hurdle down, I was concerned about having the cycle cancelled due to poor performance but they are happy with everything. I have 8 follicles so far, 2 are around 12mm but 2 are very small on my left ovary.

I realise this is on the low side in terms of numbers but given my DOR I am pleased!

I have to start Cetrotide today, injected into my stomach, the nurse helped me and I honestly didn't feel a thing. Right now my headache has cleared and I just have period like pains...all very manageable.

Next scan Friday...this week is really going to drag!!!

Yeah Greenefingers! I'm glad it went well this morning and you are progressing nicely!

I heard a great IVF success story this morning on the radio for a couple that had tried everything else for 5 years unsuccessfully. They are now 3 months pregnant.

So I think IVF is the ticket!

Hello, I have heard the term "down reg" quite a bit and I don't know what it means...a little help? :winkwink:

I'm not an expert as I didn't have to have it but I believe that you take a nasal spray (or similar) to effectively shut down your cycle and put it into a menopuase like state.

I think you do it from around day 21 but I am sure there are others that could clarify.

Thats exactly right

Down reg is just shortened for Down Regulation. I thought that they put you on BCP to replace your hormones so your body doesn't have to pump them out. I've never heard of the nasal spray thing. But my doctor hasn't talked to me about it yet, other than to say I can move on and do the transfer in December.... So, yeah, I guess I'm not much help. :haha:

hi greenfingers good luck for your next scan.Hope the headaches stay at bay ,I've read other girls mention higher protein diets help ???
I'm wondering as i have my 1st appointment early Nov. do they work over christmas or will that put off starting till January ? Have any of the rest of you used Care or even Care Nottingham ?

My clinic will be open every day. Because everything they do is so cycle day specific, I don't think they get any chance to be closed without messing up an entire month's worth of cycles....

Hmmmm I don't have any prescriptions for nasal spray but I am on BC which is kinda like the same thing I'm guessing

Yeah I think that's why they have me on BCP. They told me it was to "calm" my ovaries. Makes sense! Thanks!

Before my first cycle of IVF I scanned the web for the same answers you are looking for. You worry that you are not doing the right thing / taking too many or too little or the wrong vitamins! / not eating right / not drinking enough water etc. Then you worry that each med will affect you in a negative way or that ER or ET will hurt, etc. etc. The list goes on!
For me there was little / no side effects and no pain whatsoever! I think if you symptom spot obsessively you can almost create the symptoms themselves.
Its just wierd getting used to new habits, like the BCPS, stims etc. So like everyone else advises, for my next cycle (hopefully November) I am going to just try to relax as much as possible and try to enjoy the whole process rather that worry about every little detail. A massive good luck to you!

So had my Day 2 u/s this morning and FSH level tested and it came back really high at 14.9. Apparently 15 is the cutoff. Yikes! Last time it was 9.2.

So the doctor thinks I won't respond well to the injections. That's just what you want to hear before you start shooting yourself up every day!

So I'm starting at 300 iu/ml per day but not really hopefully of this working.

I keep getting these messages that my ovarian reserve is depleting but I sure wish the insurance company would pay attention to that!!

Well we went to the ivf open evening last night and all very informative def. Worth going if any of you are thinking about it . But sadly as I thought the surgery part is shut over Xmas so I think even if they have no waiting list after our consultation in November it means I still won't be able to start till next year : (
