Hello lovelies. I was just listening to the radio and this charity were talking about how they were setting up a lottery for people to win IVF. There is also info about the whole assisted fertility business in the UK. I hope this can help someone. https://to-hatch.co.uk/

On Women´s Hour, (UK radio show,) they said some people find the idea of winning IVF insulting, but lets face it everything about ttc seems like a lottery to me, at least this is clearly stated and you know the odds.

Baby dust all round!!

Hey Nat welcome back!

I saw something about this in the paper, well they have given away plastic surgery so this was the obvious(?) next step.

I don't really have a problem with this, at least it gives someone the chance of a positive outcome = baby, far better than one person winning an obscene amount of money, eg those Scottish people the other week wining £161M on the Eurolottery.

Interesting article

I agree TTC does seem to be a lottery and I don't find it insulting and good luck to the winners :)

And a baby is a more valuable prize than an obscene amount of money

I don't see any insult in it at all; but I hate to see TTC come to this!

It makes me sick that it's a business that preys on already desperate women.:growlmad:

Yes, that's true.

But, if I didn't have insurance coverage and no way of finding funds for it, I'd be willing to try. There is so much good that could be done from it.

I agree with you, lol. I just wish it were cheaper.

Cheaper, and easier, and more convenient, and less invasive, and not necessary at all. . .

My RE does IVF drawings here in the states. I think it's so nice of her! Every 6 months somebody gets free IVF at my doctor's. It's a true blessing for anyone who needs it and can't afford it.

I just saw this in the papers here...the IVF Clinics are trying to stop it though, and are encouraging couples to not buy a ticket. I didn't read the whole story...just skimmed through while waiting in line at the grocery store.

I bet they are!! Every person who wins is one less client for them. How greedy can you get! I can´t buy one coz I´m not in the UK any longer, but otherwise I would, even if only to do the opposite of what they say.

I've just been to the site and they're now displaying a message that the lottery has been postponed :nope:

With the news we've recently had, we have a very small, teeny chance of ever having our own child and it will have to be with assistance, the cost of fertility treatment is horrendous, so I would be very tempted to enter the lottery.

I am so sorry to hear that. I thought in the UK you were entitled to three cycles of IVF? Isn´t that true? A friend of mine in France has a period every six months or so and her husband has a really low sperm count, when they got pregnant the first time they were told it was a miracle, i just found out she is expecting her second now. Don´t give up hope yet Tigerlily everything crossed you don´t need the lottery after all.

Yep..I didn't read through it well but it basically said that the lottery was preying on couples emotional heartache by giving them hope when the chances would be very tiny they would win. There were other parts to the article I just can't remember it was a few weeks ago now. I would buy a ticket on the off chance I'd win :)

Ha ha what irony!! most clinics take all your money and with a tiny hope it will work!! At least this way you don´t pay for cycles that may not work. argh they are all saintly now but it is all bs, greedy so and sos.

Thank you :hugs:

The results have shown no sperm at all. We're waiting to see a specialist to try and fathom out what is the cause and if it can be fixed or whether we can retrieve any.

Under our local Trust we'll only get one NHS funded IVF or ICSI course - if we're fortunate enough to even get that far!

I'm finding it very difficult to be positive at the moment, I think it's my own way of trying to protect myself from building up my hopes when I know we really do have a very, very slim chance of having our own baby.

I wish you all the luck in the World and hope with all my heart that you get your sticky little bean very, very soon.

:hugs:
