January JellyBean mummies

OMG there is so much to catch up on... I think I'm just going to say "Hi" and "Hugs" to all that need it... I feel like I've been away for ages...

We had a bit of a manic and stressful first week and a half but we have finally settled into more of a routine now we have started to get to grips with the feeding.

I had a real nightmare with breastfeeding. She fed for the first 7 days constantly and wouldn't leave my boob, she was constantly rooting trying to improve my supply. The only time she would come off was when she passed out to sleep. The MW's assured me it was normal but at the 7 day appointment she'd lost more weight. (Only 30g but thats got to be loads when you are so little).

My supply, for whatever reason, just doesn't seem to be enough for her. Expressing brings very minimal amounts. I was constantly in tears about it. Which I know won't have helped the supply but I had no idea as to whether I was satisfying her or not and I was really determined to keep BFing.

After she lost weight again the MW talked to me about Combi FF/BFing. So now I am doing 15 mins on the breast followed by whatever she wants from the formula. The result is a completely different baby.

She has times of being awake without needing anything but a cuddle or a chat, which we never had before. She sleeps for 3/4 hours at a time and settles herself mostly rather than us having to trick her into sleep or her pass out on my boob exhausted from suckling. She does look a bit drugged after the formula but I think its just she is so pleased to have a full stomach! LOL
It also meant I slept for more than 2 hours! And I get to have my sanity back a little. After just a day of this she had put 70g on!

I'm still upset that the BFing hasn't worked out how I planned. I've found it so hard but I gave it everything I could. I just can't do it to the detriment of my little girl. I'm still working on my supply by feeding from the breast first but I'm sure this only will probably only make my supply dip even further until its gone. I'm trying to regularly express too to stimulate some more...

Anyone have any experience in Combi-feeding and whether I'm just facing a losing battle with continuing to part-BF?

Hope everyone is well...should be able to keep up better now Sofia is happier.
xx

I'm combi-feeding too cos she wasn't getting enough from me when we were in the hospital and she nearly lost too much weight to let us take her home so now I give her both breasts until she comes off them or they feel empty, then offer her the bottle if she starts rooting for more. Thankfully its not every feed that she needs the bottle but I'm hoping I can get my supply back up by letting her suckle more on the empty breasts before giving the bottle although she gets frustrated.

But at least she's gaining weight now, got her weighed today at 8 days and she's gained almost 200g, though still not back to her birth weight

Beccy have you called breast feeding support out to visit you at home? I was talking to a lady the other day who was having trouble with her supply and support people got her domperidone prescribed which increases supply and even got her a double breast pump to borrow. If it's important to you might be worth calling them. If doing both is working for you both tho that's also fine! Midwives dont always have time and resources to help you where support do x

:happydance: for a southern meet up. Am only in the UK 3.5 weeks though

where in the south?

I'm Beccy, 28 from Bristol.

Not sure...goes to look at google...well how bout outer London???
Reading is kinda halfway betweeb Bristol and Southampton but that means a long trip for Sarah. Guildford seems a good halfway point but I don't drive so not sure how the drive would be, I know getting to Canterbury involved lots a moterway changes! What does everyone else in the south think? xx

canterbury isnt far from me, not sure about other places though

Well according to google Deal-Guildford is just under 2 hours, and Southampton-Guildford is an hour and a half!!! I don't mind coming to Kent though... Jellybean was conceived there:blush::haha::haha:

guildford? is that any good to anyone else?

im sooo jelous. Come to Canada everyone!!!!!!! LOL

Southern meet up gals - I'll be in the UK (Southampton) from Feb 26-March 20th but the first week would be the best for us??? How does that work for everyone? I'm sure my DH would drop me off wherever.

Hi Ladies - Please can I join? Ollie was born on 25th Jan after a 4 day latent phase and being back to back with his hand over his face!! V proud of myself as only had G&A after I was fully dilated ( grrrrrr to a silly MW who wouldn't believe I was in established labour!! )

Ollie is just wonderful - we are breastfeeding but he managed to put on 2 1/2 oz in the 1st 10 days - he's so clever!!

My name is Helen, I am 33 ( ow!! ) and live in Cheshire with my OH, I am an analyst at a bank and OH is a telephony manager. I love art ( did my degree in art ) and hope to do more during my maternity leave with a view to selling some pieces ( need the extra cash!! ). Currently enjoying learning the ropes of motherhood, generally muddling through :)

Guildford is good for me as there are trains from Reading.
Jennifer is really stressing me out she is screanming for food but refusing to suck, bloody reflux or whatever it is. Just sterilising so i can express and try the gaviscon again....

Lisa how long has Holly been on 6-7oz and how often does she have that,i cant get Joe to have any more than 4oz, i tip so much milk down the sink, its a wonder how he is so big!
Who asked about toys? Joe not really interested in toys still and still hasnt rolled over! considering he is one of the oldest on here i'd of thought he would be doing things earlier, unless i have to go by his adjusted age

Hey hun Holly has been on 6-7oz about 2 weeks now. She's a little greedy guts though and it is a lot for her age! From what I've read it varies completely from baby to baby so dont worry that Joe isnt eating what he should be. Compared to some babies Holly is on the same as a 3 month old!!!

Holly likes looking at her toys and is seeing things really well now and laughing at us. She did roll over a couple of weeks ago but nothing since, so think it was a fluke! According to holly's doc she shld be holding things by 3-4 months, but only just.

:brat: Sooooooooooo not fair, i want to meet you all too! Come to the seaside and see meeeeeeeeee :brat:

Aw I really wanna meet up with everyone too! I wanna meet lil Joe!

So glad the combi is working out better for you both, don't forget happy mum = happy baby! And vice versa!

Hi Helen  and welcome!

Tomorrow it is Sarah, lol. The front page looks great :hugs:

put the kettle on, im on my way :plane:

How did you SA meet up go ladies???

Well did most of my packing yday! :happydance: am yet to weigh any of them yet though....eek! Holly is going a lot longer in between feeds at the moment - 6 to 7 hours! Not that she sleeps all that time though so dont you all think I'm getting that much sleep at once!

I posted in baby club but thought I'd also ask u ladies as theres a few of u who've had c section. I've started getting abdominal pain, like i've pulled a muscle or something, on my left hand side. Yday it just hurt when i pressed it but now can feel it all the time. Do you think its just part of the healing process, or maybe i've pulled something when packing? I'm just a bit concerned as I'm flying for 10 hours tomorrow so hope its nothing to worry about. :nope:

Hodbert I don't have any advice on your tummy but have a safe journey back to the uk!

Me and Izzie will wave as u drive past us on the m62 we are in Halifax :haha: x

Lisa - I had that last week. Felt like I did a full ab workout. It was horrible but it went away in a few days. Make sure when getting out of bed etc. To roll onto your side first then get up iykwim. Have a safe flight. Will you be logging in when in the UK?

Can I join in please? Elise Grace was born 18th January :) :flower:

 hello you! where have you been hiding? i thought you were already joined, nice to see you x

Ditto on that, thought you'd been here all along! Hi anyway!
