June & July 2020 Pearls & Rubies!

I had baby acne with my first, went away fine on its own and I wouldn’t use any creams!

we have a 6-8 hour stretch then every 2 hours it’s normally 10-4 or 6 then up at 6&8. She one went 10-8 and it was beautiful!

Nice to see babies sleeping longer stretches... I’m looking forward to that sleep. But I can’t complain much now as my hubby relieves me for one feeding with pumped milk so I get 4 -5 hours straight sleep which is sufficient for now.

glad to hear baby acne does go away on its own. Navya had it for 1 week now and it still seems to be getting worse each day. Quite hard to look at.. does it leave mark after or does it fully clear because I’m missing the baby soft skin.. @kittykat7210 how long did it take for your baby’s to clear?

I’d say a good month to be honest, I’ll have a look back on photos and see, they’re on my old phone so I’ll need to find it, charge it and look through

EDIT: it was 3 weeks

My 2nd baby had bad baby acne...it even went to her chest and back! There is nothing that can be done, it's due to hormones. It goes away as quickly as it comes on. And then that soft baby skin will be as clear as if it was never there! :cloud9:

We are getting tons of smiles during week 5!
On a more disappointing note however, we had a weight check today and he isn't gaining weight as he should. We are switching to pumping and bottle feeding for now to see if it's an issue with my supply or an issue with him transferring milk.

I'm so glad everyone is doing well and your babies are all so stinking cute!!

Ohhhh such gorgeous smile!!

I'm sorry he isn't gaining weight as expected. Is he latching properly? Do you feel he's hungry? Did you see a certified lactation counsler? I'm asking because I heard pumping is not a good measure for your supply and bottle feeding can mess with the latch, but I have no personal experience and no professional knowledge to offer, so feel free to dismiss my questions...

I hate to say it but this is terrible advice, you need to see a lactation consultant to access your latch not switch to bottles!

plus in the first few months babies find their percentiles! My cousins baby ‘wasn’t gaining properly’ but she’s just small, she kept on Breastfeeding and after dropping percentiles she stayed along one of the low ones and is still on that one now at 5! My cousin is now a health visitor because she wanted to inform mums that dropping percentiles isn’t always a problem (among other reasons of course)

Yes, we did see a certified lactation consultant, once in the hospital and once a few weeks pp. She said his latch seems good and he doesn't have any tongue tie or lip tie. The last few days he's been cluster feeding but in general he seems pretty content after eating. He eats for shorter amount of times more often which the pediatrician said could be causing him to burn a majority of the calories he is taking in, just as if an adult wanted to lose weight they would eat smaller meals more frequently.

Honestly I would say the majority of the decision to switch to bottles came from me, for my mental health. My first two both had growth issues for varying reasons and with the COVID numbers raising significantly in my area again I'm just not emotionally ready for a third baby with constant weight checks and pediatrician visits. We are still going through endocrinology visits with my 4 year old to find the underlying reasons for his slow growth velocity in terms of height.

My husband and I had a very serious and informed conversation based on facts and our history with our other two that if we go to the 1 month appointment and he was doing fine we would continue, but if they had any hesitations about his weight gain we would make the switch. He has only been gaining about 15 grams a day which dropped from 21 grams a day.

I think your mental health and just wellbeing is as important as feeding him well and it's good you are taking care of yourself! Plus you already have experience with growth issues so I really understand why you want another story to start now, especially with COVID around. Hope he will soon start to gain more weight and you won't have to worry about it with him.

A couple of days ago we went to the hip joint ultrasound and the doctor said Jahli is just on the border of normal with an angle of 58 degrees on the left hip. In the beginning she said it's fine and she only wants a follow up exam in a month, then she started saying we have to do double nappies and make sure she is in a frog position 24/7. It sounds a bit exaggerated to me only because of 2 degrees to torture her like that. We are looking for specialist to get a second opinion. Do you guys have any advice?

That’s absolutely fine, I understand why you have made that decision!

A second opinion wouldn't hurt for sure, that does sound a bit excessive for 2 degrees, but on the other hand maybe she wants to see if by doing that it will be corrected by the follow up visit.

What a cute smile. All the sleepless nights are all worth it when they smile back. I’m starting to see different expressions from Navya but no smile yet.

as for the weight gain, how often do you have weight checks? Is it at the doctors?

the last time Navya had a weight check was at 11 days and since then I’ve just been weighing her at home (holding her then without) on a regular scale, and it doesn’t look like she gained any more in the last 2 weeks. I’m not sure if the scale is off or if there’s an issue. I do have a phone checkup tomorrow with the doc, and I’ll mention it to her.

@zmzerbe, are you exclusively breastfeeding??

how was the hip issue first discovered? During a regular check up? Or did you notice something?? I agree, a second opinion is always a good idea. Most of these cases are normally resolved on its own. Hoping for the best for your baby too!!

Thank you! No we didn't see any issue and the physical examination was also good, it's a screening ultrasound that every newborn gets here in Switzerland. I also read it's usually spontaneously resolved so I'm going to do our best but not getting crazy yet and wait for the second ultrasound to see.

I exclusively breastfeed. Kaylin was last weighed at her 2 week and wont get weighed again until her 2 month. Havent weighed her once at home. As long as she has enough poops and pees, then I have no concerns!

All the babies are so precious and getting so big!

I ended up with my July baby after all (if barely). After 19 hours of labor baby Westley arrived this afternoon. Totally healthy, 7lbs7oz, and just over 20 inches. We're picking up breastfeeding and he's absolutely perfect. I'm in love and can barely put him down.

I have a second degree tear but otherwise am doing okay, just sore and exhausted. I've been up for about 36 hours at this point but I'm still nervous to go to sleep since the nursery is closed for covid concerns.
